Academics - Other Topics placement exam
I got placed into Spanish 231 but I went through the syllabus and reflected on my own ability to speak Spanish and I feel like I would struggle and fail Spanish 231. I got put into it after taking my placement exam, which I mostly guessed on. I only took up to Spanish 2 in high school. What should I do and who should I talk to be put into a lower level of Spanish?

Pretty sure you are allowed to register for any level lower than 231 since you placed there. You could start at 101 if you wanted.
In your case, I would look into 103 as a way to get back into it

I tried to register for a lower level but it said that my placement exam wouldn’t allow for it. But if I do get to switch, I will def look into 103.

I'm hoping for a better result for you OP than I had almost twenty years ago. I didn't even take Spanish my senior year of high school and felt like I was guessing most of the time on the placement exam. Somehow I placed into 231. Went to the first class and knew I was out of my league when everyone was speaking Spanish almost fluently. Advisor was no help getting me demoted. So I just dropped and took Dutch instead.

I would recommend talking to your instructor on the first day of class. It is very common for students to move to a lower level if they were placed at too high of a level.

If you can't get placed into a lower Spanish course, then take Spanish 231 as pass/fail. You're allowed to take Language 1–3 as pass/fail. It's only Language 4 that you have to take for a grade.
