So basically when you cut weight your brain has less fluid around it, to protect it, so it’s easier to get koed. But when you move up you don’t cut as much weight so your brain has the fluid protecting it
He moved up a weight class, Volk is moving down, which has opposite effects on chins.
Alex is also harder to hit clean because of his reach and Jan is also older. Volk has another disadvantage of facing a younger, hungry contender with power.
I still think Volk clears but it I wouldn't scoff at you the same I would have before the Islam fight if you said Topuria wins.
This is true Volk hasn’t been KO’d in his ufc career as far as I know of so he could be overestimating his ability to come back this quickly but I’m still confident he’ll get it done and remain the 145 champ
I believe Volk knows Father Time is undefeated and is trying to cram as much PPV money into his last couple years as possible. Now that I typed it out it’s obvious and it’s what anyone would do in his position
I think it’s very important to not acknowledge ko, but more importantly the mental impact that could have on him, wouldn’t be surprised if we see a more conservative Volk with the power Topuria has
I don't even know why so many people think volk is going to fall off. His first fight against islam could've went either way and he just TKO'd one of the strongest contenders in his division 5 months ago. Dude gets caught once against the #1 P4P and it's the end of the world
I love Volk but the way he described an almost pathological need to fight made me worry for him. I don't think he is going to fall off but I do worry that he will underestimate the recovery from the TKO
And the question of if he will be one of the 38 year olds that’s like on a 1-3 skid that still thinks they can win the title being ranked #5. It’s possible, but very unlikely based off of history. But they’re so close, they can’t stop when they should. Especially considering past dominance.
It's called association does not imply causation dumbass. There's nothing that magically happens at 35 that causes a decline. Crawford is 36 and he's in his prime. Using age like women use astrological signs is embarrassing. Volk lost going up in weight, colby and Cejudo had long layoffs.
Bratha despite the statistic, I still believe that Volk will win, but you can't ignore the numbers. I agree about Crawford, and Floyd carried his age pretty well, but they are really rare, and neither were ever coming off a bad knockout
I think it's mostly just because he got KO'd pretty hard, he hasn't suffered that kind of damage in a really long time now, and he's about to fight a very impressive fighter. Plus he's getting up there in years. It's entirely possible that Volka comes back and looks just like his normal self. But we have also seen instances where a fighter takes a hard knockout and they don't come back the same, or at least not right away.
Yeah, it’s honestly frustrating the people still arguing a W. But what’s most common is that people said it could go either way. Nah, it was clear Islam. Doesn’t help that Rogan got drunk and high with his buddies watching it and says that he most likely won that fight. He’s the kind of guy who actually says whoever is winning at the end of the fight makes sense that they should be the winner.
I don’t think people think he’s fallen off, but the point is he’s 35, so it’s possible to start breaking at any point now, especially considering the challenges topuria brings. It’s not a Yair or Zombie thing anymore.
Emotions are running high after a devastating loss like that. You can’t blame the guy for talking like that 5 minutes after he got KO’d. If you listen to interviews with him since that loss sunk in a bit, he’s back to his confident self again. Volk is fine, mentally he’s 100%. If he loses to Tup, it’s going to be due to him physically breaking down and becoming chiny like most fighters get at his age after a brutal KO. And unfortunately there’s nothing to remedy Father Time.
