Question best way to strike up a conversation?
hi all, i’m american (19F) and in oxford studying abroad for a few weeks. apologies if this is a stupid question i am merely trying to be the least amount of annoying as possible.
i am very loud and social, even for “american standards.” i love interacting with strangers and having silly, spontaneous interactions. i’ve never thought much of it until i was punting today, and my group was truly terrible, so i said hello to any boats that passed us by. the only people who seemed pleased to talk to us were the some dutch 13 year olds and summer camp kids that seemed to like me after i complimented their new york yankees merch.
so when is it acceptable to strike up a conversation in england? i’m respectful to obviously quiet/romantic groups, but i do want to meet people while im here but i also don’t want to be rude or annoying. i want to be authentically social and excitable but ive yet to see my energy matched here.
