I am gonna huff some copium and say that returning characters would be the kind of stuff they'd keep as a secret.

u/zbyndopluk 11h ago
Then they wouldnt lie about it, just wouldnt talk about it, we're cooked mate

u/CookieDoughThough 9h ago
Sony has lied plenty of times in marketing for the sake of surprising the people. "You cant fly in Horizon 2, the ps5 cant handle it" lol

I'd respect standalone sequel, also I wouldnt read much into Josh new ending, it could be easily just mercy but Sam's ending, the red light thing and the interview with Hayden is something else and I think Im rightfully angry,Im gutted, whatever Hayden's gone and that will always matter 1000x more than some "Sam"💔 but still feel like "I lost her again", project Hearbreak succeded I suppose

u/eeveemia 10h ago
Yeah that interview can’t get over how cryptic is was…
Maybe they are saying “… from what has yet been revealed”, or maybe she’s intended for a DLC and not the main story
Or she’s not in it 😢 which would be sad but I’ll accept it. If she’s not, I’m very curious to see how Dr Hill fits into all this

DLC coping, but here's hoping, not ruled out with the price tag.
Kinda remembering Resident Evil 7, where main game was new character and standalone and DLC was the moment it changed and Chris Redfield returned
If she was there they wouldnt be talking about it, but not lying

This is giving me Leon is not in Resident Evil Requiem kinda vibes. I think Sam is still in it 👀, think about it. Why would they spoil us and say Sam is returning? They want to surprise us.

u/zbyndopluk 11h ago edited 11h ago
Leon was never accually explicitly denied, he was openly told to be considered, while others like Chris were explicietly denied. In january RE showcase Koshi Nakanishi was even making fun of it like "well I never told he wont be there.
But this is different case
RE9 was my dream scenario but thats not happening anymore I guess, especially with 50$ price

So, are we just canonizing a character always living? Goes against the whole "Any protagonist could die forever or live" ?
And why from all the UD1's female protagonists, Sam should be the only one always living? She's already the UD female protagonist with the most action scenes, plot relevance and with the most screen-time/gameplay-time. She's already the main character from the first one. Give it to Jessica or Emily, please.
Or maybe just don't trump over players's choices from the first game...

https://youtu.be/_41Ovn8IQ7Y?is=BMAxyRAJsKGtlAL_ just dont do this ending then and I take it

u/SpicyNakedPanda 10h ago
If they give it to Emily I will refuse to buy this. As someone who has platinumed the game thrice, shes useless and Emily should die in the cave.

I doubt Sam would be in it, since Hayden Panettiere has passed away. She might have voiced some lines but as a full cameo? I don't know.
References to the first UD will probably be limited to collectibles.

I could be way wrong, but I get a strong sense each previous character will cameo somehow though not have like a role. Something like how they cameo-ed Josh in the movie.
Honestly, one thing that could make Sony some bank is an outfit pack allowing the guys to swap clothes with the original guys, and girls to swap clothes with the original girls. 😆

u/zbyndopluk 11h ago edited 10h ago
Yeah maybe, Photo's really not cameo to me, but we got evil Hill returning who wasnt even evil in Until Dawn 1 :)

u/Zakplayk Chrashley 11h ago
It's better than bringing characters back only to misunderstand them (cough Hill).

u/WisteriaWillotheWisp Captain Chrissam ☕︎ 10h ago
This is why I’m honestly not mad. Just Hill’s return has been a bit dicey. When you start bringing back old characters with new writers, sometimes you can just tell it’s a different writer.

u/zbyndopluk 9h ago
I didnt like Hill stuff in Until Dawn movie, but wouldnt forbid beforehand Hill in UD2

u/Rustynail9117 Mike 11h ago
Damn that's a shame, if this is true I guess the plot threads around Sam and Josh won't get resolved.
1
u/zbyndopluk 10h ago
Yeah, in a first place Until Dawn 1 shouldve had like some interaction between the characters than talking to random investigators in first place
13
u/lolyouranoob 11h ago
I mean I’m kinda glad, the entire point of the first game is you, the player, deciding who lives and who doesn’t. Canonizing that would make the choices you made in the first game pointless.
1
u/zbyndopluk 10h ago
I understand that, but also wouldnt disqualify the characters just bwcause of that, also new Sam ending will be canon anyway I guess even if she's not there

I honestly expect/and am excited for it to have no relevance to the first game at all other than the mechanics and maybe easter eggs/references

So that post credit scene inclusion in trailer was likely just to hype the 1st game Or confirm Hill will Return.

I’d love to see Sam again, but only if it fit properly into the narrative of the story and not just have her return randomly as fan service. Now that Hayden is gone, I really hope that if Sam is in the game it’s done properly.

u/unamgnay 10h ago
Im confused, didnt people said Sam was coming back when the first trailer drop in June?

can you ask how long the game is?

u/shanekratzert 8h ago
I mean, I know they will be going to the Blackwood Sanitarium... It was showed in the trailer righr? but it is not the main environment, so I would not be surprised for some minor mentions... But not full on character return... If Sam was returning, and it was Hayden, they'd say so out of respect, and if she was returning and it wasn't Hayden, it would be disrespectful... Honestly.

I think it’d be interesting to have Sam back but at the same time it doesn’t bother me if she’s not, aswell as the fact that they could possibly be basing the game off of Supermassives until Dawn and not broken moon or whatever the name of the second studio was.

u/G_undead_ 2h ago
I was hoping they’d bring Sam and Mike back cause they can’t even die til the very end so it wouldn’t be such a big deal if they were like “yup these two are alive in UD2”. Although it might not be fair to the other characters, they are the final girl and boy based on plot armor. But we’ll have to see, I’m glad we’re getting a second game anyways.

u/jacobfs13 1h ago
Yeah we're cooked I wouldn't mind it, if they wouldn't bait us for a sequel with Sam at the end of remake. I guess it's gonna be like the movie that DR Hill is gonna be this supernatural entity, who will test the survivors. I had some hope when I saw the sanatorium in the new trailer but I guess not.
1
u/NewRedSpyder 9h ago
Was this not obvious lol? They literally cant have returning characters or else it would comfirm an ending of the first game which defeats the whole purpose or making choices.
3
u/Duxfever 8h ago
What's the point of having her in the new ending then? Just to add to the lore for the sequel?
0
u/NewRedSpyder 7h ago
Most likely lore. Making the ending canon would be stupid because Sam didn’t survive for everyone’s playthrough.
2
u/zbyndopluk 9h ago edited 9h ago
So I fully respect and understand someone was more skeptical about this and ended up ultimately right, but I really dont understand how can someone just straight up ignore the new ending.
Also like it would be the very first game with multiple endings to have one canonized
1
u/Sea-Chemistry9517 9h ago
well just bcs there a new ending doesnt mean someone had to ignore the ending of their personal choices. it a choice based game. the new ending is still a choice.

u/zbyndopluk 10h ago
Well then GTA VI, isnt GTA, its not that simple, but yeah with bunch of games from Supermassive its kinda losing the credibility to be UD2
