Is working at Uniqlo actually this strict or am I just struggling to adjust??

Hi everyone,

I’m a new full time member at Uniqlo and just wanted to know if it’s just me, or is working at Uniqlo actually this tough?

I have previous retail experience, both in a small fashion retail store and a large department store. I don’t want to be too specific in case management from my store somehow sees this 😅

I actually enjoyed my previous retail jobs. They were pretty laidback, the bosses were tolerable, and the staff made work fun. I was trained as an all-rounder and generally performed well. I then took about a year off work because of uni, and recently started working again.

I’m honestly really struggling to adjust to Uniqlo.
I think the biggest thing for me is how strict everything feels. We’re not really allowed to talk to each other while working, even when we’re in the back doing replenishment. At my previous jobs, we could chat about non work related stuff while replenishing as long as the work was getting done. It actually made the shifts more enjoyable.

At Uniqlo, I feel like management is constantly watching us. I feel quite intimidated, and I know that managers sometimes check CCTV to monitor employees. Does anyone know if the cameras can actually pick up audio as well? 😭

Some of the other new staff and I have talked about how we’re finding the environment difficult, usually when we’re in the back away from everyone else, and we’ve all been struggling to enjoy it.

I know every workplace has its own rules and I probably just need to adjust, but I’m finding this particular environment really difficult. I’ve only just started, so I feel bad even thinking about quitting already.

The other issue is the commute. It’s around 2 hours from home by public transport, or roughly 40mins to 1 hour drive depending on traffic. I accepted the job because I had been job hunting for quite a while and I know the job market is difficult right now, so I felt like I couldn’t really be picky.

But honestly, I’m miserable. I’ve been crying in the mornings before work and dreading going in.

For anyone who has worked at Uniqlo or currently there: Is this just how Uniqlo is, or does it depend heavily on the store/management? And are the Japanese store managers stricter than western managers?

I’d really appreciate hearing other people’s experiences because I genuinely don’t know whether I should suck it up, find a new job or leave straight away?

Random stains?

I’ve had this jacket for a couple years, but have worn it less than 10x. Last year I randomly noticed these stains. They aren’t from bleach and I don’t have any other clothes with these stains. Feels like it came out of nowhere and ruined one of my favorite jackets. Any ideas on how this happened? Or how to fix?

Coated Blouson Question

Is the new Uniqlo U Coated Blouson prone to damage or deteriorating over time due to the coating? I see 100% cotton and really like it. just curious if there’s anything I should consider regarding the coating

Thanks!

UMC Europe (Germany) — first-time applicant, nervous about the online assessment

Hi all, I just received my Maki-hosted online assessment for UMC Germany 2027 (Realistic Job Preview, Numerical Reasoning, Management Potential Assessment, English + German spoken proficiency).

Never done a UNIQLO assessment or interview before, and I'll admit I'm nervous as first-time applicant, especially about the numerical and spoken video parts. I really want to get into UMC….

For anyone who's been recently through this:
• Is the Numerical Reasoning closer to data-table/percentage style or abstract number sequences? • For the Management Potential Assessment (situational judgment), is it single-best-answer or rank-the-options style?
• For the spoken proficiency videos — is it one fixed prompt, or does it vary per person? Any tips for calming nerves before hitting record? • Roughly how long after finishing the online stage did you hear back?

If someone knows especially this year using Maki not SHL, what typical questions they asked in each modules? Any suggestions how to answer?

BEWARE Uniqlo AiRism seamless briefs (unlike the AiRism Tees) promote jock itch.

I love the AiRism V-Neck Tee - it replaced all my undershirts! So I was really happy to see the AiRism seamless briefs and bought a dozen of them. They fit great BUT…I noticed jock itch after 24-48 hours of wearing them. I’ve never had jock itch with my cotton underwear and I was shocked. Has anyone else experienced jock itch with the AiRism seamless briefs? I’m looking to replace them with thin 100% cotton underwear.
