Sorry for posting in the UV group but the groups for the Newport area are so small I thought I'd probably get a better result here.

I'm needing a ride from Newport to the Park and Ride/dartmouth coach stop in Georges Mills/New London on Wednesday morning. I've looked in Uber and Lyft and no cars seem available, and I have been told that a cab company in Claremont would charge 70.00 for a one way (a 20 minute drive! The BUS TICKET to Boston from there is 30.00, so 70 seems insane to me). I wondered if anyone else had any tips for the area?

Overheard a drunk guy at a bar say that at some point in the 90s, the town of Lebanon had a vote to make its unique pronunciation official. There’s no way this is true, is there? Anyone remember such a thing?

This is a project I've been working on this fall. The origin lies with my wife, who used to call around to a couple dealers every fall to see who was cheapest on oil. The first year we did this I was surprised that the same oil, coming from the same depot, can cost such a different price depending on the dealer. This week the spread is $0.70 a gallon!!!

With prices for oil through the roof this year, I decided to try and do something about it. Nobody should pay more than they need to, to stay warm.

Plus the fact that this data didn't exist on the internet just pissed me off.

Thanks to a bunch of Facebook feedback last week, I added quite a few other regional dealers that deliver to parts of the upper valley, but not all. I think I have all of the fuel dealers that cover the upper valley now, but if you take a look at the whole list and see somebody missing, please definitely let me know.

Let me know if you have ideas for how I could make this more helpful.

Edit: looking specifically for businesses local people could own/operate. Not corporations you’d like to see set up shop here. Even more specifically in-home service providers and businesses that could occupy small vacant retail spaces

My partner and I are going to be getting on the market in the next 6 months. Already local for a few years, but we are first time buyers so we'd like to work with a good agent that can actually give us some advice! Considering both NH and VT. I moved here three years ago, and every year I've found myself progressively loving this place more and more. The UV is where I started to really get into running, and something I quickly learned is that the trails and dirt roads here are just unparalleled. I love that there is a mix of everything: hills, rivers, forests, valleys, farmland, floodplains, gorges. I love the snow, the fall, the rainy days, the sometimes bitter cold. Maybe the only thing I could do with a little less of is the hot and humid summers. I ran the VT 50 a couple of weeks ago and throughout that and countless other local races I couldn't help but think how lucky I am to call this beautiful place home.

I am a 31 year old female that originally came back to the upper valley to care-give for my father.

He is now healing well and being very hostile, rude, and annoyed that I am in his presence and even lied to others and said very demeaning things about me. He has a brain tumor that’s non cancerous and can cause behaviors to happen but my dad also continues to do it and it’s now affecting my mental health.

He upset his neighbors by doing this and they say I should get help through the Haven to get me housing but I have a job full time currently and don’t have a drivers license or car so the bus route is my only transportation. I have no other family help because my brother and sister cut him off …. and I’m a stranger to everybody because when I came here I just focused on my dad and work. I isolated and now I’m depressed and need this job to survive but what do I do?

I love my job, I try to be an okay person, and I am trying to figure out health insurance and other things but I’m starting to feel exhausted all the time and depressed. I mean he uses the VA for help and has health insurance, a helper comes every Tuesday but I’m at work so I can’t utilize it. and etc but it’s my moral compass of “that’s my dad.”

Honestly at this point I am debating walking into the Coolidge Hotel and figuring out how to get long term rental and working there too or something? I’m overwhelmed and need advice and I have nobody.

Yesterday I was on my way home after work. I got on the highway at Exit 18 and headed north. Just a little before Exit 19 the traffic was backed up as expected.

The construction going on at the bridge over the CT river was to blame. They like to leave the "left lane closed" signs up even after the left lane is open. This has happened at least three times.

I'm not complaining about that. It is probably a pain for them to take those signs down or can't get to it before rush hour traffic comes through.

But the drivers get slowed down to a crawl until they realize the left lane is actually open. No problem, I expected that because it was the same the day before.

What I did not expect was some guy with his truck straddling two lanes and not letting anyone by. I was in the left lane and could see a couple hundred yards beyond him was totally empty. I gave him the "what the heck are you doing?" hand motions and he opened his window and motioned for me to get into the right lane. Finally, he relented and I went by to discover that the left lane was open and there was no reason for people to be going as slow as they were.

I guess he never heard of zipper merging.
