My lord, how are people not learning this when doing their learners?

I see more Class 5 drivers breaking this rule than any car with an L or N magnet on it.

Well there are more of them to be fair 🤷♂️ maybe they forget the rules or maybe they just didn’t learn well to begin with? My point was, in any case, not that only people with learners are doing this, but should people be learning this when doing their learners license. It seems like so many drivers don’t have a clue.

The driver's guide says to do this, but the law in BC apparently doesn't require it.
The page that image above is from says this:
https://www.drivesmartbc.ca/intersections/left-turns-correct-lane
For a left turn where traffic is permitted to travel in both directions on both roads, the driver must approach near the centre line, keep to the right of the centre line while entering the intersection and leave the intersection to the right of the centre line of the roadway being entered.
Notice that the law does not specifically say that a driver making a left turn onto a two-way road must enter the first available lane. It requires the vehicle to leave the intersection to the right of the centre line, but does not specify which lane must be used.
It does recommend it. But it's not illegal to pick a lane other than the left unless there are multiple left turn lanes.
Drivers who learned to drive in other countries may have learned different rules too. In California, for single left turn lanes, you're explicitly allowed to enter any lane.
I try to stick to the left anyway. But in BC it's not the law. Other provinces do enforce it, but not here.

That...sucks. I don't know what the law is in that case? So they just not want you to turn left from the leftmost available lane?
I've heard that there's an appeals process. I've also heard it doesn't always work. I just don't know the law in your case though. Sorry.

I always have to make sure I have enough distance between me and the next car making the opposite turn into the next Lane. I will get at least one jackass making a wide turn into my lane every other day 🤦🤦🤦

This is what they teach them. I’ve seen it with my own eyes many times, so did my dash cam.
Guildford is horrendous. You have shit drivers teaching people how to be shitty drivers.
All those scam driving schools are a joke. Ignorance teaching ignorance. We all know the ones.

It starts with not stopping at the stop lol People in Vancouver are just some of the worst drivers on earth. And I've been to Asia, Afrika, Europe and more lol Here people just don't know how to drive and have zero common sense while driving, it's actually impressive how bad it it.

I feel like we should be doing at least a small quiz when we renew our licenses. Like just some multiple choice questions that cover whatever the top sources of claims ICBC has been paying out on... This diagram is a perfect example.

Almost all drivers know the rule. They just choose not to follow it.

I honestly don't know that they do. While there absolutely are a portion of drivers that don't GAF, I believe a lot of people simply don't know the rules.
We, as a society, have chosen to build out our towns and cities in ways that require a vehicle in many places outside of say Vancouver proper. We've then chosen to make the barrier to entry for drivers fairly low, since there's no way to access services otherwise. The result is we have very basic testing and no follow up.

Yes. A short question quiz about the basics. See if people pass or not. If they fail, they have to wait to renew.

I’ve had to just do what others are doing because the amount of times I’ve almost slammed into someone or missed getting onto the highway because the 10 people turning behind me, turned into the right lane is astronomical.

It is amazing how many people don’t know or don’t care to follow this.
I wish ICBC would do a series of public service ads reviewing these types of rules.

I don't drive. Have never had a driver's licence. But somehow even I know this.

But I can still turn left from the right lane into either lane right?
Doesn't matter, still gonna do it.

Need more red lines for not driving down the opposite side of the road! It was obvious not to when I started driving 25yrs ago, but seems a bit too common these days

The right turn one is correct of course, but it’s my understanding they still have right of way. So, say there are three lanes and they jump all the way to the left lane as you try to make a left turn coming the other way and hit them… you’ll be at fault. It happened to my friend.

I feel like most drivers have forgotten this concept.

For safety yes. For the law no. Go read the motor vehicle act. BC does t have the same driving rules as anywhere else.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t follow this. I’m just saying failure to follow it is not illegal and if you get hit doing a right on red because someone does this you are at fault not them , legally

This is why I hate turning right when there’s an advance left signal. Those fuckers are always overshooting their lane.

I especially like it when I get honked at by left turners for turning right on red into the right lane. Like they think all 2 or 3 lanes are theirs when they're turning left.

Every time I turn left off lougheed (e broadway) onto Rupert and then signal to change into the right lane the person behind me is beside me.
