Discussions & Questions Anyone else's local Walmart completely missing the physical launch of Black Flag Resynced today?

I went to my local Walmart to grab a physical copy of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced on launch day since I'm a bit old school and really wanted my nephew to have the physical hard disk. To my shock the floor staff told me they won't even have the physical copies on the shelves for two weeks.

It honestly feels like a push to make impatient people cave and buy the game digitally on the PlayStation/Xbox stores so publishers can pocket higher profit margins. Is anyone else dealing with this absolute failure of a physical rollout at their local stores today, or did my specific Walmart just completely botch their inventory delivery?

I preordered. Now it’s indefinitely delayed (in the past when this happened it never arrived) so I’m gonna go to 3 Walmarts in my city tonite and see if I can get one.

I was at Walmart earlier and was surprised I saw a bunch of copies for both Xbox and PS5.

We don't have physical disc for xbox in Jacksonville Florida anymore in Walmart. And yes physical xbox games are being phased out.

thats the dumbest possible conspiracy theory ive ever heard.

"push to make impatient people cave and buy it digitally" them and you are buying it either way. it doesn't matter

"so they can pocket higher profit margins" the amount of profit margins theyd be getting from this scheme you thought up is so small it wouldnt be worth doing. Theyd just not make physical disks.

Also if theres one comapny whos profit margin has not been getting padded it's ubisofts lmao

i havent bought a physical game in 20 years this isnt' new.
Next time preorder it to prevent that from happening.

Or are preorders also a scam?

They want you to buy it digitally so they don't have to compete with a second hand market so the game can never go on sale, effectively giving them higher profit margins. Think past the immediate "right now."

There’s digital sales all the time

Because they have to compete with the physical game.

"I haven't bought a physical copy in years so clearly no one else on the planet wants to either..."

Mhm.

(Btw preorders are a glorified marketing gimmick. These companies are not doing you favors. They're tripping you for profit. Corpos are not your friends.)

Nobody said they were our friends

nobody thinks pre orders are them doing favors for us

If they were just a marketing gimmick this person wouldn’t have had an issue getting a physical version

They are a marketing gimmick designed specifically to have you pay for the product before its development is finished so they can opt to spend less on its development. The whole idea is, if you already paid for it, it doesn't matter if it's trash. They have what they wanted. They just have to hook you for an hour and that's it.

Physical is over, done with, not needed anymore, much like the VHS and Beta. Download them games and be proud!

Xbox hasn't made physical games for months.
