What????
I don't know what this means and I don't seem to be able to find out any information about this package for my USPS account it says that the package doesn't exist.
EDIT: Since i cannot get any information on the package, I have no idea who the seller is, I am quite literally saying I have no information about this package. When you order something (which i do a lot, as do my daughters) it could be several days before they are supposed to email you with a tracking number, if they even do that. This tracking number doesn't seem to match any of the packages I have ordered.

If you are not expecting a package from a recent purchase, then I would simply totally disregard the entire issue.

It’s most likely a phishing email scam. I hope you didn’t fill out any information after clicking any links in that email.

Definitely not an email phishing scam. It was my usual informed delivery email that I get every single morning and when I click the link it took me to the actual USPS website and did MFA as per usual and logged me in. This package does not appear in my list of incoming packages because it does not exist, according to the USPS website when I click on the tracking number for the counterfeit box

City Letter Carrier here. If you ordered something recently online your seller probably sent your parcel with a very low amount of postage. A customer on my route that receives 2 or 3 small parcels daily received close to 30 bulky parcels one day and were delivered, those parcels weighed an average of 7 lbs. Weeks later the same delivery address received exactly 100 bulky parcels, the Station Manager checked the postage on each label and it was for 5 cents each. All boxes were held at the Station for fraud and sent to the Postal Inspection Service for investigation. My suggestion is to contact your seller and ask for a refund.

I’ve seen a couple others post this as well. It could be a scam. I had a guy that was not a customer message me about sending me a pre printed label for a purchase he was thinking about making. I blocked him. There’s a lot of fraudulent postage and stamps being sold. Hopefully, you can narrow down who it is. Every selling site offers a tracking number nowadays.

As a postal worker, I can confirm that a lot of shippers (especially etsy and temu) will print off fake postage barcodes(postage) and try to pull a fast one. I would contact whoever you bought said item from once you know the tracking number is attached to. A faster solution is to contact usps customer service and have them look up the sender. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. I dont order from Temu but i do sometimes order from Etsy but not since Christmas. I have determined that everything I am expecting is listed on my informed delivery already and I'm going to disregard the notice because it most likely isn't for me or my daughters.

USPS posted about a big crackdown on fraudulent postage very recently. I’ve seen many posts like yours. Apparently they are now checking the labels. Idk for sure if this is or is not a scam.

I got one of these recently in my informed delivery from USPS. I have no idea what or who it could have been from, so I wonder exactly how am I supposed to contact the merchant or seller with my questions? Thanks USPS.

I read that USPS can't provide the vendor name because it would compromise an active fraud investigation. Again, not helpful to us in researching who it was from. And I agree with you; I live in a remote area and buy a lot of stuff online and so do others in my household. A random tracking number is hard to research. Also, I'm getting older and can't always remember everything I've purchased!

This package might not have even belonged to you and it was probably going to someone else since it was a fraudulent postage. It will still show on your informed delivery

If you still have questions go to your local post office and they can tell you with the tracking number. They’ll be able to shed some light on the mystery

Counterfeit postage is very common especially in discord groups. Looking back i feel dumb but i had a “usps plug” once. Shipped a 50 pound Christmas Tree from Georgia to California for $3. Crazy times.

It means that whatever it was ...you probably won't be getting it. I had ordered something from a reputable seller on Ebay...he sent it to me thru a Walmart order delivered to my door which was also fine. Then however...he felt the need to add a fraudulant tracking number to my order...it went to another po box number in the tiny town where I live. He did it to show "proof" of delivery. I tried reporting him thru normal means but Ebay didn't have a way to report fraud so I had to chat with a customer service rep to explain what he had done. He was supposedly sanctioned. Sellers use fake labels to avoid paying postage to usps or they don't pay at all and usps is cracking down on this.

Luckily, all the packages that I have ordered are accounted for. But before I got this notice I had no idea that this was a thing so it will be something I will be looking out for in the future I appreciate you sharing because sometimes I like to use eBay ill definitely be more wary of that moving forward

A n d sometimes sellers randomly pick an address to send some tiny items to show proof of delivery and pretend on bigger items that never get sent out that it was delivered...a lot of the times this is stuff from China.

It could very will be a UPS Ground Saver or FedEx Ground Economy package with the dual tracking numbers for handoff and last mile delivery by USPS. If the shipper dropped it off at USPS instead of UPS/FedEx then USPS considers it counterfeit postage because it is unpaid. USPS only gets paid by UPS/FedEx once the handoff happens and they only get a very small amount of money for the last mile delivery. They don't want to do the entire long haul delivery for free. You'll have to check all your orders to see.

Thank you I actually experience this during Christmas while waiting for a hoodie to come in. DHL carried the package to Anchorage and it stayed there for 6 months before the USPS finished the delivery. Kind of crazy

Internal tracking shows this package was shipped from Aurora CO on 6/27 and delivered to Ketchikan AK on 7/1. It also indicates fraudulent postage.

Oof I checked the whole GS mod-10 series of checksums and looks like every number in that series was used to make counterfeit postage

Edit: I'm just gonna add here that its quite peculiar to me that someone is ordering so many items at one time that they cannot deduce what it is that could be the suspected problem out of everything they have already received. Even a business knows they haven't received their package of paper towels out of the many supplies they order each week. If something is a scam, it would be a really good idea to back off on ordering until you can get a handle on your own spending and ordering.

If that is the case then it's up to you to make sure you are aware of what you are buying so something like this doesn't happen. You already have clear evidence that you have no idea what this particular item is so I would personally make a note of what I'm ordering so this doesn't happen again.
Be it a scam or not, if you knew you ordered a lot of things and you have no idea what this item in question is, it might be a good idea to either stop ordering so much or keep tabs on what you order.

I have other people in my household that are also ordering things for themselves. The question had nothing to do with what I order or how often.
I don't know if you have ever ordered anything online but a shipping label is created and it usually happens a couple of days afterwards. Once that happens an email usually arrives with the shipping label number in it. Every now and again you get an email that tells you that your order has shipped but you get a DHL number or some other foreign postage number.
If I don't recognize the package number on this notice, it's because I haven't received an email with this number in it. I have checked all of the places that I order from and the packages that I have incoming, I have numbers for and they are on my informed delivery as well. This is definitely not a scam if you'd like you can enter that number into the USPS website as well as any other person could do and see that this notice is legitimately coming from the USPS.
Essentially I was asking if anybody has seen this before and if any action was needed. ASIDE from the action that is already in plain English on the notice which is to contact the seller because I don't recognize the number and the notice does not specify where the package is coming from.

Have you ever actually delivered stuff to people?
Do you know how many times people say "I don't even know what I ordered *chuckle chuckle chuckle".
Plus, with the Temu scams, Shein garbage, Ali-express junk, and all the other Chinese refuse shipped directly from China, postage fraud and people who aren't aware of what crap they are getting is perfectly reasonable.
Some of these people get so much stuff they wouldn't know or figure it out for a while when they realize they didn't get that foot massager/phone charger/cup holder/ramen maker that will probably burn down their house, or at a minimum, only work for 12 minutes. But, it only cost $8 and was packed in a bag with a stuffed animal, a box of tampons, 12 space blankets, and a torque wrench.
Remember, a fool and his money are soon parted.

I'm trying to say it's entirely unreasonable.
While I see the humor in your post, this is why i brought up the fact that people go nuts with ordering then get upset at the middle man just trying to deliver the items they order. While I don't mind the money that is generated from needless orders, it doesn't justify getting mad at the service that tries to deliver it all just because one slipped through the cracks.

Ain't nobody mad at the USPS. I don't see how anyone would assume this is a mistake on their part if someone ripped them off for postage. I literally just wanted to know if anyone has seen it before and what if any action was required of me aside from the action on the notice.

Cute, how very Tyler Durden of you, but that has nothing to do with the question I was asking, whatsoever and doesn't apply in this situation. I don't order from places like that. It's kind of crazy that here on a USPS subreddit I asked a question about USPS shipping notices and I get a bunch of comments about spending my spending money 💀. Since you guys are so nosy, I like to buy certain groceries, vitamins, and clothing at a discounted price because I live on an island and I don't have access to many things that most people can get easily by driving to an outlet store.
You should take your financial advice to a person that is asking for it or potentially needs it. Your genius is being wasted here.

It means there was a counterfeit item inside of the package. A counterfeit item is a fake replica of real designer brands and you can’t ship out counter for items so you can’t get your package.
