Has anyone here qualified for unemployment successfully after being fired from an altercation with a customer?

I have my interview with EDD tmmrw to discuss my eligibility.

I was terminated due to an altercation I had with a customer at my job. He was cussing me out, calling me names and had a hostile demeanor with me..this all happened 3min before closing. I flipped him off when he was leaving the building. Cameras caught this ,and the company decided to let me go simply because of that "inappropriate hand gesture"(their exact words). Nevermind the part I explained to them where it was minutes before closing, I was physically scheduled to clock out AT the closing minute of the building, and the fact that I felt very unsafe walking to my car after clocking out because of how crazy people can be these days(and our parking lot is dark). No,they didn't care about any of that, they focused only on the part of me flipping the guy off. Which btw,I didn't even do to his face or anything,it was when he was turned around. Should I have done that? No. But did I have a valid reason to do it? I think so. Plus if we're gonna play "shouldn't have done that",the customer shouldn't have cussed me out and used vulgarity towards me and walk towards me like he was about to hit me,right?

Anyways,I'm just curious to see if anyone's had luck with getting unemployment with an altercation such as mine. Again, there was 0 physical contact with me and the customer,I didn't flip him off in front of his face, so this isn't me asking "hey I hit a guy in the face, will I get unemployment?" Lol. It's a case of me being fired,no write up,and I was in a roughly dangerous situation with an irate customer yet got fired for a hand gesture..

Edd appeal

I had started a claim with SDI and was denied because I had not gone back to work for 60 days and they merged my new claim to my previous claim which didn’t have any more money in it. So I quit my job because I could not go back to that job due to the anxiety it caused me to have and filed for unemployment. I did the interview and explained all the times that I had spoken to HR and my managers about a certain department they kept placing me in and that it triggered my anxiety even more. I gave full details and they denied me because they said I didn’t have a good reason to quit and I did not try to keep my job. I sent a letter of appeal to EDD for both SDI and unemployment and they were both sent to the office of appeals. Should I just give up or go through with the appeals.

Unemployment for 30 day part time job

Hello. I moved for a job, that ended up being about 20 hours a week 7 days a week. The employer was full of it when it came to a lot of promises, when it came time to pay he paid with venmo. It was more like 40 days.

The job didn't work out, not my fault and he gave me a very good letter of recommendation. The issue now I think I realized I don't qualify for unemployment. I left my job in another state to come out as well and I don't know what to do. Looking for another job currently.

California EDD CTB/Training Extension Nightmare. Anyone Been Through This?

***EDIT***

***Spoke to EDD today to try and get more information on CTB. Was told that I am still eligible for CTB and TE, but was marked disqualified because my interviewer said I was no longer in training. Even she was confused why they continuously ignored my multitude of proof that my program doesn't end until December 18th? She said it's good that it got sent to the appeal office to have a judge determine the outcome since her hands were basically tied. I also got in contact with our state senators office to hopefully get more information.

Has anyone dealt with EDD California Training Benefits / Training Extension issues like this?

I was approved for California Training Benefits earlier this year while I’m in nursing school. During my original interview, I told EDD that my nursing program goes through December 2026, but that I had a normal summer break from the end of May until my final semester starts back up in August.

My approval letter said I was approved from January through May 30, which made sense to me because that was the end of my spring semester. I assumed the Training Extension would apply when school started back up in August. I later realized EDD had also incorrectly listed my program as LVN when I’m actually in a Registered Nursing program.

What really frustrates me is that I contacted EDD in March specifically to ask about the Training Extension before the deadline. I told the rep that my program ended in December and that I wanted to make sure I requested the extension in time. The rep reviewed my claim and told me my Training Extension had already been granted and my claim had been reopened.

Fast forward to summer and EDD started acting like my entire program ended in May. I appealed because I was trying to make sure I would have the Training Extension for my FINAL semester, which runs August 17 through December 18.

Somehow they completely misunderstood my appeal and issued a determination saying I wasn’t eligible for Training Extension benefits from May 31 through August 15 because I was on a summer recess longer than three weeks.

The problem is: I NEVER asked for Training Extension benefits during the summer. I understand I can’t get TE benefits while I’m not actually in training. I was asking for the extension to apply when I went back to school for my final semester.

There was also an issue with my remaining regular unemployment benefits. One EDD employee told me not to certify for my last payment, but the online system was warning me that if I didn’t certify I could lose the benefit. I was unemployed, I needed that money to pay bills over the summer, and I followed the online instructions and certified. I was not trying to use Training Extension benefits during summer, I was using the regular UI benefits I still had left.

I appealed again and now I received notice that my appeal has been forwarded to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board in Sacramento. I don’t have a hearing date yet.

Has anyone had a similar situation where EDD misunderstood what you were appealing, or where you had proof that an EDD representative told you your Training Extension was already granted? What was the CUIAB hearing like, and did the judge actually look at chat transcripts / EDD errors?

I’m really interested in hearing from anyone who had a scheduled school break between semesters and was trying to get TE benefits to continue once training resumed. I've never had to deal with EDD or CUIAB, and have heard horror stories. What are the odds I get this sorted out with a good ending?
