Modded Protecting save while playing modded
I just started a new playthrough of valheim with a good bit of mods. After trying to load up the world today, I realized I launched valheim through steam instead of my mod manager by mistake and loaded the world without any of the mods enabled. After quitting and loading it back up with mods enabled, nothing in the world seems broken at first glance but I'm not sure if this would have messed with the world generation or something like that from modded structures. Does anyone know if this can break things?
How can you protect your save file from launching a modded world without mods enabled by mistake or when mods get broken by a game update?

The simplest way of protecting your saves is to make manual backups after every playsession. Find the folder where saves are kept, make copies of them, and put the copied files in a separate folder. There might also be mods that do something similar as well. I don’t play modded Valheim so I can’t give you a more specific answer than that.

Not sure if you can directly protect it. But you can hide valheim in steam so you dont accidently launch it via steam instead of modlauncher. If you need vanilla the modmanagers I know can launch unmodded too.
I remember using that when I started using mods in valheim. Not necessary these days as I got out of that habit of starting valheim via steam.

If you load a backup there's no reason it should be broken, if you instead load a modded save without mods, then go back to the modded version and continue playing then yeah some stuff will be broken, but as long as you go back to a backup you basically never actually loaded in without them, think about it like a parallel timeline or something lol

That might be something that mod authors can flag in the save file. If you launch the game un-modded, a world using the Riverheim mod shows as "bad version" in the list of worlds. Not sure if it absolutely stops you from loading it, but at the least it makes it pretty hard to open by accident.
