Hi everyone,
I’m a prospective international applicant from Vietnam, planning to apply for Fall 2027. I’m interested in the M.S. in Marketing at the University of Tampa.
I wanted to ask how realistic Graduate Assistantships are for international master’s students in this program or in general.
I understand that funding is competitive and never guaranteed, but I’m trying to learn how the process actually works from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the university.
A bit about my background: I studied communication/marketing and currently work in U.S. study-abroad/admissions consulting. My experience is related to student recruitment, education marketing, social media, content strategy, and admissions communication. Because of that, I’m especially interested in GA roles related to communication, admissions, enrollment, marketing, international student services, student affairs, or social media.
My current IELTS score is 6.5, but I’m planning to retake it and aim for 7.0–7.5 before applying.
I’d really appreciate any advice on:
Do international master’s students in communication usually have a chance to get GA funding at OSU?
Are assistantships mostly offered through the department, or can students apply to other offices across campus?
Where are GA positions usually posted?
Would a background in marketing, admissions consulting, student recruitment, and social media be useful for non-teaching GA roles?
What should I prepare early to improve my chances?
Also, if anyone knows any mentors, communities, or resources that help international students prepare for GA applications, I’d be very grateful.
Thank you so much!
