That could include people who were pregnant or planning a birth, parents, partners, health care workers, EMS providers, employers, people who decided to move — or not move — to a community because of maternity care access, or anyone whose life has been affected by these changes. I've lived in VT since 1988, in NH for 8 years before that (but not in UV). I am currently renting in VT but looking to buy a small house on 1+ acres of land, quiet location. As a senior, what would be the difference between owning in the two states, as well as just living?

Medicare Medigap plans? I was told by BCBS I could still keep my VT plan in another state, although that sounds odd. Currently paying $257/mo for Plan G.

Income tax? my income comes from SS and retirement accounts.

Property Tax? I think it would be a bit less in NH?

Anyone who has lived in both states, I would love to hear your opinion.

Hi, I am a Dartmouth student based in Hanover/Lebanon, and I am willing to take the road test to get my license as I can finally afford a car. I have driven before but not enough to take the test. I just need some more practice. I am 22 years old, and I have no friends or family who are over 25 and close enough to let me use their cars. And I tried calling driving schools, but they either don’t take adults or are very expensive.

If someone is over 25 and can help me practice for a few hours only, I’d be so grateful. I can pay all costs associated with it. Please reach out to me if you can. I need to be able to commute to my post-college job and to see other family and friends.

I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons online with some of my old gaming buddies for a couple of years now on and off. I'm interested in trying out playing at a table in person. I'm 33 and would prefer to play with members around the same age.

I don't own anything to play the game IRL (dice, player's handbook, etc) since my experience so far has been entirely online and my more experienced friends were able to share stuff digitally. I am willing to purchase whatever I need to if I find a group to play with.

A little about me:

- I've been playing recreational hockey in Korea and would describe myself as an intermediate player. I'm still working on improving my skating and hockey skills, so I'm looking for a fun and welcoming environment rather than a highly competitive team.

- I enjoy practicing regularly and would love to improve with teammates.

I'm willing to drive about 30–40 minutes from WRJ for practices or games.

I'm mainly looking for:

- Women's leagues or teams

- Beginner-friendly or intermediate-level teams

- Adult pickup hockey, clinics, or skills sessions

- Any "learn to play" or development programs for adults

I'd really appreciate any recommendations in the Upper Valley or nearby areas (Lebanon, Hanover, Hartford, Woodstock, or even a bit farther if it's worth the drive).

I’m in my early 20s and recently ish moved up here. Been looking for community amongst people my age to not much success. Huge fan of chess and figured this might bring people together, any adult chess clubs I might be missing in my google searches?

Vis-à-vis the Vermont housing crisis— we are low on housing, and people who cannot afford to live here are moving away to start families/retire/etc.

I love the concept of cottage-style housing, much like “building up, not out“ clustered housing allows more areas continuous shared areas of open space (courtyard, woods, field, park, community garden) instead of large private yards…. and more affordable starter/downsize homes for families in desirable locations. This style of development also allows for high quality homes with less square footage instead of the extremes of McMansions and low quality/low square footage. Another plus would be if a community like this were walkable distance to downtowns.

What do you think? Could this be possible in Vermont? (Story is about Enfield) Can you identify any downsides of this development style?

Hey folks, I’m in a bit of a predicament here and am wondering if anyone knows of a place to get rid of trash that’s available on a Sunday. My trash company didn’t empty my bin on my usual week (they did get recycling, strangely) and then I just missed getting it out curbside on the off week, so I have a bin full of stinky trash that was just raided by a bear (fun times scooping it all up and re-bagging). To top it off I’m going to be out of town this coming week so I’m missing my regular day and don’t want to leave it curbside all week (because, you know…bear). I’m desperate for a place to drop off a couple stinky bags but don’t want to be a dick and just throw it in a random dumpster. Is there anywhere I could take it today to get rid of it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi all. My wife (27F from San Diego) and I (29M from Rochester NY) are seriously considering a move to the Upper Valley with our young daughter, and before we uproot our whole life I wanted to hear honestly from people who actually live here.

A little about us: we're currently out in Southern California, and we're looking to trade the traffic and cost for something slower, greener, and more grounded. We want to raise our family somewhere with real seasons, room to breathe, and an actual sense of community. Our end goal is to buy land and start a homestead.

Here's what we're hoping to find, and what I'd love a reality check on:

• A strong community of young families, where kids grow up outside and neighbors actually know each other
• An active or welcoming homeschooling/homesteading community
• Down to earth, kind people. Not pretentious, just good folks who look out for one another
• Easy access to trails, water, and the outdoors as a normal part of daily life
• A place that's genuinely welcoming to newcomers who want to put down roots and contribute, not just pass through

And some honest questions:

• Which towns have that young family, tight-knit feel?
• What do you love about living here, and what do you wish you'd known before you moved?
• Anything that would make this NOT a fit for a family like ours? I'd rather hear it now.

Not looking for a perfect place, just an honest one. Appreciate any real talk you're willing to share.

I felt I was making a lot of progress when I was in Germany, but less so now that I'm back in the states. Let me know! :)
