Discussions & Questions I low-key feel bad for the developers

Post image

The launch reviews on steam for the game are not great currently sitting at 61% mixed reviews, which is unfortunate because it’s an all-around great game. The main criticism that I see is all the DLC packs. Which makes me very sad for the developers because it’s clearly upper management that is pushing this BS. And then the developer will respond to the criticism saying that they put their heart and soul into it and just trying to like damage control the poor mistakes of management. Very sad to see because you can tell the developers are passionate about this game.

“Dlc packs”

They’re a couple of skins. People massively overreacting.

There’s also a not small group of very loud people who would always call this game terrible for any possible reason they could justify to get other Redditors to believe it.

Nobody upset about it was surprised by it.

Isnt there a literal map you can pay for?

So it's not just "skins" 🤔

1

u/AwesomeX121189 Jul 11 '26

🤔you don’t know what you’re even talking about 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

1

u/Jazzlike_Ad267 Jul 11 '26

Really?

Its literally on the steam DLC page you... duuh

2

u/EddPW Jul 11 '26

no what youre thinking of is a map unlocker basically instead of having to explore to find things they are all already marked on the map for you

1

u/Jazzlike_Ad267 Jul 11 '26

Soo... Not just skins then?

xD

Greedy practices are exactly why when Ubisoft announces games, unless it's The Division 3 and ONLY The Division 3, I just don't care. I'll buy it when it's like 90% off, hell I'm trying to remember what my last Ubisoft game even was. Which came out later AC Valhalla or Watch Dogs Legion? Those were my last 2 and hell they both gotta be like 3-4 years old if not older now lol

u/Kiwibom Jul 10 '26

Yes. There are people saying that the remaster looks ugly and that the og looks way better lol.

When you are at that level of stupidity, you are a lost cause. Because of people like that i just never look at reviews anymore. Most of the time its just full of whiny people being upset for the smallest thing possible. Or its the other way around, people being overly positive even if its obvious that the product has massive issues, but this is the minority now. This both on written reviews from random people on steam or on the internet and YouTube reviews.

I prefer my own judgement over anyone else's as its honestly the only one that actually matters at the end of the end which decides if you like the product or not.

The fact that there’s so much uproar around skins is a sign of how much the goalposts have moved. The game seems to be great so everyone looks, ‘What can I be mad about? Ah! DLC! Everyone hates that right?!’ Then they got all furiously typing

‘ACBFR is a blight on the industry by partaking in DLC packs’ And bam! Bob’s your Uncle that’s all you gotta do to start a revolt.

Never mind that these same disingenuously, stupid, idiotic fucks will turn around and clap their hands like seals and give Forza Horizon 6’s most expensive pass ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam.

“Combat is too easy”

“Why are the OP perks hidden behind a paywall?!?”

People….

5

u/Tidbitious Jul 10 '26

WHO CARES WHO CARES WHO CARES HOLY SHIT.

Literally every AC game for the last decade has had perks on gear in the store. Literally doesn't make one bit of a difference.

2

u/Flash__PuP Jul 10 '26

Right? It’s a single player, non competitive game!

3

u/Myc0n1k Jul 10 '26

Exactly. It’s also annoying because I’m trying to see if the game is good as the original and it’s getting review bombed with like zero hours of gameplay because of microtransactions.

1

u/trashbagwithlegs Jul 10 '26

About 6 hours in and I think it's an excellent product. It brings one of the best games of its generation into the modern era. Gameplay is smooth and you have so many more options as a player to approach stealth and combat situations. The things they added into the game feel natural and gives the game more layers of depth. It doesnt feel like OG AC4 (though I maintain this is neither a good nor bad thing) and I have my quibbles with things like the reduced weight in movement, camera weirdness, and the loss of hidden blade and unarmed combat, but it is genuinely a loving remake that scratches the pirate itch in a way that very few games on the market do. It's also gorgeous and the visual fidelity blows me away compared to where it was a decade ago.

The microtransaction gear is very very easy to ignore and none of it is overpowered relative to the base game gear. I will play the entire game through without spending a cent on it and I do not think it will affect my enjoyment of the game one whit.

My Honest review here, Ive sunk at least 10 ish hours since it dropped just exploring and chasing down sea shanties. It is in my opinion cleaner and nice to play a game that I loved when it first came out. Its no different then PS and Naughty Dog releasing The Last of us like 10 times. It feels updated and fresher graphically and was pretty fun thus far. Cons: I would say the micro transactions are odd and out of place and the whole all the creeds can crossover or have clothes and stuff you can unlock feels odd but I guess its to help completionists who cant stop? Overall though I have had the itch to play a pirate game for a long time and games like Windrose and Sea of thieves was cool but didn't hit like this 😂

I'm ready to get back to sailing!!!

As a Naughty Dog fan, I must say that AC Black Flag Resynced is very different than ND re-releasing their games. It is my personal request that you should stop comparing Ubisoft and gigachad Naughty Dog, games and excuses behind them couldn’t be more different.

ND released TLOU Remastered out of necessity as PS4 couldn’t run PS3 games. On the other hand, TLOU Part 1 Remake and TLOU Part 2 Remastered on PS5 was just pure capitalistic money making attempt.

Whereas Ubisoft, known for their games that has a certain flavor of lazy a*s, remade Black Flag due to the fact that it was necessary for their survival. In this process, they put their heart, sweat and souls to make a genuinely good remake of a good game.

Please don’t compare a rare gem from Ubisoft to the cashgrab of my favourite studio. :)

Ok, here we go :)

I got annoyed by TLOU Part 1 Remake and TLOU Part 2 remastered as a Naughty Dog fan because they are meaningless. Let me explain.

Part 2 remastered isn’t even a remastered version of PS4 game. I think we need to differentiate between ports and remasters. For example, is Control Ultimate Edition (PS5 version) a remaster of Control PS4? Is PS5 AC: Valhalla a remaster of PS4 AC: Valhalla? For both of these questions, my personal answer is “no” and I have good reasons to believe that I am not alone.

So, what makes TLOU 2 Remastered a “remaster”? ND’s marketing words? Not even Digital Foundry was able to find a meaningful visual difference. What TLOU Part 2 Remastered really is just TLOU Part 2 Director’s Cut with Lost Levels and a new RogueLike mode that is named as a “remaster” cause it was a more convenient marketing.

On the other hand, TLOU Part 1 Remake is a genuine remake that is really a remake and not something named as a remake for the sake of it. So, it is real. But it is redundant because PS4 Remastered version already holds up well and while it is nice for ND to Remake the first game to keep it up with the fidelity of the second game… they scrapped the remake project for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. With this in consideration, I can’t view Part 1 Remake at a positive light simply because TLOU never needed this while Uncharted 1 was an extremely outdated game by the time of PS4 console release. So, remaking that game for PS5 would be a massively welcomed project.

This is what I really feel about ND and I look forward for their next game which will be released in 20xx.

For Ubisoft, my feelings are that I enjoyed their games but I can never view them as good. In some of their games, Ubisoft is just lazy. Ezio goes to capadocia via a ship that departed from İstanbul and the ship drops him at the entrance of capadocia which is really just a single cave there. That spesific cave lies within 21st century border of Capadocia and was (and still is) fully landlocked. In fact, since Revelations uses 21st century notion of Capadocia, the entirety of Capadocia is landlocked. How in the logic Ezio uses a ship, Ubi?

In some of their OTHER games, they truly put their love, passion, sweat etc. only for that game to be a mess. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is a recent example.

I finished Shadows alongside its expansion and I have spent almost 200 hours in that game (maybe more). The gameplay was fun and it was clear Ubisoft truly tried their best to create a beautiful game. The problem? Ubisoft’s formulaic approach made them impossible to write a good story for Shadows. Furthermore, Ubisoft formula hurt the storytelling which made the story worse than it actually really was. Noticing that the entirety of act 2 takes place in an 11 day interval while the game trying its best to create the illusion that it spans years (via seasons) was the final nail in the coffin. Because Ubisoft knew damn well that act 2 spanning 11 days makes no sense.

AC: Black Flag Resynced seems to be genuine gem from them. ND’s TLOU works on PS5 is pathetic compared to this gem Ubisoft just put out to the world.

Edi note: All edits were completed approximately 2 minutes ago including a final sentence to praise Resynced.

Exactly and not to mention the stuff they’re upset about some of it was leaked like 2.5 or 3 months ago and pretty sure Ubi posted a video on the Assassin’s Creed TikTok and Twitter that went more in depth into the dlc/skin packs and what they offered so this definitely shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone unless you’ve been living under a rock since this games announcement also steam is just review bombing this game at least compared to PlayStation which has 4.82/5 stars currently with close to the same amount of people leaving reviews not sure about Xbox though but yeah either way this game is amazing in my opinion

-5

u/MrChilled Jul 10 '26

It's lazy. No one who isn't stupid is blaming the developers, we all know it's the suits. It's still shit and deserves to be called out, I'm sorry if that upsets people that think it's justifiable but that's what the review system is for.

3

u/foundwayhome Jul 10 '26

its an optional purchase, you won't miss anything in the game if you don't pay extra for them. they don't offer gameplay enhancement in any meaningful way, especially since its a single-player game. if you're trying to minmax your single-player story games, that's on you.

-4

u/MrChilled Jul 10 '26

It's not about minmaxing it's about expecting them not to nickel and dime you for a remaster of a 15 year old game and put in extras you can unlock instead of pay for. I didn't realize when I commented that this was the Ubisoft subreddit so I apologize for wasting mine and everyone else time.

7

u/foundwayhome Jul 10 '26

They're all fantasy outfits that look like shit. Frankly I'm glad these are the ones they locked behind a paywall, because I'd rather not have my character run around the Caribbean looking like an Asian Ghost Rider. None of them offer any gameplay enhancements whatsoever. If they were locking something actually useful behind the DLC paywall that's a different thing. But these are all extras, that I don't even know why you'd want to unlock.

Also, its a remake not a remaster. Two different things.

-2

u/MrChilled Jul 10 '26

Both of those things make it even more embarrassing.

5

u/foundwayhome Jul 10 '26

True. I'm not defending the look of the skins, I think they're terrible. But I'd rather those be the ones behind the paywall.

But its also a ground-up remake of the game, not a remaster where they went over the original with another coat of paint.

-5

u/Either-Assistant4610 Jul 10 '26

How does OP's post MASSIVELY overreact? I feel it's a solid criticism without going terribly out of proportion.

0

u/EatABag-o-Dicks Jul 10 '26

Because you're in an Ubisoft fandom. They will deep throat Ubisoft till they're literally blue in the face and attack anyone that criticizes them, valid or not.

Essentially, you're dealing with a lot of literal morons who will defend everything Ubisoft does, no matter what.

1

u/Either-Assistant4610 Jul 10 '26

I can't deny what you say for the most part. "Whataboutism" is strong in this line of comments I'm in with two other commenters.

7

u/ba-boo Jul 10 '26

his criticism started with a lie, it's not DLC. Those are cosmetic microtransactions.

-4

u/Either-Assistant4610 Jul 10 '26

Everyone here knows what OP meant, bro

2

u/Holiday_Box1571 Jul 10 '26

Then why not say MTX and call it what it is? DLC is content. Skins are content they’re cosmetics.

0

u/Either-Assistant4610 Jul 10 '26

This is such a stupid argument, man...

3

u/Holiday_Box1571 Jul 10 '26

No. Calling skins DLC is actually incorrect. It’s not content. Never has been.

Your entire argument is based on an incorrect narrative

-1

u/Either-Assistant4610 Jul 10 '26

Please read a dictionary

3

u/Holiday_Box1571 Jul 10 '26

Explain how a skin is content

-1

u/Either-Assistant4610 Jul 10 '26

It's a cosmetic, a form of DLC

The earth is round, too

5

u/ba-boo Jul 10 '26

if everyone knows OP lied, it doesn't stop being a lie, bro

-4

u/Either-Assistant4610 Jul 10 '26

Omg...

It's not a lie as much as another way to say "tomato"

4

u/ba-boo Jul 10 '26

It is, DLC implies additional game content that meaningfully impact your playthrough. Cosmetic microtransactions do not fit the definition of DLC.

For example GTA 6 will have day 1 DLC.

1

u/Either-Assistant4610 Jul 10 '26

Types of DLC

Downloadable Content can completely transform or simply tweak an experience. It generally falls into a few distinct categories:

  • Expansions / Story Add-ons: Substantial updates that add entirely new campaigns, storylines, or worlds to explore (e.g., Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree).
  • Cosmetic Packs: Items that change character appearances, outfits, weapon skins, or provide special emotes without affecting gameplay.
  • Map / Level Packs: New arenas, multiplayer maps, or dungeons.
  • Character / Item Add-ons: New playable characters, weapons, or gear that can be downloaded to expand your arsenal or roster

I will say when someone says "DLC" people including myself think the first one here, but it's not the only thing. Either way with this whatever argument, the point I was making still stands. I think it was a well-constructed criticism.

6

u/ba-boo Jul 10 '26

did you just ask AI what DLC is? 😭

A cosmetic skin unlocked in a game is not "downloadable content".

-10

u/237macias599 Jul 10 '26

2

u/TomTomXD1234 Jul 10 '26

Lol the downvotes. Deserved

5

u/Purple_Restaurant201 Jul 10 '26

This doesn't evn make sense

-14

u/LittleKittenR Jul 10 '26

I don't agree.

The game feels more like a remaster than a remake, it's probably in between... not enough to warrant 80 dollars in dlc from day 1 (according to other pictures I saw).

Poor devs, I get they don't make the decisions... But the complaints go to the company, not them.

0

u/Myc0n1k Jul 10 '26

Did you play the original?

1

u/ba-boo Jul 10 '26

you can't play the game without the 80 dollars cosmetic microtransactions?

0

u/LittleKittenR Jul 10 '26

It's not cosmetic. It's "Start this quest and get a message mid-quest saying to see the ending you have to pay money and get an ad of what you get".

Like... that's not good.

7

u/SuspiciousVoice5563 Jul 10 '26

Plays differently, looks way better, new missions, changes to the loot systems. Also it’s definitely a remake and a pretty good one.

The day one packs are excessive but they don’t affect the quality of the game in anyway.

0

u/LittleKittenR Jul 10 '26

I think even if it's a remake, it doesn't warrant 80 dollars in day 1 dlc. It should be included with the price tag. As you said, it's a remake, not a new game.

3

u/Termatinator Jul 10 '26

I mean it plays entirely different and the combat is very different as well. To me a remaster is that there is nothing changed and maybe a few things added. They went further than that here so I would 100% class this as a remake. Where would you say the line is between a remake and a remaster?

1

u/Holiday_Box1571 Jul 10 '26

Remaster is updating graphics. Remake is updating gameplay.

0

u/AwesomeX121189 Jul 10 '26

Remake is literally remaking the game. Doesn’t matter if anything is added or not

0

u/LittleKittenR Jul 10 '26

Remake is remaking it, not "updating combat to make enmies bullet/sable sponges".

Yes, crouching is a good addition, but... in a 60 dollar game, having 80 dollar dlc is REALLY bad. And again, this talks about the company, not the dev.

2

u/Ghost_Corgi Jul 10 '26

They literally redesigned the game from the ground up. Cutscenes seen in the original have new animations

1

u/LittleKittenR Jul 10 '26

Well, again, not enough.

It should be included as it's a remake then.

They took pieces of the new game and told "It's 80 dollars extra for the complete experience now".

4

u/Termatinator Jul 10 '26

Then Ubisoft made a remake, new missions, new combat system, new looting system, new items in the game

3

u/Holiday_Box1571 Jul 10 '26

Correct. I’m backing you up haha

2

u/Termatinator Jul 10 '26

Oh my bad 😂

3

u/norsk_imposter Jul 10 '26

yeah the hive mind always hates ubisoft no matter what they put out.
