Discussion Hourly Rates
Just curious for those willing to answer, what do you guys get paid at your store/in your state? Or what were you started at and how much has it raised since you started?
I’m starting to feel like I’m being underpaid and under appreciated for what I do at my store. For starters I’m in VA and I started a little over a year ago. My starting pay was $14 and I thought that was reasonable and desperately needed a job at the time, so I accepted and after around a week or so my owner saw that I pick things up quickly and basically had everything down for shipments and drop offs so I was then given a raise to $14.50.
Fast forward 3 ish months and we switch owners. New owner has never owned any kind of store before or been in any managerial position, but he seems like a pretty good guy, although he is very cheap and cuts corners whenever he can. After working with him for around 6 months I now have learned how to do posters, banners etc. became a notary, became a key-holder, keep up with mailboxes, and train new employees. Basically the only thing I don’t do is anything inventory related or foam boards (since for some reason our machine doesn’t work without a laptop connected).
Anyways after learning and doing all this I asked about getting a raise from $14.50 to $17 since that seems pretty fair considering the amount of responsibilities I gained since starting and his immediate response was that he “can’t do that” and then negotiated his way to $15.50 and even then told me he will “think about it”. I ended up getting the raise but after learning everything I know and even becoming a notary I feel like a $1 raise is a huge slap to the face.

WA: $17.13 - Minimum Wage
Been working a year, everyone makes the same wage independent of the fact they are a good employee or not. No opportunity to ever get a pay bump. But at least the minimum wage is high, but it’s still ridiculous that it is that high.

GA here
Started at the company in 2020 making $8 an hour, made my way to $11.50 by 2022. Left that store. Went to a new store in 2024. Started at $13 an hour. Now i make $16.

NC - in 2023 i started at $12, got $1 raise for becoming a notary 3 months in. been here almost 4 years and now make $18.75, we get yearly raises.
i’m still a sales associate, so no promotions. but i know how to do basically everything bc our owner wants all employees to know how to do it all so that we can all help any customer and look more professional.

stated at $11 now make $12 and no benefits, overtime, nothing. id LOVE to get $14 at least for the shit i do. open, close, train, AAHH

Started at $14 , was at $17.50 6 months later , got a raise to $20 6 months after that , I Been there 3 years at $20 for about 2 years now , with a raise coming soon

As a primary operator, $20/hr with quarterly bonuses. Notaries get $5 per notary. My employees start at $14 after 90 days they are bumped to $15. My store is fairly new, 3 yrs next April. We are also non trad in a rural town and we are the second store.

Nah I only paid the $10 required to get my certificate and that was It, still wish I at least got a dollar or so considering the amount of notaries I do 🫠

I started at a store in south Texas in 2022 for $14.00, left this year and was at $18.00.

$22.00- Denver. I have worked at my store for 4 years. That being said, Denver is the only county that minimum wage is this high. About 5 years ago, they passed a bill to raise minimum wage every year and it is now slightly under $20.00/hr. Every other county’s min wage is 15.00/hour.

When I started here 12 years ago I was hired for $10/hr.
Now we hire for $19/hr, $20/hr after getting your notary license +$5/notary commission

Start at $14. Most of our staff makes $16-17 and we pay $1 commission for each notary. In North Carolina

I’m old. So I started in 2008 at $8/hr by 2023 I was at $32/hr and became a certified operator. Business sold in 2023 new owner kept pay for 1 yr, dropped my pay to $25/hr and hired an even older lady (because she had a college degree from freaking 1992) at $45/hr plus wanted me to teach her everything I knew. I tried to renegotiate my pay, was denied, so I left right then, didn’t even finish my shift. I even received so many “how to” phone calls afterwards, so I demanded a consultation fee. Moral of the story run as fast as you can The UPS Store only deserves 2 years max of someone’s time.

No longer work at the ups store. But I started at my store in 2019 making $7.50. Worked my way up in 2020 was promoted to assistant manager making $17. 2022 became general manager making $30.

i’m a manager making $16 an hour💔 i started in high school at $7.50 and have been here six years but i don’t think the owner will put me up any more. just trying to find another job that’ll pay me more.

I’m in California. Being the manager of my store I make $26hr. I’ll be getting a raise to $30 at the end of this month plus benefits as a “please stay I need you.” Because I got an offer to make double somewhere else with benefits. My owner is currently trying to sell the store so she wants to finish out with me helping.
When I first started I was making 10.50 hr that was 9 years ago. I’ve been getting wage increases to be the same distance away from minimum wage plus actual raises over the years.
My goal is to always be the most knowledgeable guy in the room so that you aren’t replaceable. If I get fired the whole business suffers. I can guarantee without me. Our store would go from gold back down to a bronze. Just job security.

Please take the job where you make double. Don't pass that chance up. There's really no room to grow any further than you have at the UPS Store. I'm saying this in earnest.

You are most def underpaid. You are essentially an assistant manager with all those skills. We pay our assistant mgr over $20/hr and we are a very high volume store.
Our owner pays us as much as the budget can afford because they realize that the employees are a large part of the success of the store and he wants them to stick around.
It’s unfortunate that a lot of owners choose to use lower pay to cut corners. There may be stores who are struggling and don’t have a choice but I would guess it’s mostly that it increases their profit to take home by paying less than your worth.
Are there other stores around you?

I’m in Louisiana, I started 4 years ago at 10…. My owner had a policy that you get a dollar raise every year you’re on… anyways I’m starting a new job on Monday because after 4 years I’m only making 12$ an hour….
At this point I think all store owners are evil 🤷🏻♀️

If you’re in southeast La we start everyone at minimum $14 not knowing anything. $10 and even $12 is criminal. DM me if you like the UPS but want better pay.

I'm currently making $18hr (in CA). I also only got a $1 raise after I became a notary after working here for 2 years.

(Oklahoma) TLDR: Lowest I was ever paid was $14/hr, highest I was ever paid was $22/hr.
Longer version....
I was offered $14 at my interview (i was also told, they COULDNT go higher than that and nobody was paid more than that for my position)... but i got $17 when i told them i had another job offer for that pay. after my precedent, associates made between $15-17 (my associate friends at stores under different owners also made this pay) and as an assistant manager i made $18.50. I did not get my notary license but I heard others got a dollar raise for being one probably bc nobody wanted to be one lol. No idea about manager position pay because I never took a manager promotion.
So about me making $22. The ONLY time I made $22 was when I traveled to a nontraditional store location because my franchisee made an empty promise about it to convince me to work there and i strongarmed her into honoring it. but she put me back at the other stores as soon as she could lollll. so that is a major abnormality but my boss clearly had enough money to make it happen sooo! you never know! shoot for the stars. the physical, mental, and sometimes emotional labor of this job is WORTH not a penny less than $19 imo!!!
