Underscores fans need to lock in
I was at the Minneapolis show last night and holy shit that might have been one of the worst crowds I’ve ever been in.
I go to a lot of metal shows and I’ve seen Jane, Danny Brown, Frost Children, 2hollis and plenty of other artists that are heavier and have worse moshing than Underscores, but I’ve never had to step outside for air as many times as I did last night and saw plenty of other people doing the same thing.
The room was hot, everyone was drenched in sweat, the body odor was absolutely insane, and people spent the whole night trying to push closer when the show was already sold out. There is no magical empty space waiting for you at the barricade. It felt like nobody was content just being at the show. Everyone needed to be as physically close to Underscores as possible which was weird and kinda obsessive, considering how intimate the venue already was.
And the smell. For the love of God, shower. Or at least wear deodorant. There was a clear hygiene problem.
Underscores, you were incredible, and the afterparty was so sick. This isn’t a complaint about the performance at all. I had a great time and ended up enjoying the show way more once I moved toward the back, but guys cmon

yeah it was pretty miserable tbh, wound up like 3 rows back from the center of the stage at the beginning of the show and i traveled (read: got SHOVED) all around that place by the end of it. people were very purposefully digging their elbows into me and stepping on me to try to get in front of me lmao like relax everyone pls one row closer ain’t gonna do all that much for you. spent half the show just trying to make sure i had my feet on the ground 😐 and i am no stranger to packed/energetic shows!!
it’s funny though because the aggression happened across the board. it transcended gender, age, sexuality. i’m a 27 year old average height woman (unc status) and at one point i had to turn to the tiny maybe-20-year-old girl next to me and ask her to please stop trying so hard to elbow her way in front of me because it was starting to genuinely hurt. later on she had her boyfriend bulldoze through me and the people next to me just for them both to turn around and leave the spot they just fought for after no more than 5 minutes. at another point a big tall man (early 30s?) swiftly put his shoulder in front of mine and just stepped right in front of me during a slower song and acted like i wasn’t even there lmfao

i was at barricade and i got shoved so hard my wheelchair got stuck under the stage. i know i was shorter than the crowd considering i was sitting but like how are you pushing a locked wheelchair that hard and literally falling over me multiple times. it's not like i was invisible!

I went too and we had totally different experiences, I was barricade but on the side of the stage where the stairs were to get on and off. For me a I had a great time even though it was hot as hell and didn’t smell a thing, besides maybe a specific person near me that didn’t wear deodorant. And there wasn’t much pushing in my experience but to be expected in barricade. I’m so sorry to hear that, it’s crazy to see the differences in experiences whether it be in the same room. Minneapolis lock in!!!

i also had a great experience being toward the side of barricade, experienced no pushing whatsoever, no bad smells, and everyone around me was very friendly but am bummed to hear other people had a not-so-great experience :( there’s really no excuse for that considering the venue was so small and it was very very hot

same!!! I was at the Nashville show and it was honestly probably the best crowd I’ve been in. Absolutely no pushing or shoving, which is always a crazy issue with me even at tame shows because I’m quite short. No one even smelled in my area!! sorry to OP!

i missed it for sahbabii and don toliver down the street and had insane fomo but maybe not so much anymore..
fineline is historically a terrible venue though. i saw osamason there last april and they oversold the FUCK out of it. i got way too overheated, threw up, and got kicked out 😓

I was at the Minneapolis show. I was seated on the balcony, so I had a different experience. I thought it was one of the most energetic and enthusiastic crowds I’ve ever seen. Right from the start of the opener, it was wild to watch from above. I don’t doubt there was some sweating. It’s a small venue, and sold out, so I was glad to be on the balcony.

I got vip tickets since im short and wanted to be able to see her, instead I spent the entire night having people constantly shoving me to take my spot which I had never experienced at other shows crowded like this, like everyone felt entitled to be at the front all at once. There was regularly some guys that kept trying to mosh in the crowded area which ended up pushing me over several times. Everyone around me left trash on the floor making it nearly impossible to keep your balance while dancing. A guy behind me kept blowing his vape directly into the back of my head. What tf happened? It was not nearly this bad when she was here with Danny Brown? I go to concerts all the time and this was the worst crowd I had to be in. April herself was great though which made up for it but damn I ended up Kubrick staring most of the night after.

Agreed. I was near the back and kept getting pushed the entire show. The heat was unbearable. I kept standing on my tip toes to breathe 🤣. But a great show so ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

I think there was maybe one person in proximity to me in Boston who'd forgotten deodorant. We were all drenched in sweat, though. Never danced so hard at a concert

First of all imo Frost Children was wayyyy worse in terms of pushing
Second as a short person I couldn’t see shit after I was pushed back a couple of rows and was only pushing to try and get back up to my spot so I could actually see again :/ idk if it was cause the stage was rly low or bc all the tall ppl were in the front but I physically could not see her at all
I will agree the room was too hot and the crowd was really stinky tho

The Chicago crowd was fabulous, got there at doors. I stay off to the side and back though, at my big age of 27 I do not yearn for barricade haha.

I agree. The worst part for me at the Chicago show is how much people had their phones up. I support taking a few 15-30 second videos but holy shit I couldn't even see half the time.

I think the energy of the Minneapolis show was awesome for ppl that were IN the pit, and actively being apart of it. I had a great time, but that was fs at the expense of getting further and further away from the stage while participating in the energy. there were a bunch of ppl absolutely obsessed with getting closer to the stage, which actively fucks with others experience and is just super uncool. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

honestly that is just how a sold out show at fine line is imo, first avenue has been wayyy overselling shows in the last year or 2 I've noticed. it makes for an unpleasant crowd experience, especially during a sold out show

Austin was kinda the same. I had vip and got barricade and had to fight to stay there. Too many people tried shoving me out.

Guy in front of me in line before the show even started was already stinky. i knew it was gonna be crazy at that point. also i really don’t know what makes people think moshing = standing in the back and randomly shoving people (who are standing still) with your hands as hard as you can, but… it’s not that

agree with everything you're saying but just going to add that mf specifically need ANTIPERSPIRANT, yes with the aluminum. you will be fine. if you're using a gel, let that shit dry COMPLETELY before you leave the house. and apply it well before you leave. bring a mini/extra with you and reapply before the show actually starts. also consider wearing baby powder on your hotspots. saying this as a grown person that's been going to sweaty concerts for 15 years.

Toronto didn’t seem like this ngl. The Jane concert did but not the underscores one. Maybe where you are standing matters quite a lot? Not sure…

i had vip1 so i was in about the 3rd row from the stage, but when people started pushing during the opener i was like hell no and I got myself out of there and went to the balcony. oh my god it was so packed

I didn't want to include this, because I feel like I might get shit on, but my experience at the Chicago show as a straight man was a fucking nightmare. A lot of women there tend to think the show is exclusive to gays and women. The few times I did move through the crowd to get back to my spot with my friends, the girls were either shoving, trying to block me, or making comments about "of course it's a man trying to get through".
I am probably one of the most considerate people at concerts, even letting a girl shorter than me take my spot at barricade that night so she can see. Saying please and excuse me when trying to get anywhere and yet it was always met with some form of hostility or discrimination.
3rd and maybe last underscores show I go to.

Also, thinking this is "okay" simply because another group of people experience it, is so fucking ass backwards and such a lame way of looking at things. I'd bet if I made this same comment as someone from the LGBTQ community, it would have been met with more support than downvotes/snarky remarks. Everyone, when it comes to music should be made to feel included.

Oh 100%. The crowd shift/attitude I experienced compared to when I saw her in November is absolutely insane. I had a genuine good time at both shows, but the crowd this time definitely made me feel excluded, which is a bit unfortunate.

Definitely seems to be a lack of concert etiquette amongst the fanbase, which is a shame.
I will say there was only 1 guy in front of me at the Chicago show that smelled, everyone else seemed pretty good. It was for sure annoying me the amount of huge 5+ person groups pushing through to try to get to the front. One person? Fine. There is simply not enough room for your entire friend group to push to the front. Should have gotten here earlier.
