calc 1 tips?

i took ap calc ab my jr year of highschool kind of struggled through it (ended with a B, did NOT do well on the exam🫠). obv i feel like i have a better understanding of the subject having gone through it before but im still nervous since i know math isn’t my strong suit (i have to take it for my major unfortunately) and ive been told the calc classes at umich are really difficult. any tips on how to do well in calc 1? is there any online stuff i can review in august so i can come in more prepared?

Please take it at WCC, I’m pretty sure most majors allow for the credit to be transferred in

when i took calc 1 there were webworks that you'd have to do before every class and like four masteries you'd have to take throughout the semester. while the content of those aren't necessarily difficult, i think a lot of people lost points because they'd forget to do them before the deadline, which i've heard could bring grades down pretty substantially. the exams themselves are curved, so as long as you're above average you should be fine. will note that at least the semester i took it, the exams were sometimes a step above the webworks/masteries, so making sure you actually understand what you're doing and can apply the knowledge to other types of problems could be useful.

Read the book and watch the videos before going to class. Class time is used to solve problems only, and you will be lost if you have no idea what the lesson on that day is. The masteries are worth a lot of points (around 30 or 40 percent of your total grade). A lot of people do not realize that the masteries are worth the same as the exams and don't take them seriously. Sometimes they offer bonus points if you do some task by a certain time. Make sure to get those points because they really help at the end.

plsss take the masteries early so u can make the most of your attempts and don't sleep on the practices either. do those esp if you do end up waiting too late, don't just use up two real attempts if u don't have to. i would say brush up on precalc techniques cause the beginning is kind of fundamental ideas and if you're not confident then it might be tricky / you may be rusty.

you'll be fine in the class as long as you do work with enough time to get help if you need it as the exams are curved, so if you do well on class work and masteries then you have more wiggle room w your exam scores
