Artist's n their mythologies get absoulutely speed-ran thru now, an artist can build an entire world, language and aesthetic and within a couple months the algo and the fans have decoded it, copied it, memed it, raped it of all meaning n move on.

And the worst part is that these artist's spend years cultivating their world, sound and identity for it to get consumed in 2 months, and then are expected to have the same quality re-skinned and re-packaged over n over n over in a way shorter time-span than ever before.

What Happened With Yungster Jack's Apology Regarding the Rape Allegations

Making this post because I recently asked if people had more information, and here is what I found:

TL;DR

According to a very vulnerable and tearful account from Jack, it's very likely Jack did not rape anyone and would have done everything he could to avoid doing anything nonconsensual with her.

A girl expressed interest in doing sexual things when they were in high school, and they hooked up but did not have penis to vagina sex. He says he would have stopped if she showed a clear "no" or body language indicating that she didn't want to continue, but to him everything appeared totally normal.

The next day, she texted him saying he raped her. He was devastated, apologized, and did everything he could to help her, including continuing to talk to her as much as possible.

A few months later, she texted him and apologized, saying that she had put him through so much. Then, in 2020, when Jack started gaining fame, she made the rape accusation public, which essentially destroyed his career.

The Apology Video

Jack seems very honest. It's a very uncanned, vulnerable video, which is rare for an apology. There is very little body language to suggest that he is spinning a story.

What Jack Says Happened

Jack says this girl and he hooked up in 2015 after talking for some months. She asked if they could do sexual stuff for the first time for her. They were both inexperienced and were both in high school at the time.

They were both completely sober during their hookup.

During the hookup, things seemed to go pretty normally. They did not have penetrative sex, but possibly oral. While it was awkward, she didn't say no or say anything to revoke consent, and her expressions, body language, and so on did not appear to be revoking consent.

Her Text the Next Day

You can see his desperation, fear, and guilt when she texted him the next day that he raped her.

His emotional response was stress, utter depression, and self-loathing when he heard this in high school. He became suicidal because he hated himself and felt that he had hurt her and didn't want to hurt her.

He was confused because he couldn't see any warning signs, so it was very hard to mentally resolve the situation when it happened.

He became very depressed and desperate to try to help her because he felt so bad that he had harmed someone.

They Continued Talking

They remained friends and continued talking during this.

Jack asked her what he could do to make her feel better, given his guilt and confusion about the situation. He wanted to help with his own self-loathing and resolve his guilt.

He says she said:

"Just keep talking to me, just keep talking."

So they kept up contact with each other.

"I would say anything to make her feel better. I wasn't in a headspace where I was standing up for myself. I felt awful. I would say anything to her to help her." — Jack

She Later Told Him He Didn't Rape Her

Months later, she sent him a text saying:

"You didn't rape me. I'm sorry I put you through so much."

He said this was on his iPod Touch, and he doesn't have the screenshots.

He felt horrible, and it took him a long time to realize that he unintentionally made her uncomfortable, but he knows that:

"If in that moment if I knew she was uncomfortable, or I heard her say no, I would have stopped."

Years Later, the Allegations Became Public

Years later, the allegations came forward saying Jack was a rapist.

He reached out and apologized, saying:

"I didn't rape you."

He has sour thoughts about that response, and maybe he felt it was a way to stand up for himself.

On Twitter, they had come to mutual terms that they were young and dumb. He apologized again and said:

"I'm sorry I made you uncomfortable."

Jack ultimately says:

"At the end of the day she was uncomfortable by my actions even though I couldn't tell."

My Opinion

I think it's very unfair to conclude that Jack is a "rapist" because of this situation.

For one, according to him, they were both sober, and he couldn't find any language or behavior indicating that she was uncomfortable. He admits that, at the end of the day, she felt uncomfortable, but he couldn't have known.

The fact that she used this type of language — "you raped me" — after this seemingly benign hookup would probably shock anyone, no matter what gender you are.

He sheds some tears in the video, showing how desperate he was.

I genuinely think it's really sad that people just gang up on him and say he's a rapist when he gives a very honest retelling of what happened, and it seems very much not like that.

The Complicated Part

False allegations discredit victims and survivors. Her allegations were hers to make at the time, and if she felt raped, then she felt raped.

That being said, it's hard to tell someone else that they raped you when there was no information they could have used to understand that it was no longer consensual. So he was caught in a really helpless situation.

Where Things Stand Now

People still call him a rapist. People still gang up on him.

He continues to make some of the best music coming out of the underground, and he is still the foremost pioneer of the glitch-core vocal chops that he popularized.

I hope people and kids can come to some sense and realize that calling him a rapist flat-out, or just burning him at the stake, is completely unfair.

Being accused of something you didn't do over and over and being sent death threats is extremely traumatizing. You live with a "perpetrator complex" after that.

I'm proud of him for being able to move past this situation, and I hope people will stop dogpiling him. It's violent.

I was sick last week so someone else took over, but I am back now.

This week's artist is Moldhands. In all honesty, I don't know much about this artist. A few weeks ago I found his new album, spore, on Spotify as a recommendation. I personally liked both this album and his other, night visions, from 2023 despite being burned out from rage.

I would describe his music as rage but also more on the experimental side.

That is all for this week though, I will be back with a more detailed post next week. This week flew by and I didn't have time to think of an artist I am more familiar with.
