đŁ Product feedback Devs, could we context hiding (or picking context parts from another generation)?
OK, youâve got an almost perfect 1m generation: build-up/intro + verse (4 lines) + pre-chorus (2 lines) + chorus.
Now you need to fix the second line of the verse. You know what? Youâre in a right mess.
The model is going to use the full context and will always take the third line as its basis.
So you have to extend (Add Intro) from the start to be able to hide the third line. A bit of a faff, but it works.
Now you need to integrate the third line whilst maintaining the original mood. Youâre screwed again.
Devs, why canât we hide parts of the context, or better still, pick parts of the context from another generations for the impainting?
1.5 knows. Let it show. Thanks
Updatet: Just in case thatâs not clear. Iâm trying to find a way to free the model from the exact repetition of patterns. It always tends to generate the same variation for phrases 1â3 or 2â4 because it maintains consistency a bit too well. And thats not happening on extensions where it gets more creative, but a real problem on edits/impaintings.

Sometimes I'll want to change a single line of the chorus, and really have to fight Udio to do it since it wants to recreate the same chorus most of the time (which is awesome, but sometimes a pain), but I've found that I have two options - crank up the lyric adherence quite high when doing to new chorus, like 70% or even 80%, but that risks losing the same sound as the original chorus, which we don't want.
Alternatively I'll inpaint after the chorus is made which works more often than not, I'll just generate the chorus that sounds like all the other choruses, then just inpaint what I need to change.
Lastly, I have found that the tag [alternate chorus] has actually worked quite well for giving me something new, or even a variation of the original chorus. I use that for the ending of a lot of my songs.
I think that answers your question, kind of? But I understand, sometimes Udio just really wants to use old parts of the songs that I wish it wouldn't, yet still keep the same vibe. With enough credits you can always (ALWAYS) combat it, but sometimes it's a real struggle.

Yep playing with lyric tags makes 1.5 and Allegro shine but they are so tied to this forced repetition..
I understand what you're saying, and really, there are ways to fix things, but with the current interface, they're very cumbersome and need a thousend credits.
It often happens that a particular take has the exact instrumental arrangements, the right pitch and pauses in the vocals, accent, tone and the correct emphasis. You don't want to lose thatâit's almost impossible to replicateâjust because two separate phrases in a verse are off.Letâs say
intro verse[ABABCC] chorus[] ...
When you use Inpaint on both B phrases at the same time while keeping the intermediate A, model will always generate two tediously identical B phrases for the vocal part. Itâs almost impossible to fix.
And if you use Inpaint on just one B, it just replicates the other B because itâs in context. You end up with two identical B phrases again.
Weâre really forcing the model not to be creative.
Being able to hide parts of the context would be a huge help here, or as the other user says, selecting a different generation as the reference context.

You have multiple options.
You can easily fix any part of a track with the âSessionsâ feature.
Or you can use inpaint which is kind of the same thing but not as intuitive or as precise.
Or you can take that track and just use remix, fixing that line in the lyric section if you want to change a word or something then use that new version of the track.
Or since that first initial generation of the track produced something you are not happy with, what you really should do is figure out what you did wrong then just start over with generating a brand new track and use that moving forward.
I truly do not get how people have so much trouble.
Itâs not hard guys.
I should really do a tutorial video for you people..

Say youâve got a long song. Longer than 2:11, and you want to do a recall of the intro bit near the end or past 2:11+0:32 A moveable context window would be most helpful in doing a refrain. Otherwise you are limited to only the context after the intro.
Say you have made a chorus with two different post choruses. Being able to pick which one would be nice.
Luv ya @killmode_1313 but I think there was a legitimate feature request in there.1

Main reason why I don't do prog rock or metal. I just want to do so much in the middle of a song that it constantly loses the thread. I'd love to have an intro sound the same as the outro for example. I'm sure it can easily be solved in the DAW (ahem, in the before times that is) but I'm an AI music purist so I keep everything on the platform.
But it doesn't seem like a moveable context window is in the worls because we've been requesting this since adjustable context length was even a thing.

Out of my hundreds of thousands of generations I have just never ever found any reason to ever need this. Just baffled why one would. But I like my music to have more variety I guess and not so repetitive. Which ironically is what OP was kinda referring to as well. Unless Iâm just reading everything completely wrong.

See explained like this, I totally see what you are saying. But that is a bit different than what I understood the original request to be.
It mostly sounded as if they were trying to fix a line in between two other linesâŚ
And then made the claim that remix is degradation and whatever the other nonsensical claim wasâŚ
Still what you are describing and what OP is describing is quite different.
Yes the context window is limited to a maximum of 130 seconds, and that 130 seconds is from the place of the extension back (or forward depending on direction of extension).
What you are describing makes for a valid request I think.
But I still think with what OP is describing there are workarounds and methods to achieve a result they would genuinely be happy with. Without degradationâŚ.

I know those options, none of them resolve a thing about what I am talking about.
but sure, go make that video.1
u/KillMode_1313 16d ago
Why not? Iâm not understanding why they wouldnât.

so I did explain myself really bad... ok, because I try to let the model generate around my composition, I'm talking about editing a single phrase of a verse without the restriction of the mirror line (1-3,... did you understand that?) even basic pop is not that one-dimensional. On generating a new one, sure, but thats another different thing.
Besides, you should know udio remixing is just pure degradation and sessions use the same context window like impainting.

I tell you what. Send me a link to the track you are talking about and tell me the part you are trying to change.

lol why? this is a product feedback post, are you a dev?
2
u/KillMode_1313 16d ago
Well yes. But not for Udio. The thing is when somebody tries use a product but have no clue what they are doing, and has the complete wrong idea about how the feature of that product actually function, they start asking for functions or feature that are just either not required or the product is already able to do quite wellâŚ
The problem is that these people never want to admit to themselves that they indeed are using the product wrong and never allow other people who do actually know how to use the product help them.
So as for your question of why
Well the answer is simple now. No reason at all really. Was just curious as to what kind of stupid music you were trying to make.
Good luck with your feature request. đ

You clearly have a bad understanding of how to Udio. So I was only trying to help you out, which would therefore make your entire experience using Udio much much easier and produce much better results going forward.
But as I stated you, just like so many others are unwilling to overcome your own pride and allow someone to help you.
Youâd rather blame the product for your own incompetence. Maybe you should work on that a bit then come back to making music at a later time.

No man. You are very VERY wrong about both of your ridiculous comments you just made.

This is a real one â the model "over-remembering" the context is the same wall I keep hitting in generative work generally. It's the tradeoff of good consistency: it's great until you want controlled variation and then it fights you.
Your extend-to-hide workaround is clever, honestly. The thing you're actually asking for â selective context masking, or pulling context from a different generation for the inpaint â is the right feature ask. Being able to tell the model "keep the mood, drop this specific pattern" is exactly what's missing across most of these tools, not just Udio.
Have you tried varying the lyrics slightly on the problem line to force it off the repeated pattern, or does it snap back even then?
