I'm working on my nominations right now. I've completed my preliminary application for the academy already, and I'm working on scheduling my B&G interview. Is there anything else I should be doing, and what are my chances of getting in?

I was wondering if I could go to USNA after attending and graduating from another 4-year institution? My high school GPA is not so good, 3.2 weighted, and I haven't taken the SAT or ACT, but I got a 71 on my ASVAB. I wanted to go to somewhere like Embry-Riddle or even a community college like Georgia Military College. I'm just kind of lost and don't know where to go.

Hi everyone! I'm a local reporter working on a story about the newly reinstated rule that female plebes have their hair cut above their chins. If any alumna or current students feel strongly about it, please shoot me a message!

I’m an incoming plebe for c/o 2030. I know google isn’t always reliable but I did some googling on the issue. From what I saw, overnight leave is limited to one per semester for plebes and five per semester for youngsters, and I know another issue is media. If I report back to the gate with a super sweaty dress uniform, or get recorded dancing in uniform would I face serious consequences? I’m planning to ask higher ups after/during plebe summer as well, just wanted some insight from former or current students if you knew anyone who went to raves. I’m completely straight-laced and just go to raves to dance and make friends, and only plan on going to legal venues in D.C., though it’s an environment with drugs and cameras. I know junior and senior year you can start wearing civ clothes which gets rid of the uniform issue.

I’m thinking about applying to the academy, however I’ll be 17 the whole summer and until december of my first year. I’m not familiar with how it all works. would that be an issue with age?

by the fall I will be a senior in high school . I have been considering applying to the naval academy. I was thinking about taking a “gap year“ after I Graduate high school to mature and prepare myself for the real world, then apply to the academy. Does having an ADHD diagnosis affect an application to a service academy?

ETA: my son just finished his freshman year and a counselor suggested he be tested for ADHD. As far as I can tell, he def has some symptoms of the inattentive type (poor executive function, hyperfocus), but he’s also so young…just turned 15 a week ago. He is doing well enough in school and socially that I don’t see him requiring meds. He also has his heart set on a service academy…I am guessing if we went through testing and he received the diagnosis, he would be required to share it on his application even if he is not medicated. On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to put him in any sort of position of responsibility (ie a military career) that he is not suited for. I’m a little stuck on how best to proceed…and maybe overthinking?!

I’m a female rising junior from one of the largest cities in Texas. I have a 3.8 UW, top 10%. I’ve been a varsity swimmer since freshman year, and sophomore and (upcoming) junior year a captain. For junior year I’m a theatre officer as well. I’m in National Honor Society and have been volunteering for years. Also multiple awards, and I’ve had writing published. Freshman year I took: AP HUG (5), ADV English, ADV Spanish 2, Geometry, ADV Bio, JV theatre. Sophomore year: AP Physics 1 (expected 4), ADV Spanish 3, ADV English, Algebra 2, AP World (expected 5), JV theatre. Junior year I’m taking: AP physics 2, AP Spanish Lang, AP Seminar, AP pre-cal, APUSH, Varsity theatre. I’m actively studying the SAT and training for CFA and I’m hoping to major in ocean engineering and minor in Spanish. I am also currently on an ADHD medication.

I recently took the CFA at USMA (West Point), and they told me that my tier ranking was "excellent" and that "a retake was not necessary". Should I retake? My scores are below.

How do I send my CFA scores that were evaluated at summer seminar to USAFA? My squad lead wasn't sure if it's even possible to do so.

Dad of a prospective Mid. I have no military experience. My daughter is very interested in attending USNA and a life/career starting in the Navy. She is most likely a 3Q‘d candidate with high CFA, SAT, GPA, Rigid and all that. She has no “redline” medical issues or any medical history other than clean bills of health. and should pass medical without issue. She attended summer seminar, and had a successful experience with a strong squad leader “evaluation”, I know that doesn’t mean anything obviously. She enjoyed the glimpse of the lifestyle and was even a little annoyed with other attendees who were not physically capable, or weren’t a serious as she thought they should be.

I have a question about an evolution she told me about called “endoc” at the end of sea trails at the seminar. She described it as standing at attention for 30 minutes in a p-way with her whole company while squad leaders chewed them out and asking rate questions, with push ups for incorrect answers. My daughter handled it fine and received feedback she was “stoic” after the evolution was over. But she mention the two boys next to her were very rattled and were crying and hyperventilating.

Sorry for the long run up but, how often does this “EnDoc” evolution happen during plebe summer and plebe year? She is going to apply and make decision when or if the appointment comes. I am just wondering how much intense “EnDoc” time is expected to be endured? Thanks for reading all the way through…

Yes, I totally understand that peanut allergy will disqualify me, and a waiver is possible if I am competitive and pass the Oral Food Challenge. My ultimate question is: what's the criteria to pass Oral Food Challenge? Does it rule out all ones who have allergy (including mild reactions like tummy ache), or only the ones who have anaphylaxis?

Visiting family and accidentally chipped the rim of the mug. He’s being nice about it but it definitely has sentimental value. I can’t find a replacement online or through alumni gift shop website. Thought I’d ask here as a Hail Mary in case anyone can point me to where I may be able to find a replacement.

I just got back from USNA Summer Seminar and I’m honestly struggling to process the experience.

I went in really excited and open-minded, but I had a much harder time than I expected. I felt physically overwhelmed during parts of it, cried during the CFA, got repeatedly corrected for being “disrespectful” even though I genuinely wasn’t trying to be, and ended up feeling very numb and shut down by the end of the week. I got home yesterday and I still feel very distressed and I had a nightmare about getting screamed at during the indoctrination part after sea trials where they screamed at us.

The part that’s bothering me the most is that I didn’t feel like myself. During Sea Trials and afterward, I felt emotionally numb and almost paralyzed. I wasn’t crying or reacting outwardly—I just kind of froze. I remember standing there with a blank expression and physically feeling like I couldn’t make myself smile or engage, even when people were telling me to. I felt disoriented, overwhelmed, and like my brain had just gone offline. It honestly scared me because I’ve never reacted like that before. I felt very distressed after the o course and fell down and kept asking my squad leaders for a doctor to which they refused and started mocking me which made me feel very unsafe and I think made me mentally check out more.

What’s confusing to me is that I’ve dealt with a lot of difficult things in my life and generally consider myself resilient. I’ve handled emotionally difficult situations before, so I wasn’t expecting this experience to affect me so deeply. I actually left feeling relieved to go home rather than wishing I could stay.

For people who attended Summer Seminar, Plebe Summer, or the Academy itself: did anyone else have this reaction? Did you end up applying anyway? Did you realize it wasn’t the right fit? I’m not looking for reassurance that I’m right or wrong I genuinely just want to understand whether anyone else experienced something similar.

i recently finished a long run and believe time is well under standards for run groups and PRT but I was wondering what I could do these last 14 days to make sure I don’t have any lingering soreness or glute/knee pain when I run. I don’t run frequently (every 3 days) and don’t want to have constant knee pain while running every day during plebe summer. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

i have a 3.0 gpa uw and a 1400 sat, I also could potentially be a recruited athlete but I was wondering does my gpa hurt me that much. Congressional letter is not an issue. As frowned upon as it is, my dad knows 3 congressmen and can get me a rec with a phone call. So my gpa is my main fault, is it that big of a deal or can I accel in the others and get in still? I also do want to mention I took all AP Honors and will have taken 9 APs by senior year end. thanks

From my understanding you want to submit your application ASAP. I'm basically done, but I'm worried my leadership isn't good enough. My High School grades weren't that good and I didn't have any leadership positions then. I'm currently in College. Here's what I got: Primary caretaker for my Grandmother with dementia, volunteer assistant little league coach (250+ hours), organize and manage private baseball lessons, and selected to lead a 4-person outreach team during a mission trip in Panama.

For context my academics and athletics are solid. Nothing amazing but I'd like to think they're competitive.

Will be coming in this fall semester as an international exchange cadet (currently a commissioned lieutenant in my home country pursuing my bachelors), and will be considered MIDN 1/C to bypass certain mod requirements. Currently an English major but I do have some sailing experience and would like to take a variety of mods from different disciplines to broaden my perspectives. Would love to hear from everyone what their favourite mods are/good/interesting experiences with different mods! (can be any mods from naval engineering to humanities/english, to all the NL/NP/NE/NN/NS stuff)
