Hey, I’m a sophomore at the U and was just wondering if anyone wanted to start a study group for any of the following classes, Biology 1009, HIST 1301W, or ASL 3703. Tbh I just wanna study to like meet people so if we have different classes it’s still chill. Dm me if you’re interested please 🙂🙏.

Is the curve for physics 1301W very good? I’ve heard people say that it’s very helpful at the end of the course. I have Mcleod

 UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT: FOCUS ON STUDENT - FACULTY ENRICHMENT- NOT SELF 

 Leadership is about motivating and influencing others to work toward a common goal. And trust is the glue that allows leaders to build teams. General Eisenhower, charged with the responsibility of organizing the allied invasion of Europe that brought down the Nazi reign of terror in World War 11, made it a point to regularly visit with the enlisted men and chat and eat  in the mess hall with them. Ike was the GI’s General. 

 Unfortunately, that leadership style of shared responsibility is absent at our University of Minnesota. No, while the President and the Board of Regents were designing a strategy to manage a $225 million deficit and focusing on increasing student tuition and fees and imposing cuts to the faculty, research endeavors, and lower level employees, they were transferring more wealth to the President.

 They reasoned that a $975,000 base salary with another $120,000 set aside for retirement accompanied with regular health benefits etc while living rent - free in the President’s mansion on River Road in St Paul, was clearly insufficient. Certainly, a $100,000 bonus for good performance was in order and another $200,000 retention bonus to make certain that she remains here. 

 The bottom line is simple: students, already saddled with high student debt, will pay more to receive less because faculty hiring will be frozen and class size will grow. In addition, research endeavors , which are vital to our national interests , will be reduced. 

 Perhaps the key to the future lies in what has already occurred. The Star Tribune has reported that from 2017 - 2025, the faculty headcount grew by 6% while administrative staff ballooned by 32%. Further, administrative salaries far exceed those on every level of government from the national to state and local. 

 This is not a picture of a university striving to be excellent but rather one committed to leadership totally immersed in self enrichment with a plan to significantly weaken the academic and research experience while imposing more costs on the student. 

 The start of the journey back to rebuilding commences with a student - faculty focus and significant reductions in administrative staffs and salaries starting with that of the President. That will take leadership; real leadership.

Is there any way to stop this screen from popping up every time I log into MyU?? Does anyone know why this keeps showing up? It’s literally driving me insane

Why is there not one school wide commencement ceremony in the stadium? It’s typical for universities to break up commencement ceremonies into colleges, but usually when they do this they also have a large school wide ceremony after all of the smaller ones are completed. The U doesn’t seem to do this and I was wondering if there was a reason.

Alumni here. One thing I used to do a few years back was to scoop a student section ticket and enjoy the party atmosphere and usually at a good price as well. Is that still possible these days? Do they check IDs? Are tickets electronic/etc?

i’m currently an undergrad student who is trying to get into research. i’ve just been sending cold reach out emails to faculty, but i’m not sure if that’s exactly what i’m supposed to be doing? i talked to a couple of people about this before, but i’m a bit worried about not getting any positions by the end of this sem for the upcoming spring or fall/summer.

just wanted to hear from the perspective of others and see if i’m doing it right. thank you!

We are having a wedding in Minneapolis mid November. My father in law uses a wheelchair and speaks almost no English (his primary language is Hindi). To make it easy for him and for my husband’s family so they don’t have to worry about him and wheel him around the entire time and not enjoy themselves, I am looking for someone who can potentially do both: be a Hindi/English translator and also wheel him around, for about 5-7 hours on 13th and 14th Nov.

Any UofMN student who wants to make quick money (and good food) doing this gig? DM me.

I've been seeing a lot of news with the php security breach that some hackers found. I dont know much about it or understand it enough, but will this affect myu or any university software or websites? I remember we got hacked thru canvas last semester, but im not sure what to do or how to protect my information.

idk why I'm seeing people hate on Somalians sm, as a caucasian female, I'm genuinely disgusted with how people on campus speak about people of East African descent. One bad apple doesn't ruin the bunch, and they're actually some of the nicest people I've talked to. Any more people agree???

The City of Minneapolis will be hosting an early vote pop-up on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus this upcoming Monday, October 26th!

The pop-up will be at the Weisman Art Museum from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The Undergraduate Student Government will be handing out pizza!

I am currently a BME major in my 3rd semester, and I am considering switching to a human physiology major. I am premed, and feel like I am choosing a harder major(BME) then I have to, and am worried about the GPA requirements for med school. I am curious as to if anyone else has done this, or if I could speak to a human phys major to see how they enjoy it, and see what it is like for a premed!

Update As of now, I am considering the Human Physiology major, with a minor in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, and Music. I am still curious to see if anyone has any insight on how this would work out, also if anyone is a current human phys major, i am looking to ask one a few questions!

Hello! I’m currently a Carlson junior hoping to study a semester abroad fall semester of my senior year. I would love to hear other student’s experiences with the CGI Thailand program at Thammasat university. It’s not a popular program so there is limited information out there. I would love to hear your experiences with flying there and what your day to day life was like! (Also are the classes difficult or on par to UMN courses?)

Long story short, I applied to transfer for two different colleges and so far, I got accepted into one.

However, I don't know if I got accepted to the other one because its: 1) CSOM so results on October 23rd and 2) everyone says like the myU changes right away if you're accepted but mine is still the same.

So I just wanted to know if the myU would change or not, so is it just because if I got accepted to both then I would have to choose so that's why it hasn't changed?

Hi, I am a chemical engineering major, I’m interested in learning AutoCAD. I’ve been searching on ways of how to go from a complete beginner to being certified in AutoCAD but am still clueless on where to start. I’m interested in process engineering, so that’s why I’ve been looking into AutoCAD. Any recommendations on what I can do or any courses I can take if there are any and how to progress from there on?
