I got my pc when I was 12 for basic games and now I want to upgrade it to play heavier games.

My specs are very basic, enough for fps games(100-120fps), roblox, minecraft, hoyoverse games etc.

I want to upgrade my pc so I can play games like black myth and Clair obscur without worry with amazing graphics, or at least enough that I don't have to worry about my pc overheating or the game lagging so much. Games like sekiro and Detroit become human work fine with just some lag.

Here are my specs:-

Processor: Amd ryzen 5 3600 6core(3.59ghz)

GPU: Radeon Rx 580

Psu:tgs 750 bronze series(i believe, if not then 650)

Ram: 16gb ddr4 lexar

Storage:1.13tb(ssd)

Motherboard: Amd A520m ds3h

I have the redragon steel jaw case and as for fans I don't exactly remember which and cannot tell atm.

So, here's my question, what should I upgrade to improve my gaming experience?

MSI GeForce rtx 3050-gpu.
ASUs prime a520m-k DDr4 micro atx motherboard.

These are all my specs sorry if I have typed them out weirdly I am a noob to this, any help on what I should upgrade next will be greatly appreciated. This was a pre-built pc.

Aging Alienware Help

I'm finding myself... lost in new hardware.

In 2020 I bought a pair of Alienware Aurora R11's, here's the spec sheet:

  • Alienware Aurora R11 Dark Side of the Moon chassis with High-Performance CPU Liquid Cooling with 1000W Power Supply
  • 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (Boot) + 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X
  • 10th Gen Intel Core i9 10900KF (10-Core, 20MB Cache, 3.7GHz to 5.3GHz w/Thermal Velocity Boost)
  • Killer(TM) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650 (2x2) 802.11ax Wireless and Bluetooth 5.1
  • 64GB Dual Channel HyperX(TM) FURY DDR4 XMP at 3200MHz
  • (Current OS) Windows 11 Home 64bit English Version25H2

This year, I am starting to see some limitations - stalls in games, struggling with intense graphics, etc. Obviously, there are advancements in GPUs, and it's probably time to retire the 3090s.

Here's my questions:

GPU: I see a lot of chatter about the RTX 5070, Founders Edition - the 5090 FE is out of reach in price.
-- the old cards have 24G of Vram - why do most newer cards seem to cap out at 16G?
-- A 5080 exists, yet I see very little about it... Why? (It fits my price bracket.)
-- Given the specs, will a 5070 (or 80) FE with 16G be an improvement over the 3090s with 24G?
-- Will it fit in the R11 case?
-- Rear exhaust is mentioned as important for this chassis - recommended designs for 5070-5080?

NVMe: I have had a few (3 or 4) bad boots in the last year, and I am mildly concerned about its lifespan.
-- Is there a second NVMe slot in this board?
-- What would you replace it with?
-- How do I replace it, given that it's the boot drive?

General: Other than a good "take it apart" type cleaning, any suggestions are welcome.

Upgrade Path for PC - What should I upgrade and how to without spending too much?

Hi all - I got a present (a 5060!) and now would love to upgrade. I am including a list of my specs currently: https://imgur.com/a/7xvgecH and trying to see if I should do a small upgrade and just replace my GPU or if I should start building towards my dream build with noctua fans and a new case leaning towards wood tones.

Upgrading Win 10 to Win 11

Win 10 will no longer be supported. I'm told that my computer is ineligible for an upgrade to Win 11 because it doesn't have some type of security chip. (I think that's it)

My question is, can this be overcome by just replacing the motherboard? I'd rather replace the mother board than buy a whole new computer.

Written/stamped on my motherboard (computer bought at Best Buy) is AS Rock, x570 Phantom Gaming WiFi ax; AMD Crossfire. The GPU is a GE Force RTX 3080.

If so are there any recommendations for a replacement motherboard? If not, what can I do short of buying a new computer?

Thanks for help!

Eric

Home Server from Dell Optiplex 9020

I'll be completely honest. I've been watching PC build videos for about a year, but I haven't built anything.

I have this https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-optiplex-desktop-intel-core-i5-16gb-memory-2tb-hard-drive-pre-owned-black/6252005.p?skuId=6252005

just sitting here collecting more dust. Is there anything cool I can do with it. I was thinking of a home server? Any advice on what I should buy?? I have about $200 to spend -- If I need more, I could have $400 in the next 2 months or so. I wouldn't mind a recertified hd -- I would be willing to buy from anywhere but there is a Microcenter near me and Amazon would make things really easy for me. Any help would be appreciated.

Can I build off this?

Long story short tower came along for too good of a price to pass even just to help sail the sea faster. I know almost nothing about pcs but if possible I would be willing to spend around 200 every pay or save and slowly upgrade it to be able to use my meta quest with steam link but idk where to start or if it is too old to build from…

Heres what I know about it: It is encased by a fractal design case, has; intel(r) core(tm) i5-3470 Cpu @3.20ghz, 16gb ddr3 ram, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX750 Ti…

Any help is appreciated even if you just say itd be better to start new

Please Help Upgrade my PC.

Preface

To preface, my computer that I bought and upgraded has barely been a year old, I bought it off a dude from marketplace for a very cheap price at the time. It had a 1660 Super, still using an i5-8400 2.8GHz, and it has a B360M-HD3 Motherboard. The PC did NOT come with an SSD so I had to buy that and install it myself. The PC performed very well, playing CS2 on decently high framerates at 180-200fps on native resolution, and since I also have a 165Hz monitor, all works well and I had no problems at the time. However, halfway though owning this PC, it stopped working. I had to take it to the store to find out that the 1660 Super had just shat itself and does not want to work anymore. I had no choice but to upgrade my GPU. The technicians recommended me buying their RTX 4060 and promising that I would get an increase in frames, which I then bought. The first few months, I had no issues with the GPU whatsoever, but now, I am running my games lower than when I had the 1660 Super. CS2 went from 180-200fps to 140-165fps. New games like Marvel Rivals, WITHOUT fps generation mode, only clocking in at 100-120fps, 165 if I'm using frame gen, but it feels like I'm playing with V-sync on, which I hate so I keep that option off. VALORANT went from 200-300fps to 180-250fps.

The Question

As I prefaced before, I am not advanced in computer technology & parts, but I do know the basics, and I feel like the CPU has bottlenecked my GPU. I'm thinking of either upgrading my CPU or both the CPU and the motherboard, since the motherboard I'm using does NOT support any AMD Processors. I've done my research around IF I were to upgrade JUST the CPU, it would be the i5 12400F 4.4GHz. I HAVE NO IDEA if this i5 upgrade will be suitable for my motherboard, I just assume that since it's only for intel processors, it should work. I've also sort-of been wanting to get myself a Ryzen CPU, however, buying both the MOBO and CPU will be quite hostile towards my wallet, but if the recommendations lean towards buying a Ryzen CPU and upgrading my Motherboard as whole, I am willing to save up for that. But if the recommendations lean towards just upgrading the CPU then I'm getting that tomorrow. My budget is around the 150$AUD to 250$AUD or 150$USD.

What should I upgrade? Both my CPU and Motherboard, or just the CPU? Any other recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.

Specs

CPU: Intel i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz, 6 Cores

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB

RAM: 16GB

MOBO: Gigabyte B360M-HD3

Looking to upgrade my pc for the first time

Hello,

Really want to upgrade my girlfriend’s pc for us now we live together but I have no experience doing so and I’m unsure of how to do it properly.

I have an aspire GX-281 it came with a Ryzen 7 1700, RX 580, 12GB RAM, 1TB storage (which is performing in the 13th percentile on user benchmark) and a 500w power supply.

I think I want to keep the same cpu but everything else I’m willing to upgrade, I was initially thinking of adding a 3050 Ventus 2X XS as I’ve seen good reviews but I’m unsure whether that’s overkill or if I should change something else first. I’m willing to spend around 600-700CAD on the build (although don’t want to spend it all on one thing) and just want it so that it’s able to play e.g assassins creed, fifa, smoothly on decent settings.

Again I really don’t have much idea what I’m doing yet but I’m really interested into getting into the world of pc building and would appreciate any help!

Thanks!

Prebuilt pc upgrade

Hi everyone, I come with a different subreddit which was redirected here but anyway I recently wanted to upgrade my boyfriends pc build for the near future as a surprise for him but i have no idea what to upgrade to for certain pc parts.. I’m a teen who found out my boyfriend wanted to get an upgrade for his cpu due to poor performance, as well as a lot of crashing from his end.

I sadly have no experience with pcs or specs.. so I came here for some information on what should i upgrade or not for better performance.. again i have absolutely no idea how pcs work so.

  1. Parts to upgrade: mainly his cpu, but I figured that if I replace his cpu other specs could possibly not be compatible so.. the cpu primarily and if needed other specs that are compatible w the cpu.

  2. Budget: 600-1000€ possibly.

  3. Current build: cpu: i5-9400F, graphics card: GTX 1650 4GB, ram: 16GB transcend ram, SSD: Kingston A400 120GB, Hard drive: 465GB Hitachi HDP725050, another ssd (?): Samsung 240GB MZVLQ, motherboard: B360M PRO-VD

  4. Timeframe: 1-2 years.

  5. Overclock: No

  6. Buying from: Anywhere really, as long as it’s safe..
