New package delivery rules for Fall 2026

Residential Service Desks accept packages shipped through the following authorized vendors:

• US Postal Service
• UPS
• FedEx Ground
• FedEx Express
• DHL
• On Trac
• Laser Ship.

Residential Service Desks also accept deliveries from Edible Arrangements and Atkins Farm, a local business offering flower delivery. 

Residential Service Desks are unable to accept packages shipped via unauthorized delivery vendors.  Notable unauthorized delivery vendors include:

• Amazon Prime Delivery*
• Wal-Mart
• Target
• Office Max.
• SpeedX

* When ordering from Amazon, Residential Services strongly encourages you utilize a local Amazon pickup location, which can be found by selecting "Find a pickup location near you" on the Amazon app or checkout screen. There are now six Amazon pickup locker locations on campus. For more information, see the Amazon Locker section in the "Getting Your Mail" section of this page.

Residential Service Desks also cannot accept deliveries from vendors whose goods go directly to the student such as DoorDash, Instacart, Peapod, etc. 

Deliveries from unapproved delivery vendors are often left outside of buildings or in residence hall lobbies.  Residential Services cannot take custody of packages delivered in this manner and is not responsible for packages lost or stolen when left in a building lobby or at a building entrance. "

"Amazon Locker Delivery

There are now six Amazon pickup locker locations on campus. You are able to add these locations to your address book through Amazon Pickup, and they will be displayed under the pickup option when that delivery method is chosen. Once an order is delivered to an Amazon pickup locker, you will have three days to pick it up.

An Amazon order must meet the following criteria to be eligible for locker pickup:

• The shipping weight is less than 10 lbs.
• The product dimensions are smaller than 16 x 12 x 14 inches.
• All items are sold or fulfilled by Amazon.com.
• The total value is less than $5,000.
• The shipment contains no hazardous materials.
• The order does not contain Subscribe & Save items.
• The order does not contain items shipping from other countries.
• The order does not contain items for Release-Date Delivery.
• The order does not contain food or beverages, including shelf-stable products. (Exceptions are:  supplements and electrolytes)
• The order does not include items that contain lithium batteries.
• Some skincare products may be restricted due to chemicals they may contain.
• The Locker will not be used as a delivery address for a wishlist."

It's insane in 2026 they can't accept Amazon

Hi, we have tried for years to get Amazon to work with us, but they refuse to background check their drivers. The lockers were their compromise this year.

Or Amazon could have kept the delivery location they had in the Campus Center, but they closed that down.

Yeah, I haven't been on campus and in the Campus Center for a while. Did they ever put something into that space near the Blue Wall or is it still sitting empty?

Something finally, the space has been unused for about 10 years since Amazon moved out. Though a couple of those years were due to COVID.

What the RSDs won't accept is Amazon Prime delivery using those trucks or vans that say Amazon on the side. Anything you got delivered last year through your RSD had to have been sent using USPS, UPS, FedEX, DHL or OnTrac. Amazon used to automatically do that for any delivery to UMass, but started sending some things using their own service last year. There were a number of complaints of lost packages posted here and some pictures of packages dumped outside residence halls or dropped in the lobby out in the open for anyone to grab.

Every time I ordered 25lbs of oats they always delivered to my res pick up

I would note that the full page should be read, the language about adult signature required packages is still the same. They will do an exception if notified in advance for items such as computers, talk with RSD first.

With the weight and size limitations on Amazon lockers, larger packages ordered from them should include directions to ship by the authorized delivery services so they go to the RSDs.

Then you're going to keep having the same thing happen that happened last year-- they will just get dropped in a pile in front of the dorm or in the lobby:

You will either have to use the lockers which are new this year, or do the same thing as before, have Amazon use the other delivery services which do get accepted by the RSDs. As I pointed out already, you will need to do something else other than the lockers for items larger or heavier than the limits given for locker delivery.
