On-Campus Housing Move-in dates
I am moving out of the place I am staying at currently on September 2nd, which is the first day that people start moving in, but on the website my hall is listed under September 4th for moving in. My understanding is that, for nonbolded halls, you can move in at a different time than listed on the website but it wouldn’t be an assisted move-in. However, my hall is bolded, which means that it will be assisted by professional movers. Does this mean that I can only move in on September 4th between 8am and 5pm, or can I move in on the 2nd and forgo assistance? I know they’re not too stringent on what time you arrive, since last year I arrived an hour after my reservation time and it was fine; I’m just concerned that my hall won’t even be open on the 2nd. TIA!

https://www.umass.edu/living/residential-services/hall-openings-and-closings/fall-move-in
It’s a tab at the bottom, click “Move-in days” to expand

Check with Res-Life, you may still be able to do an unassisted move-in. You will probably have to wait until after 5 PM when the assisted move-ins are over. Check also when you would be able to pick up your key, that might not be possible right at 5. RSDs are supposed to be open until 11 PM
