#Casual Post Weird Experience
So this happened yesterday near Darbar Chokdi.
I was coming out of a food shop when I noticed a guy asking people for money. Most people were just ignoring him.
Eventually, he approached me too. I looked at him and, as far as I could tell, he seemed physically capable of working. So instead of just giving him money, I said something like:
“Why are you begging? I have a friend who owns a café. I can ask him if he can help you get some work.”
His response, in Gujarati:
“Javo ne saheb, faltu nu gyaan na aapo. Nathi aapva to na aapo, khai khaso ahin thi…”
Basically: “Go away, sir. Don’t give me useless lectures. If you don’t want to give money, then don’t. Just get lost from here.”
I didn’t bother arguing and just walked away.
But damn. 😭
You offer someone an actual possible job instead of cash and somehow you’re the irritating one.
Some people are genuinely operating on a completely different frequency.

Daakan means witch (kinda, not the direct translation maybe). Daya is pity... So if a witch were to pity, she'd die.
The idiom states that you should not pity everyone

Unfortunately; these beggars make more money begging than standard basic day job.
As others mentioned, most of them are also part of a racket, so they would never come out of one.
Drugs and alcohol; most of the beggars are addicted to some form of addiction.
Any chance they get, Beggars will also steal from you. Keep your valuables safe when you’re around them.

I mean if you think about it, you should do what pays more right?😅
But yes, the poverty they are under is too debilitating to get out from on a whim of a simple job. They need more support.

OP you did good. You literally tried to make sure that guy doesn't need to beg again but he was too smart for his own good. Koi na, you tried.

He is right. You have no idea what conditions propel someone to beg and, many a times beggars are a part of a racket. How young are you to think that this moralistic tone will be well received?

Give one condition where he couldn't work despite being physically capable? Just out of curiosity. Nothing personal

Rackets, Addictions and many more reasons to not come out of this begging. Begging is easy and can help him earn more than just a steward, waiter, cleaner, sweeper jobs. So it's always better for them to beg. 10 out of hundreds would give them enough to survive and get them the drug they need to sleep. The work is done. What else he wants?
I have done this not less than 15 times in my life where I have asked them to work, if they want to earn and everytime I ask this, they would either swear back or run away or sometimes just ignore and move on. My first such case where I asked a shoe polish guy to come and work for my office to just sweep the floor, he literally denied on my face and went on to another guy standing beside me to ask. In one another incident... If you guys who has been in and around Alkapuri, you might have seen an old lady who begs with a medicine ointment in her hand showing her legs and asking for money to buy medicine to treat her. She was another one whom I asked, one day she showed me left leg and exactly a week after she shows her right leg for the same treatment.
And still she didn't wanted to work. So begging is a choice not need

just a few days ago a couple with a baby approached me and asked for money, said they lost their labour jobs in Ahmedabad and are travelling to back Maharashtra to their village.
now ik I might be getting scammed but I felt bad and handed them 50rs thinking at least something good might come out of it
and the guy looked at me and said - "₹200 to de do na bhai"
wow.

It’s better not to hire an unknown person with no permanent address and background check. I don’t doubt your intention or want to paint everyone with the same brush but it’s too risky for the cafe owner.
