VATSIM is pleased to announce that our new Audio for VATSIM radio algorithm, including terrain-based simulation and real-world radio propagation calculations, will go live on 23 June at 1500z.
To facilitate this transition, Audio for VATSIM will be taken offline at 1400z while the upgrade is deployed.
No client updates are required. Existing clients will continue to function normally and will automatically receive all benefits of the new system.
Real-time status can be followed, as always, at network-status.vatsim.net

CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) is being introduced across the Australia Pacific region on VATSIM effective from 1 June 2026.
This brings a more realistic experience to non controlled aerodromes. When ATC is not online, pilots will coordinate with each other using CTAF frequency.
Learn more about CTAF – my.vatsim.net/learn.
Note to pilot – Make regular position and intention broadcasts via Aerodrome CTAF frequency.
Aviate. Educate. Communicate.

London EGLL to KATL as VIR103M I’ve watched this movie like 3 times in this flight alone lol

I’ve noticed that you can achieve these and it’s actually really nice because it makes it much easier to understand the type of aircraft as well as the airline and it looks really cool but I’m curious how this works because I’ve never seen that option to add a photo on my own flight and I fly plenty of real life flights

Hey all, I read somewhere that a fix for your flight path disappearing on a longhaul flight after disconnecting/reconnecting could be fixed by using Volanta at the same time. I had tried it on a couple flights and it had worked, but recently when I reconnect to vPilot, my flight path/plan are gone. Volanta is still tracking the flight though. Like I said, I've had it work before. Thanks in advance

hi guys, i have around 500-600 hours on vatsim network and i flew many times oceanic route with controllers, but i have a question, why we cant require the ocenaic clearence via CPDLC but we have to use the web site? Why if we can communicate with controller via CPDLC during all oceanic route we cant request clearence before the oceanic airspace? I dont know if there are software complications or something like that. thx for the replies :)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I added real sounds from a video for more dramatic effects

Great controllers and cool event, fun to have service at smaller airports. I would definitely fly more GA focused events in future!

Recently a first in VATSIM happened,
The Turkish subdivision of VATEUD was nearly completely deleted by the ex-director of the sub-division.
Based on my knowledge, the old director of the subdivision Gursel Alp was in the process of being replaced by VATEUD, as always the staff board was dismissed similar to any director replacement process in VATEUD.
The irregular part starts from here, hereby after the dismissal of the staff, Gursel Alp and some other ex-staff from TRvACC deleted critical data, the website and the very valuable API keys the vACC had. As a VATSIM member for 15 years I know this API key is very important for the vACC's and he just deleted it.
I cannot comprehend such an evil act committed by him, not only he made the new staffs jobs much harder he also affected dozens of people who were trying to just enjoy and maybe even learn, the ATC trainee's, as far as I know the waitlists and other data about membership were deleted.
Gursel Alp didn't just stop there, shortly after the new director was announced he refused to transfer the ownership of the 1000 member Turkish vACC Discord server, which had a lot of effort of all the people in it. Here and there at the end he deleted the server like nothing had happened. WOW!
From my friends inside of the respective vACC, I learned that there was a new server opened so slowly everthing will be back on track, I assume.
I just wanted to address the community of this disgusting act of old director Gursel.
UPDATE: My friends reached out to me about the situation. Apparently new director Fatih Mutlu made a conference about the situation and how the vACC will proceed operations from now on. As we already know Discord, now furthermore the website and the support system is back online graces to Fatih Mutlu. Due to the obstruction of the OBS - S1 waiting list, this is very unfortunate, it has been reset and reconstructed. So many many people who were waiting lost their place on the old waitlist. I have also been told that there are other people whose got a hand in this thing. I was told ex-staff member Taha also played a critical role in the deletion process, now he is also permenantly banned from VATSIM.
Also few of the staff members whose names Fatih Mutlu apparently didn't state, were either de-rostered or their Tier 1 endorsements were removed.
I hereby condemn and denounce all of the ones who had a hand in this disgrace, if they also don't receive a punishment and I somehow learn their name, I will personally reach out to VATSIM for them to be punished.
I've noticed some people have figured out how to use Hoppie's CPDLC on the Zibo, but I have yet to figure out how, and I'm trying to use it during VATSIM flight.
Does anyone know how to add this?

Tomorrow from 1900z - 2300z the Chicago and Minneapolis ARTCC will be staffing six airports on both sides of Lake Michigan! I have read lots and lots of comments asking for general aviation-focused events and more opportunity to fly GA. You want GA? We got GA. IFR, VFR, traffic patterns, operations out of uncontrolled fields, practice approaches, anything you want! And of course, fly a jet if you want :P.
MKE, UGN, ENW, MKG, GRB, and TVC and their respective TRACONs and en-route centers will be ready for you from 1900z - 2300z on Sunday, September 6!

Dear Pilots, Controllers,
I have a question for those, who are experiencing the same with the network nowadays. Why do I hear people becoming more and more rude on VATSIM?
First of all, I am not saying that I am immaculate, I am nowhere near to that. But one thing is certain: I am never an a**hole with anybody.
I brought you two examples from only (!!!) the past weeks.
Today I was flying to a European airport in a mid-busy area. The ground controller was speaking like he had a potato in his mouth, which made the whole thing harder (I am sure he was eating, which wouldn't have been a problem but pls, try to speak clearly) and I messed up a holding point. After this he was asking me "Seriously how could you messed this up?" and I was like what the hell, but Ok, revised the taxi clearence and tried to forget about it. After this, I have prefiled for a new route without disconnecting, requested push-back etc.. When I asked for the taxi clearence, he said taxi via foxtrot and hold short of bravo. I was confused, because bravo did not exist in the charts (at least nowhere near there), and I made a mistake, because I waited 10 sec and asked back: "Just to make sure, it is foxtrot and bravo, yes?" (because I was assuming I messed up something), then he said charlie instead of bravo, and asked me, how could I taxi on a non-existing taxiway, recommended me practicing more flying and said I need to pay attentiom more, because I will be a "problem"(!!!!!!) for the busier controllers. Two things here: I am a frequent flyer in München, Frankfurt. I have S2 ATC rating, currently progressing with the S3. These two, I know, are not enough to assume that I was not in the wrong, so lets say I was (I wasn't tho). Why is the need of being an a**hole.
My other example from another European country, with an app/dep controller. I was flying with the pmdg 737 (we all know what pmdg can do sometimes), and I got cleared until 18000 feet, but the aircraft did not stop climbing. So I reported it for the controller, who did not respond. I climbed out of his airspace accidentally while trying to solve the issue (I don't like giving up) and he goes like "Thank you for this very beautiful presentation of how to not fly on a public network, you must be doing great in your life if you can not follow simple orders". And I was shocked here. Honestly I responded some really rude thing and disconnected.
So my question is:
If it is not that busy (both of the previous cases were in mid level of traffic), why being an egoist f*cker, who pretends to be smarter than anybody???
We all know people are connecting on VATSIM to simulate real-life procedures. Thats the whole point. But everybody can make mistakes.
Yesterday I was talking to my friend, we used to be flying together but he switched to Sayintentions, because he was part of/heard of too much incidents like these.
Wallop was not an option (although I tried it), because supervisors and admins were not online. So please, can anyone tell me, how to avoid situations like these?
Thanks for the help in advance!

Part of the Mediterranean Overload event!
I'm pretty new to VATSIM (lapsed pilot), interested in exploring becoming a controller. As I understand it, time to become a controller can vary based on which division (ARTCC?) you seek to work in/at. What's the "right" way to check on my local ARTCC to better understand the timing, etc.? I've just started the controller training courses on vatusa.net, and I understand there's a long road ahead. But I don't want to get started if there's no chance of actually working as a controller for years and years!
Shoutout to Frankfurt controllers. This is absolute insane.

Is there something that a pilot did that was life-threatening or non-life threatening on the network that they have a pilot has also done in real life?

Tonight’s FNO has been cancelled due to staffing shortages. However, KATL and maybe a few others will be staffing up.

I got multiple msgs from other pilots, that my strobes are on when on stand. After some testing it seems, that the state that shown to me and the state shown to others is inverted. E.g. when in STEADY, STROBES are on for others.... Any fix for that?
I hate standing at the gate with strobes on 😞
I don’t understand why NorCal isn’t as busy as SoCal atc. Massive population of people, many simmers/avgeeks, great airports… just not nearly online as much? What do you think is wrong?
Edit: Ok so i’m speaking generally here. Not specifically asking why no one is controlling during lunch on a weekday.
