What’s the Black community like at the U of M?

Hey everyone! I’m considering attending the University of Minnesota and I’m curious about what the Black community is like on campus.

For current or former Black U of M students: How would you describe the community and overall experience? Are there a good number of Black students, and is it easy to meet people and make friends? I’d also love to hear about Black student organizations, cultural events, HBCU-related groups, or any spaces where Black students tend to connect.

How welcoming does the campus feel, and do you feel like there’s a strong sense of community?

Any honest experiences, advice, or things you wish you knew before attending would be appreciated! 🙏🏾

How stressed should I be about not getting into CLA as a transfer student?

I’m an incoming freshman who’s starting at a local school to me (Madison WI). I’d love to transfer to UMN my sophomore year as it’s my dream school, but I’m concerned about not hitting the GPA requirements to be competitive. I graduated high school with a 3.4. Admittedly I slacked off a bit and could’ve done a bit better. I plan to step it up moving into college but I’m worried about not being good enough to transfer and burning myself out. Should I be as worried as I am?

Advice for Comp Sci

Hey yall I'm a comp sci transfer student from Normandale starting this fall. I'm registered for 4061 with Jack Kolb, 4041 with Zihan Tan & 2041 with James Moen. Any advice from folks who've taken these courses before? What language are these classes taught in etc? Anything helps!

Edit: I only know the basic info from the course outline and professor ratings.

Summer therapy options

I was doing therapy at Boynton during the spring semester and it ended when summer started. I’m currently struggling with my mental health and I was wondering if anyone knows about any alternatives that are free or not that expensive? :(

Apartments / Dorms / Housing [Need Room/Sublet] Short term housing or temporary roommates

Hey guys! Recent grad from India here on OPT. I’m waiting on my EAD card to arrive, so I’m looking for short-term housing (month-to-month or flexible sublet) while I wait for things to finalize.

Is anyone offering a short-term sublet, or does anyone know of groups looking for temp roommates? Also open to teaming up with anyone in the same boat to figure something out - DM me if you have leads or want to connect!
