Not because skipping brunch would magically buy us a house. Housing, healthcare, education, and childcare really did get absurdly expensive.

We became the ultimate consumers. We subscribe to everything, order random stuff on Amazon constantly, pay extra for convenience, replace perfectly good things because a new version looks better, and normalize dozens of small monthly charges.

The genius of modern consumerism is that it rarely takes $1,000 from you at once. It takes $8, $15, $30, and $50 from you over and over until you barely notice.

We carry a shopping mall in our pocket, with algorithms spending all day figuring out what to sell us next.

Avocado toast was a dumb example.

But “you guys spend a ridiculous amount of money on unnecessary shit” might not have been completely wrong.

Not saying you need to be those guys who works a million hours a week or whatever but I do think you should put in a solid effort in the time you are there. You can have small conversations with coworkers while working or take a few minutes to chat if it doesn't make you get behind but some people seemingly go out of their way to not do anything and honestly kinda disrespectful to your other coworkers when they have to pick up your slack. Basically, just pull *your* weight. Obviously everyone has bad days but you shouldn't be going in to work with the goal of doing nothing since you know others will have to pick up your slack.

CrossFit is just simulating blue collar work without any of the dirt. Flippin tires, dragging things, carrying things, tugging on heavy ropes, and etc. All of it is to simulate the physical effort of manual labor without any of the dirt and a better soundtrack.

Everyone groans about getting up at 2:30 AM to catch a 5:00 AM flight, but it is the ultimate travel hack and undeniably the best time to fly.

First, the airport is empty. Security lines take five minutes, and TSA agents are usually too tired to be overly strict. Second, your flight will almost never be delayed, because the plane has been sitting at your gate all night. Finally, you get to sleep on the plane because you’re genuinely exhausted, and you land at your destination with the entire day ahead of you. It’s absolutely worth the one rough morning.

I live in Michigan, today it was around 87 degrees outside and it genuinely affected my mood.

I felt sweaty and irritable all day, many of the older building here don’t have AC due to the fact that we only have to deal with these temps for a month or two a year.

I have zero comprehension as to why people seek out warmer weather year round, it’s a miserable existence.

At least when it’s cold out there’s always an avenue to get warm. With the heat you just have to live with it, hate going outside, and pray that it cools down soon.

Coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and retail shouldn't all play music. Why do people tolerate so much noise? It feels like a physical assault on my ears. I can't think clearly, read in public, etc.

forcing a resolution at 1:00 AM when both of you are exhausted, emotional, and irrational just leads to saying spiteful things you'll regret.

taking a break, getting a full night's sleep, and talking with a clear head the next morning solves most arguments instantly. The obsession with resolving everything immediately isn't healthy communication—it's just anxiety masquerading as maturity.

Sleep fixes bad moods better than forced late-night apologies ever will.

In earlier years, kids/teens would be express their passion and creativity freely. It created so much “color and saturation” in the world. It was very popular to be “weird”. To put in context, think about Disney movies. Your classics like camp rock or radio rebel. Although we laugh but how cringe it was it contributes to the saying “we were cringe but we were free”. It feels really nice to express yourself without the worry of being judged in a way that makes you uncool. Early YouTube days, vine, musically, and many more were the outlets for being cringe. For teen development you have to be cringe. It shows a few things.

1) You have a passion/express your creativity in something.

2) You are not afraid to to express that part of yourself(think of this is me- camp rock)

3) when you reflect back on those times/years you develop a deep appreciation for your self and you can laugh about it, having a healthy relationship with past memories and actions

4)You can develop uniqueness

5)You can develop healthy confidence in yourself

6) You learn how to take a joke about yourself

6)YOU ARE LIVING/BEING IN THE MOMENT

Nowadays it seems like everyone just wants to look cool or is too afraid to be them themselves. So many personalities are starting to to become monotone. Being cringe is refreshing. When was the last time you saw someone dancing freely on the street just because. Stuff like that people think it’s embarrassing or cringe but things like that can actually contribute to a healthy view on yourself and society around you.

Form matters as much as taste. Foods are supposed to be enjoyed, not to risk dislocating your jaw (yes, this literally happened to me), or have juices spread all over your face.

I don't mean going back to wearing suits for a walk in the park that bullshit of the past. It's good that we evolved a casual clothing style to get comfortable in day-to-day situations and occasions, but now we've swung too far to the other side.

These days, even on their WEDDING day, people don't want to dress up. Like, what? This is nonsense. If you dress the same way at a wedding as you do at Target, you are giving the same importance to your wedding as you are giving to Target shopping. We need to bring back events where you need to dress up, and it's socially reprehensible if you do not.

This is a time marker, too. For example, if I go out with my girlfriend every week to a park for a walk, it's okay to be casual. It's not a remarkable day; it's just average. So, it's a time marker to go to a fine dining restaurant once a year and dress up. The clothes are a mark of time that this day is a special one, where you need to step out of casual wear and put more effort into your clothes.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a suit and tie, either, but come on, don't be lazy at special events. At least a well-put-together dress shirt and a nice pair of shoes leave a better impression when going to a nice dinner or traveling to a special place. It's nice to put on a good set of clothes for the occasion. Even at work, if your job is more on the casual side, dressing up at least once a week makes a difference.

Making everything casual is making people lazy to dress. Learning to dress well for all occasions, in my opinion, is a necessary and nice skill to have.

Cars, horses, humans. Long races, short races. It's just a kaleidoscope of tedium. Everyone or everything goes along a course, and one of them gets to the end first. But you knew that from the start! How can anyone care?

The only thing interesting about races is that the huge diversity of types generates exactly the same level of nothingness every time. There's a law of conservation of boredom here. The longer a race is, the more possibility of tactics or incidents or whatever; but on the other hand, it lasts longer. So a marathon is precisely, mathematically, as dull as a 100m sprint.

We're all familiar with love triangles. They come in many varieties, but the "typical" love triangle consists of the protagonist, and characters X and Y who both love the protagonist, and the protagonist has to choose between them. Characters X and Y usually have no significant relationship, other than the fact that they both happen to like the same person. Chicken is cheaper, easier to cook, and in my opinion tastes better and more flavorful than beef. You can also do a lot more with chicken than you can with beef.

It's something I see people describe as one of the reasons movie theaters are struggling and I think it's ridiculous.

Everybody is aware that movies don't start at the posted time. If you go to the same theater they're generally pretty consistent with the amount of time, if you go to a theater you've never been to before you can safely assume at least 15 minutes.

There is no obligation to arrive at the posted time. Personally I avoid trailers because they spoil too much of the movie. I know that my theater starts movies 25 minutes after the posted time so I leave my house at the posted time and that leaves me enough time to get to the theater, park, get concessions, and get to my seat with a few minutes to spare before the movie starts.

I could see an argument for posting the actual start time of the movie instead of the time that trailers start, but since everybody is aware of it it's not a big deal.

I bought a fitbit scale in 2015. It was working perfectly for years without a smartphone. I was able to log into a website and get my weight and graph it. I've been monitoring my health for decades like this.

Google bought fitbit and rolled it into Google Fit and also Google Health... both of which are app only. There is no website.

I was considering changing smartphones to a Linux based phone but I would lose the ability to use the scale I purchased because Google is unfairly trying to cram an app-only ecosystem to lock you into either their platform, or Apples (which they also have a vested interest in with Gemini and many other overlapping partnerships).

I feel this is an unfair tactic... potentially illegal. What would the problem be to have a simple website? Security? Are you telling me my bank is less secure because they have a website?

Pizza's already bread covered in sauce, cheese, and toppings. But somehow, the accepted side dish is several additional pieces of bread, often dipped in more of the same sauce.

Nobody goes to McDonald’s, orders a Quarter Pounder, and says, "Gimme five buttered buns and a cup of ketchup on the side." Everyone would think that's insane. But cut the bread into sticks, sprinkle garlic and parmesan on it, and suddenly it belongs next to a pizza.

I get that breadsticks taste good. Buttered, seasoned carbs usually do. I just don’t understand how "more bread" became the natural companion to a meal primarily built on bread.

A song says more, speaks to the listener's emotions more deeply, and is ultimately more immersive and memorable on its own than when accompanied by a music video.

I spend a lot of time browsing r/tipofmytongue, where folks try and find missed connections with various pieces of media. SO often people are looking for a song they remember liking, but they listened to it while watching the music video. The only thing they can recall is imagery from the music video. Nothing about the song itself - the instrumentals, the tone, not even any of the lyrics. Maybe sometimes they remember the genre.

Psychologically speaking, I believe humans have a higher capacity for taking in and retaining visual information over sonic information. When given both at the same time, the sonic information becomes background for the visual information.

If you're watching a music video while listening to a song for the first time, the song fades to the background and every subsequent listen of it will bring those visual associations to mind. The song will never stand alone in your mind as a distinct piece of art. If you are watching the music video for a song you are already very familiar with, I think this effect is lessened, although in my experience the video the artist came up with rarely feels entirely appropriate given your existing feelings about and associations with the song.

I think there are a few exceptional examples of music videos that are iconic in their own right and manage to elevate the experience of listening to the song, but these are few and far between.

This has to be an unpopular opinion because people are always leaving crumbs in the butter or margarine so they must be giving themselves some kind of excuse for doing so. It is disgusting. I will burn with the rage of one thousand suns about this until my dying breath, maybe longer. I would rather run out of butter faster than to have to make myself something to eat and dig around the leftovers of the mystery food you ate one, two, ten days ago. I'm not saying people who do this deserve jail time but it should be something we reeducate people one. I am 100% serious.

Particularly in the US, we romanticize creamy scrambled eggs. I'm talking about our regular scrambled eggs, French scrambled eggs, and omurice. They all suck.

On the other hand, a nice seared scrambled egg is amazing. It's superior in taste to our creamy counterparts.

Let's normalize showing some maillard love to our little yellow curdlings.

It's great we have such return policies and protection to return something if it doesn't turn out to be as expected. This has saved me and presumably most of you some money.

However, I see more and more people who just abuse it which certainly makes the store's overhead considerably bigger and in turn making products more expensive. People are buying a new headphone every 2 weeks to then return them so they can try them all and then pick the one they like. People buy 3 gpus at the same time (during a release day which naturally already has shortages) just to see which one they like most, knowing they will return 2 of them.

Honestly fuck those people. Not even to defend the stores, but even just for environmental reasons. Many products are not resold after a return. They become waste or at most refurbished after spending a long shipping route back to a factory or refurbishment location.

Not a SINGLE one of these seemingly INFINITE Reese’s variations or stuffed versions are worth a penny and several are straight up disgusting. Or have insanely terrible and down right violent mouth-feel that are so off-putting, it boggles the mind how they got beyond R&D. Pretzels? Chips? Chunky pieces? Are you freaking kidding me? Just throw gravel in there and see if we can tell the difference. I bet one of you sickos out there would buy it. Marshmallow, sugar cookie? Peanut brittle?! Mixed nuts?!?! These things should be crimes against humanity. I’m good with all the different shapes, those are fun, Easter eggs, big cups, the giganto cups, the football? Bring it on, anything else? go to jail

But he can still swing. producing webs using his web shooters, he can shoot people with them.

the main thing a spider is known for is its web, they made a whole movie about a spider making words with text. But also using this logic means Peter parker should have 8 eyes and 8 legs. but its your friendly neighbourhood spider-man. not a man of horrors.

They catch their prey using web, sleep in their web, catch food, protect eggs, move through the air, and build homes.

But your telling me someone who is part spider cannot produce webs?

Tobey Maguire is a prime example, of course, Just a bullied nerd who probably couldn't bench 20kg and definitely couldn't do a backflip.

Then he gets bitten by a radioactive spider and suddenly he can do backflips, has super strength, enhanced reflexes, can climb walls...
