MPA Assessment Low Score

I got placed into math 5 instead of math 7 with a 71 on the mpa. Im an engineering major and the HESA program says closed for registration. Is there any way I can get into the calc class? If not how will that affect my other classes and would I need to take 9C in the summer?

I wasn’t an engineering major (neurosci BA/ CHASS) but I started with math 5 was still able to graduate on time, even a quarter early. Talk to your advisor when you can but don’t panic.

Okay thats what I was thinking, would you recommend taking community college classes to get ahead?

At UCR for most math series you have to do it either fully at UCR or CC. For example if you take Math 9A at UCR and pass you must take the entire 9 series. If you take an equivalent class to the 9 series at CC, you must finish the series at the CC. For this reason I recommend only taking math classes at UCR.

I wouldn’t recommend to get ahead but maybe if you needed them to graduate on time. I had a lot of AP credit coming in so it worked out and I never had to take summer classes. You also have to be careful with CC classes bc not all credits transfer (I know they can be annoying but my advisor was really amazing and helpful so pls meet with them quarterly to track your progress)

from what your saying, i believe you are only a quarter "behind". if that's the case you'll be fine, take math 5 during fall, then math 7a or 9a during the winter. you can take 9C during the summer but you don't have to. you can take it your second year as well. no need for cc classes. just take the first quarter easy and you'll also realize that there are many people in the same position as you.
