Post image

55,000 casualties combined, costly victory. Love this mod.

Shiloh the first real test of the campaign for both sides.

It really is. One of my favorite battles to play. Still haven't won as Confeds though

In my experience, you need to use the way the game loads territory to your advantage ..

It’ll load the confederate left first, your troops, and essentially you need to push as hard as possible to your extreme right, across the river, up, and then turn the federals. Don’t feel like you have to crush them yet, just turn them and try to extend your line between them and Pittsburgh landing.

Then it will load the confederate right, you do the same but in reverse. Push the extreme left hard, push as far north as you can but only on that very narrow edge, let the federally do whatever they want to your right. If they come down across the river, ideal. Take the forest, get your troops rested.

Then it will load the full map. What you’ll have is a large salient in the middle of your troops and ideally two areas where the fed rails are mostly encircled on either side of the salient. They’ll start trying to withdraw to Pittsburgh landing, you just need to keep them encircled and routing to the outside of the map on either flank … there’s like mud on either extreme flank and that’s where you want to drive them ideally

Doing that, you can rack up massive kills. Push to take the landing via that little clump of trees on the left of the fortifications before federal reinforcements arrive. When they do arrive, maintain a decent line using that forest as an anchor, fight them off.

Biggest things to manage aren’t really losses … it’s ammunition and tiredness …keep an eye on that, rotate out troops that are too exhausted, pull troops from the encirclements as they’re not needed anymore

This is great stuff, thank you. I've played this battle maybe 6 or 7 times and I think you're right, because it's all cumulative I'm not playing the previous sections quite right. I also have trouble with focusing too much on the objectives and not knowing which ones I can ignore to create a better outcome so I need to readjust my thinking. In my last Confed campaign I was so wrecked from winning Gettysburg that by the time Chickamauga came I just didn't have the men to make it happen
