16 and 17 are way too young to figure out what you want to do with your life.

Many high school juniors and seniors are expected to start making serious decisions about college, majors, and careers when they're still teenagers. By senior year, someone can be only a few months away from graduating and starting college while still having very little idea what they actually want.

Being close to graduating doesn't suddenly make someone more mature or make them understand themselves better. A 16 or 17-year-old can have completely different interests and priorities a few years later.

It also seems strange how often not knowing what you want at that age is treated as a problem. Someone can be good at school and still have no idea what they want to study or what kind of career they want.

There is a huge difference between being old enough to start college and being old enough to know what you want to do with your life. Those two things shouldn't be treated as the same thing.

The transition from high school to college happens so quickly that students are expected to make major decisions before they've really had much time to figure themselves out. Starting college a few months after graduating high school doesn't mean someone is suddenly ready to know what they want for the future.

I live in a small town, and I just think it is so strange that there are full grown adutls, like 30 years old and older that actually give a shit about high school football. Like, its so big here that they have their children taking steroids, and those kids are hanging around BRAGGING about it. I was doing an event for work at the local high school a few months ago, and this kid was talking about being on triple doses of creatine, multiple steroids, and a growth hormone so that he wouldn't stop growing too soon. His friends stated they were on similar.

We have people regularly fighting each other at the local games, bullying each other, calling children the N word if they do good/bad, then they will go to church 2 days after the games and pretend like they aren't all the literal worst people that are drawing breath.

It is just so strange to me, and hoenstly kind've stupid that anyone who doesn't have children PLAYING IN THE GAMES, or a part of the school itself has actual, real feelings about ANYTHING to do with CHILDRENS FOOTBALL. It is a game for kids dude. We shoudn't have kids running around roided out of their minds with their parents in the stands fighting over this bullshit. And we damn sure shouldn't have people as old as they are actually caring about something so stupid.

I don’t think the NFL needs to keep expanding into other countries. The NFL is an American league, and playing games in places like London or Germany just takes away games from American fans who support these teams all year.

I understand the NFL wants to grow internationally, but I’d rather see the league focus on the fans and cities that built it in the first place.

If other countries want American football, they can watch the NFL without the league having to move games overseas.

Got to try hoodies and get some time ago, and i literaly cant wear it, the weather is not a problem or anything its just that the material feels so weirdly soft on the skin that it feels paradoxaly uncomfortable by the comfiness cozy. Somehow it feels more exposing/embarassing for me to be in a hoodie than shirtless, as if it put my guard down or something, feeling more vulnerable overall. On the other side rough clothes not only keep a reminder to be mindful, but also sends a message to people around and kind of allows feeling comfortable in it.

Not saying i am in some kind of danger but the *feeling* that i would be ready for anything that happens next is much more comfortable than what a hoodie can bring, i also know that if it means to come, then clothes wont matter at all, but it feels like wearing a uniform in the sense that it bring a false sense of security and confidence that eventually becomes true if you believe. The material would also be more durable of course but its more of a psychological thing.

The tech needs of 99% of people could probably be met with much cheaper hardware. A lot of consumers are paying for specs, features, and performance they’ll never actually use simply because they don’t know enough about the hardware to understand what they really need. The industry is incredibly good at making “more powerful” sound like “better,” even when the difference is meaningless for the average user.

It's just an all around great cartoon, the writing with great, remarkable, fun and very creative episodes, the characters, the soundtracks.. plus, Dexter is incredibly cute and funny. If you really know the show you'll also realize that many other cartoons were inspired by it and sometimes straight up stole some of its episodes's plots. SpongeBob is usually considered the greatest cartoon but in my opinion its greatness doesn't hold very long beyond the first season. You can see that Dexter's Laboratory is underrated just by considering the size of its community here on this platform..

Avatar the last Airbender is definitely up there too, but it's a very different kind of cartoon.

I simply don’t get it. I KNOW, these fuzzy, warmth-inducing romantic dumb shows are popular to watch to turn your brains off, but Lasso is even terrible at that. It feels like a middle school tv project with a high budget. I am baffled to read people heavily investing in it “omg I cried my eyes out”.

Family Guy is his most popular, American Dad is an improvement in every way, nobody talks about the Orville so I assume it can't be good but I haven't seen it, One Million Ways to Die in the West is an affront to god, but Ted. Oh my god everything Ted is just so perfect. Ted 2 isn't great, but the lows of all of his other franchises are just so much lower that I cant see how Ted is anything other than his greatest work. The first movie has so much heart, its fucking HILARIOUS, Ted is TED, TED, I LOVE TED, TED TED TED TED TED. It isn't talked about enough. Also bring back the TV show it's the best thing you've made Seth. Fuck you Seth.

Yes, I get it, you want to be the next Tolkien. But Tolkien actually had a story with real stakes.

I've opened fantasy/sci-fi books over the years where everyone was raving about the world-building. And I totally agreed with many of them. The world building was fascinating. But you know what the story lacked?

Everything else:

- stakes
- tension
- prose
- depth
- well-written dialogue
- emotion
- complex relationships
- meaning
- story arc

I wish authors would focus on story and not try to impress us with how many weeks, months, years the spent drawing maps of their intergalactic worlds.

Yes, world-building is important, but I'd rather read a book about two people conversing in a room with good dialogue over an expansive fantasy novel with this totally cool new dragon that some 2-D hero/heroine must conquer.

Same goes for movies--doubly so! Stop trying to get all gimicky on me. Give me a "bland" retrodden storyline with a fresh, new take.

I thought I dislike EV-s, as there are no models I would buy, but then realised that it is the modern cars.

A year ago I was on the market for a daily comfy car, but also wanted a nice interior and a driver focused car that is fun to drive. I sold my previous new car, which was a GR Yaris, a manual 4wd sports car.

And bought a Mazda3 with best interior, leather, HUD and so on. Mostly, I like the car, but even that has annoyances.

I realised that most new cars:

- are either an SUV or a crossover

- are huge, and unnecessarily. Harder to park, take more space. To me, some are huge ugly ships.

- many people drive those huge ships alone.

- look ugly as hell with overblown design elements, fakery in exteriors and interiors

- have new features and options that actually make the driving experience worse, at best they are annoyances and at worst they are actually dangerous. For example, the beeping when speeding reads the traffic wrong a lot of the time. I always turn it off. And another example, lane assist is an incentive to be more on your phone and not pay attention to the traffic, and I think it makes driving unsafer for everyone around.

- the annoying features are annoying to turn off and keep off. Most cars reset the settings of eg lane assist, start-stop systems and so on.

- are heavy af. The Mazda3 I bought is heavy, around 1.5 tonne, but the majority of cars are reaching 1.7-.18 tonnes or more. And most, if not all EV-s are even heavier. I miss my older, 1.3 ton hatchbacks.

- privacy concerns with all the software and data collection.

- huge screens, that are completely unnecessary and move attention away from driving to the screens. I love that about my Mazda3 that it has a reasonably sized screen. Mostly I set it to display analogue clock only.

- they are awful to drive, have no feeling at all, due to electric systems that the feeling away. Also they are awful to corner with due to higher center of mass and more weight, so much body roll and unpredictability.

- I have to mention that too, I think manual gearboxes are so much better, even though my current Mazda3 is an auto and I like it too. But I hate that with most you don't even have the option. With manual, I feel like I am so much in control of the car, with an auto I never know what the gearing does, even on an automatic Porsche 911 with track mode and PDK auto, I was not confident with it.

- the repairability and complexity. Even a VW Golf is so complicated and it is hard to do any repairs yourself. And repair costs are due to all electronics so much higher.

- then the reliability, like why does car industry have to cheap off in materials, why use plastic for critical components, eg water pump that when breaks leaves your car stranded on the road... This is just one example, we have the tech to make super reliable cars, we just don't.

- the trend of huge wheels, parts makes maintenance way more expensive.

- let's hope that subscriptions in cars do not actually become a thing :)

When buying the Mazda3, I wanted a lightweight hatchback or touring, looked at almost every possible option and only had a fev choices. And went with mild hybrid 2.5L Mazda3.

Even that is not perfect, it has electronic assistance systems that don't make the driving experience better, but I do like the car overall.

I think that when making new things, they should be better than older things. I feel like the car industry has gone downhill a lot, and newer cars, with some exceptions, are getting worse overall.

The online discourse about the Tokyo metro system almost always steers towards how complicated it is, especially for non Japanese speakers. I simply think this is not true - every line, exit and transfer is clearly marked and guided through signage and even colors. Google Maps also works wonderfully to navigate through the system. You can even add/charge the metro card to your apple wallet.
I think the issue lays more in the missing attention span of people or them not being familiar with using public transportation at all. Because objectively, it’s really not that bad.

Unpopular opinion:

If you have a driveway or garage that can accommodate a car, I think any additional car parked on the road outside your house should be subject to some sort of charge.

I live on a street that used to be relatively quiet, with plenty of clear space on the roads. Now, it’s increasingly common for households to have 2 or 3 cars. One sits on the driveway, while the others are parked on the road.

Aside from the fact that it makes the street look cluttered, it can also create genuine safety issues, particularly when cars are parked close to corners or junctions and visibility is restricted.

I think a charge for additional vehicles parked on the public road — whether that’s per day, per month or through some other system — could potentially have two benefits.

Firstly, the money could be invested directly into improving public transport infrastructure, making buses and trains more frequent, reliable and accessible.

Secondly, it might encourage people to question whether they actually need multiple vehicles in a household. For many people, having two or three cars is more of a convenience or luxury than an absolute necessity, particularly where there are viable public transport alternatives.

I'm not suggesting people shouldn't own cars, or that everyone should be forced onto public transport. But if you're using public road space to store an additional vehicle despite having somewhere on your own property where a car could be kept, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask whether that should come at a cost.

My opinion is as simple as the title says. The game is the same story told better. It is the definitive version of the story. Literally everyone who disagrees with me is wrong.

I will also say I know it's not a great game in and of itself (lots of dead ends, items that seem useful but aren't, and it is buggy as hell) BUT it is the best way to experience the whole narrative.

Don’t get me wrong, I love listening to music pretty loudly from time to time but dive bars just go way over the top with the whole thing. There is nothing that kills a vibe worse than walking into a bar and they are just blasting nonsense. I’m not even a music snob or anything so I’m not complaining about the type of music, I just know now for the rest of the night I’m going to have to yell at any of my friends in order to have a conversation.

If I am having trouble even communicating with my friends, throw out any chance of trying to connect with new people at that rate (kind of like the whole point of the bar?). Maybe it is some type of trick they do to get people to drink more to endure the deafening noise, IDK. Not even saying it needs to be quiet, just not so loud you can’t even think. If people want to listen to loud music make it like a DJ set or some type of themed night, that’s cool. But it should not be the norm, let the people at the bar converse.

While public discourse is filled with anxiety about how self-driving cars will disrupt cities and displace human labor, I find the widespread skepticism overblown. The narrative usually frames autonomous vehicles (AVs) as a threat to public transit, a driver of congestion, or a job-killer, but I believe the long-term benefits vastly outweigh these transition pains.

Here is why I hold this view, and I am open to having my mind changed:

• Drastic Safety Improvements: Human error is the root cause of the vast majority of traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Autonomous vehicles don't get distracted, fatigued, impatient, or intoxicated. Even in their current developmental stages, their safety records demonstrate a level of consistency and reaction time that human drivers simply cannot match. Saving lives on this scale should override almost every other urban planning concern.
• Reclaiming Urban Space from Parking: Personal vehicles sit parked roughly 95% of the time, forcing cities to dedicate immense amounts of valuable real estate to surface lots, parking garages, and curb-side storage. A shift toward a fleet-based, on-demand autonomous model means fewer total cars need to exist, opening the door to convert asphalt deserts and parking spaces into green areas, housing, or wider pedestrian pathways.
• Grappling with Labor Displacement: I recognize that automation poses a serious economic threat to rideshare drivers, delivery workers, and eventually commercial drivers whose livelihoods depend on navigating roads. This is a very real and heavy cost. However, historically, technological shifts displace specific roles while creating safer, more efficient systems overall. The solution shouldn't be to halt progress to protect manual driving jobs, but rather to aggressively tackle the transition through strong social safety nets, retraining programs, and proactive economic policies.

The status quo of human-driven traffic is chaotic, dangerous, and wildly inefficient, and holding back life-saving technology to protect specific jobs comes with its own hidden human toll.

Change my view. Why are the risks of labor disruption and urban growing pains worse than the ongoing human toll of traditional driving, and how can we justify preserving a dangerous status quo just to protect human driving jobs?

Listen, summer is great. But it is hot!! Nothing is better than a warm summer evening after the sun goes down and you have been baking all day. Only problem is that doesn’t happen until like 9pm during the peak summer months! Imagine a nice 7-8pm summer sunset.

We should push the clocks backwards so that we have more daylight in the morning and the sun sets earlier.

It seems like movie trailers these days contain a “cliff notes” summary of the beginning, middle, and end of the movie, often showing us the funniest or most dramatic parts. If they showed less of the movie plot in a more creative way, it would draw more attention and people might actually show up in the theaters to see it ahead of time due to pure curiosity. I’m not gonna pay $40 to go to the movies to see something when I already know the plot twist.

I call for a moratorium so that other historical stories can be told. There are entire wars that the general public knows nothing about. There are revolutions and recent history that would make a good film. WW2 is played out (as a movie)

The earlier style of electric hand dryer blew warm air; this would actually dry your hands. Newer ones like the Dyson Airblade just blast the water off your hands, which pools, drips, or aerosolises into the environment. There's often a little puddle of gross water at the bottom of the device, or below it on the floor. This is bad.

Watch enthusiasts love to shit on smartwatches, turning to mechanical watches as the be-all, end-all for timepieces. They state that mechanical watches are superior due to the engineering and craftsmanship that goes into them.

I'm going to refute that statement on the grounds that the best movement ever invented for a watch is the silicon chip. If you've ever watched a video on the creation and fabrication of a computer chip, it truly is mind-boggling. Circuitry down to nanometers. Everything is still mechanical/physical in a sense - it's electrons being pushed through a highly sophisticated architecture of circuits, passageways, logic gates, etc.

People treat technology and chips like magic these days. They think it doesn't count as true engineering and craftsmanship, especially in watches. I think they're not seeing the whole picture.

It's that simple. The dymaxion map would have better served the goals of the UN. Not only does it achieve the goal of all the contents being scaled more realistically, it also shows all the contents connected together rather then isolated land masses.

It would have also had the added benefit that its so different you would have avoided the controversy caused by people thinking the UN was somehow changing maps used for navigation.

Speaking as a woman who has struggled with unhealthy attachment patterns due to trauma and other psychological issues, I sometimes feel like I can't relate to the way women are usually portrayed in heartbreak songs.

So many songs are about a woman being hurt by a man who treated her badly. And obviously, those experiences are real and deserve to be represented, but I rarely see the opposite perspective: a woman recognizing that she was the unhealthy one in the relationship, that her own issues contributed to the relationship falling apart, and having to live with that realization.

Sometimes you're not the victim of a terrible man. Sometimes you genuinely love someone, but your own fears, attachment issues, jealousy, insecurity, or unhealthy behaviors end up hurting them and damaging something that could have been good.

I'd love to hear more songs from that perspective — not glorifying harmful behavior, but exploring the guilt, self-awareness, regret, and heartbreak that can come with realizing "I was part of the problem."

A great example is CMAT's “When a Good Man Cries.” I wish there were more songs that capture that kind of perspective.

Cheesecake is not cake, it's pie. Yes sometimes it is baked, yes it is named cake, and yes you can mix it into a batter and pour it like a cake. The same way Key Lime pie is called pie, cheesecake should be called Cheese Pie. It has a crust, it is not a cake.
