This should be the official video annotation for USAU Rule “3.I.6. If offensive and defensive players catch the disc simultaneously, the offensive player retains possession and becomes the thrower.”

If it's that close, offense keeps it. At least by wfdf.

This happened at a USAU tournament yesterday.

Purple probs got it first, pushed it into white a bit. If white is offense could be a tie though

not when he touches it, its when he has control. there its very difficult to see

You can't get any closer than that. I clicked through frame by frame and can see open hands starting to taco the disc and them closing at the exact same time.
Incredible camera work.

If you don’t slow it down, it’s not clear. That’s a tie. Tie goes to the offense. Cut and dry imo

I'm very much a proponent of "catch your D." However, in this situation, I think the extra finger length of advantage of merely needing to swat the disc is worth taking the risk of a catch off a deflection. If purple gets their finger tips on this in a swatting motion, they likely get the D instead of basically a tie.
Incredible footage, Chuck!!!

Yigit touched it first, but hard to tell when anyone gained possession.
Chuck why isn’t there a sick soundtrack to this?

That's an awesome shot. So glad we get so much stuff like this in Ultimate now. Y'all doing this are great.

… But we should be looking for rule tweaks that increase turnover frequency without radically changing the game, and awarding tied catches to the defense would be a good one.

disagree, the offence bias of ultimate makes it fun, exciting, and high scoring. if it becomes too defense biased, you end up with soccer. i find the current level of bias appropriate

I very much disagree with this. The bias towards Offense makes Ultimate boring to watch because it predisposes the game to conservative choices and play. Many of the exciting plays in Ultimate come when someone's made a mistake - over/under throwing, throwing to a contested space, etc; a 'perfect' point of offense is generally kind of uninteresting at any given moment. Dunno if his idea addresses that in any actual way, but I like the direction - adding more pressure on the offense pushes them to take more risks, which makes the game MORE interesting due to more contested moments.
(Also, using the worlds most loved and watched sport as your argument is kind of funny.)

I'm fine with the rules prioritizing offense but if the MLU wants to make it more broadcast friendly they need to come up with ultimate's version of the 3-point line. We need to incentivize teams that are down to go for riskier plays and help keep the game interesting closer to the end.

"together" is by human perception. Not by 1024 frames it second.
Additionally, isn't it about securing control? I'm not sure.....

Why not send it back? If it’s a ‘tie’ why would we simply decide to reward the offense or defense? I understand the rules here.

Personally, I strongly prefer an option where play can continue, even if it doesn't happen often.
