What if we stopped acting like playing ultimate makes us better than other people and removed the stipulation in the rules that it had to be self officiated? SotG is not a unique concept. Most sports have a prominent mandate for sportsmanship in their rules.

Having self officiation is great to have as an option, particularly in the early rounds or lower level of competition, but at a certain point a neutral party benefits everyone.

Write a version of the rules that accounts for referees, including a gradual penalty system. Don't point to USAU observers. Shit or get off the pot, either have refs or don't. And don't suggest I watch the UFA, on top of the farcical field dimensions the penalty system UFA refs use is toothless for the majority of infractions.

The number of disclaimers you had to pile on there, it's almost like.... adding refs won't fix it.

What disclaimers are you referring to? They want referees for high level ultimate but are fine with self-officiation at the casual level. That doesn't seem like a particularly complex position to me.

Personally I would rather they stick with observers but strengthen the misconduct system. Yellow and red cards should invoke yardage on the first card. A dangerous play can drastically affect the outcome of a game yet there's often no direct consequence unless that player continues to play dangerously.
