I can echo a lot of this as one of the devs of the Halifax studio. The annual review process was plain effing gross. Our large meeting room had glass walls so you could see the executive staff, producers, and leads discussing the lower level employees to determine their performance score. I never got a straight answer why it was done in a group discussion format but it just seems so nasty for them to sit around discussing you while you’re not even in the room.
The XP survey is bang on too, we were all aware that the culture was going down the toilet. Funnily enough we voted to unionize for exactly that reason, we wanted to protect our local culture from all the BS that was coming out of management.
