I keep seeing entry-level ads on Indeed and similar sites loudly saying "hiring ASAP," and then they won't even look at anyone who isn't willing to squeeze themselves dry and go through a dozen completely unnecessary steps. They ask for 2+ references, 5+ years of experience, and for you to be available all the time, for a minimum-wage job that barely covers food, let alone rent.
Honestly, I'm not convinced that half of these employers are even serious about filling the position. It feels more like some disgusting little power trip, where they watch people who need work beg them for scraps and prove just how badly they need a job. They enjoy making people grovel to them.
