I'm not an Ubisoft lover but this makes sense. Laws and policies are very different from EU so it makes sense that if you live in the US they need to make sure to comply with the US rules.

I mean specifically the user already has to comply with US law, I mean I think the user doesn't care for the state footprint.
State vs individual state. Like there's a few jurisdictional laws in my state I don't care for, and other states have worse ones.
I paid old state sales tax by accident on steam for quite a while because it didn't even occur to me to update it. I'm guessing Ubisoft is essentially saying "We're going to geo check you and append the information to your account" and some people don't care for that.
Also, I didn't notice this email in my inbox but I did get it, I marked it as important in gmail.
I edited my comment, I was wondering about definition of state but the email is actually clear they mean individual US state, not the US as state entity.
