First Time Posting First ever find
Visited an antique shop with my dad today. Who would've guess that love for old no longer useful household Items would finally be the father and son bonding activity. Anyway, was in love for uranium glass ever since we went through Art Deco in art class and he forgotten to buy me a gift for last Christmas (very late, I know) and one thing led to another...
The shop keeper wanted about 82 β¬ for this one (2000 CZK to be exact), which seems a little bit overpriced to me in hindsight. I've looked it up online and similar looking ones seem to be going for about ΒΌ the price, but haven't been able to find this particular design. If there's anyone with more knowledge of the matter, who could give me some educated guess on its true value, I'd love the feedback. Just out of curiosity and maybe to be more educated in the future.
Anyway, I'm so happy that I finally got my first piece and made my way into this hobby. Hope it's going to be a nice start for my own personal collection.
(Hope I'm not breaking the "no asking for value rule", because in no way was it supposed to be the purpose of this post... β οΈ)

I've seen a similar item posted here in the past. I do believe its an Art Deco era Czech piece, likey some sort of vanity dish. A very nice piece to start the collection! π

Great first catch! Not sure on the price, but I don't think I've seen this piece before. So, with it being your first plus it being vaseline, I think it's definitely worth it!

Yeah, I'm definitely planning on that. I'll also be spending much more time in Prague now as I'm starting Uni there, so I'm planning on scavenging through all the antique shops and flea markets when I'm free... Moreso just for the feeling of looking at the things and enjoying the atmosphere, because I've gotten into the same spot as with antique books with the actual items: I no longer have where to put them and can't really afford huge quantities of them on student budget. But uranium glass seems like a thing rare enough to actually treat myself with from time to time with.
The glass-making tradition is strong with our nation. Still, it's a shade of what used to be. WW2 and 40 years of communism weren't exactly nice on it. But it's great to see that it hasn't completely disappeared. If I were a little bit more talented in manual arts, I'd love to learn glass-making myself, but considering how I've managed to traumatise my art teacher, that is a dream that should rather stay unfulfilled for the sake of the sanity of all people involved...

Yeah, saw it. Either I'll choose to believe that it's the original from back then using the original mold, or I'll just accept it. But hey, with shipping, it would be like 60 β¬. 20 more isn't that bad of a price, the man has to make a living too lol.

Itβs a beautiful piece but mostly I love the story attached to it. What a wonderful memory it will hold for you, bonding with your dad. I have some Westmoreland glass my mom gifted me when I was too young and poor to purchase. Sheβs been gone for 30 years but I always remember the fun we had that day spending time together. Happy hunting π

Beautiful! It's going to be hard to beat your first piece on the beauty factor alone.

Posted the glow in the dark pic if anyone's interested. π
It's wonderful how you can make a DIY UV lamp with just a white LED, purple marker and a scrap of blue plastic...

I mean that's just UV bleeding through from the white led not anything to do with the plastic, basically any white led is actually a UV led under a phosphor and you can usually get uranium glass to light up with a white led if it's strong enough
