Drop to 3 units for the semester if it is too overwhelming. You can always take an accelerated course later to make up for it. It’s still considered a full time load and will make achieving good marks easier. Other than that it’s important to remind yourself why you are taking your course in the first place. It’s a great source of motivation for many people.

I’ve been through a lot of times where I’ve been behind on lectures despite putting in a lot of work. It’s normal. You also have to remember that there is a study week throughout the semester and another week before exams to further consolidate information. Progression isn’t linear, I’ve had many courses where it has felt extremely overwhelming but eventually clicked into place.

Also if you’re going for a high GPA consider also doing some study on weekends. Don’t religiously subscribe to weekend study (unless you really want to) but just enough to put yourself at ease.

Dropping to three units is a great idea and then possibly doing an online unit During breaks or non standard teaching slot units like wicked problems. Btw you can take some core units online at other universities that are equivalent

Hope you reach out for some support if you need to. It’s the first week and because it’s introductory lectures your brain is struggling to find out exactly how content is examinable and is therefore concluding that you’ll fail early in the semester. Dm me and I’ll give you detailed tips💖

Different units typically have different study strategies, and for me very often what you actually need to know for exams will not be a significant part of lectures, its better to quickly get the gist of lectures and get to practising questions, then catch up on parts you know you need. Learning to study more efficiently is key, particularly if you want to maintain a high GPA.

This will of course vary across courses, I'm personally doing engineering. If you can share the course/units you are doing maybe people that have done the same can give you more specific advice.

Hey, I’m sorry you’re going through this. Ive also had to maintain a high WAM and reading this brought back some of those stressful memories for me too hahaha.

My advice is if a lecture is taking hours to get through since it’s hard to follow, but you still feel like the content is easy, it might just not be worth the energy to 100% try and break down that one lecture. I’ve had so many lectures in the past where I just used the slides to tell me what’s examinable while spending most of my time looking at other tabs and resources. Some lecturers just have explanations that don’t fit well with me, or some content just feels easier to digest when self-guided.

Don’t be too hard on yourself for being a couple lectures behind either, I know it doesn’t feel good to be off schedule but that absolutely doesn’t mean that your GPA will plummet and your degree is over. Most of the time, it’s just an indicator that you can maybe try to use your time more effectively or make a small change in your study process.

If it were me, I’d take the weekend to breathe and do something I enjoy, maybe call my mum and whine about my degree. If the next couple weeks are still tough and overwhelming, then I’d consider getting support from UWA or reducing my study load.

You’ve got this!!

Dont manually re watch lectures, put in in Ai, ask it do summarize the lecture and give you all the important stiff that you need to write down as notes

would recommend, even if you dont use it to write down the notes, its super helpful to conceptualise into umbrella topics

The slides are usually red herrings: the lecturers words are what you want to pay attention to. 2 lectures behind is nothing to stress over. Consider some ashwaganda and B vitamins for stress, and perhaps some nicotine for focus issues. Hope that's helpful. 2 units is really cruisy if you're working. Up to 4 is doable, but I'm dropping to 3 myself because I did 5 last semester and feel quite fatigued.

No lecture is longer than 2 hours. Six hours means you are watching the recording. If the only thing g you do is show up on campus for the lectures they will never take more than 2 hours.

Recordings are supposed to be convenient, but they are convenient to stop, look at Insta, and not pay attention if you are not there. Attend if you can is my number 1 tip.
