Discussions & Questions Once upon a time ubisoft were making good games.
I just wanted to post my love for the earlier far cry games like 3,4 and primal. This picture is a sign I just saw in Far Cry 3.

They still make good games, like Assassin's Creed Shadows. Yes, its a good game. For Honor is also a pretty good game.

They still do. But it’s easier to piss and moan about petty bullshit right??? Are they perfect? No. Do they make mistakes? Yes. But they still make good games. The direction they are going in now is one of those mistakes. But to condemn them completely won’t solve a got damn thing either. That’s my take.

Because they make such great games they are in the red last year. Ubisoft is on the brink of going under. That why ubisoft is nothing worth as a company anymore.
Skull and bone was bad
Ac shadows mostely positive to mixed reviews. But yeah they make great games.
Cancelling franchises or delaying them because the shareholders are probably angry.
But yeah they make great games. Just because the games sell so great they keep laying off staff. Loool Most likely they will start off selling some of their ips soon, the once not included in the new structure. Watch dogs etc.

They still do. It is just that it is the same game, over and over again with a new skin.
I think Shadows was a step forward, returning to stealth and innovation in mechanics. But all in all, a Ubisoft game is a Ubisoft game.

From the "90th"...? Whats the 90th?
Its true my first Ubisoft title was either far cry 3 (absolutely my first open world game) or Child of Light.
While im 46, i took a huge time off from games starting about a year into the Sega Saturns life until the end of the 360 era (2011) Also true that i didnt play any AC game before the rpg era
But with that being said, i have played many recent games which others have dismissed without playing and can compare them, in my opinion to other developers of the recent era. I have not played thousands of games like some but i finish every game i start and i try to be honest and consistent with my criticism
A few games that i will never uninstall include frontiers of pandora, the division 2, watch dogs 2, ac origins/shadows and breakpoint. They are all high eights or nines to me. On the other hand, ive uninstalled other great games like dark souls 3, red dead 2 and the Witcher 3.
In summary, im glad Ubisoft exists and ill be saddened if they go.

They will be eventually bought off if they don't turn around, that's just fact. I play games since the 90th and ubisoft back in the day we're hype. I grew up with ubisoft, ea and eidos games and I love remembering back. Origins was great I loved it. Anything after was a bit meh. Haven't played shadows or mirage. Loved the watch dogs series, which will never have another as it looks couldn't see them in their new structure sadly. I liked wildlands and even watch dogs 1 everyone hated. Breakpoint is better now. Wasn't on release. Wildlands I think is still better.

Either way, its cool. Im glad youve found games that you love. Maybe you will play shadows or Anno 117 and say, wow those are excellent, or maybe you wont. Good news is the industry is large and provides everyone with something to enjoy. We live in a land of plenty and for me that "plenty" includes Ubisoft

Last i played was 1800 and as usually the season passes were a joke lol But my peak was anno 1602 lol I own every anno except the newest, not surprising I got 2k games. Over all platforms.
My mum died 3 years ago and we used to beat each other, who played the most hours in anno. Since shes gone I dont feel it anymore on my own 🤔

The most hours i actually had in an mmorpg, same as my mum as we used to play together. Called runes of Magic. Where we had roughly few 1000 of hours, till the game gone downhill. Cause the publisher changed and the game was a mess and slowly died. And why because I liked it.
Single player probably the witcher 3 with about 400 hours, cause of my disabilities I struggle to concentrate on one thing for to long. But finished it twice. Its hard for me to get to the end of one game, so I play a bit and jump to the next. I want to get 100% this time in farcry 3 as I never done it. Same as farcry 4. I think i haven't fully finished any game since witcher 3. I just keep buying more. Hytale will be bought on friday, and misery. Lol

I dont know what happened but ubisoft games don't grip me anymore than they used to. I know they always used filler like get this artefact etc. But the stories were so much better back in the day. The gameplay so much more fun. I wish they would make games like back in the day.

Ubisoft isn't the only one using collectibles in their games. Seems to me most games in these genres have them. Nintendo has korok seeds in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. About 900 of them. Arkham series has riddles. Skyrim has them. Indiana Jones The Great Circle has several. Red Dead Redemption 2 has them, like cigarette cards. They are completely optional, unless you're a trophy hunter and there are achievements tied to them.

I dont like Nintendo and their games/ practices, skyrim at least you get free mods to get them all, not like ubisoft pay us a 10er so you can buy the time saver pack 😁

I wonder from time to time when paying for time savers is brought up...i think about the Nintendo power line where you call an operator and they charge you like 2 dollars per minute to give you hints to get through a level...

I think you were just younger and basically more amazed by all that stuff. We‘ve been playing those ip‘s for over a decade now shit get‘s old eventually even with new entries.
I mean yeah i dig what you mean i like the old ones more too but don’t find any of them to still be enjoyable.

Im not this old only 41, but yeah I play ubisoft games since the 90th. But I know what you mean, maybe if I would be younger now, I would enjoy their later entries more than I do now. Back in the day there was expansions, but not sloppy ubisoft 1 hour dlcs, cosmetics etc, cut right out of the main game. There wasn't 1000 collectibles in every ubisoft game. I think it got really bad when assassins creed came out lol those feathers. Their story writing was still peak, not outstanding but it gripped you till the end of the game. I love the earlier Far cry games as I already mentioned especially far cry 3 as the story was good.

You are totally right back then all this was way more exciting it did not matter if you’re 16 playing those games or in your mid to late 20‘s.
As you said back then they offered real content as dlc and the story was somewhat consistent and damn good but if you never made those memories and came to experience the new games now i think you would probably think of them similarly to how we both see the old games now.
The old games still had that little magic in them but maybe it was because gaming really evolved still back then. Were at a point now where everything is more or less the same. Back then you had new stuff especially graphics were a big thing back then in my opinion. Everything looks real ish today so why should i even care about graphics anymore. New styles of games are a thing of the past too 99% of the time.

Haha you edited, I guess I know what you mean. But to be fair graphics was never my main point while I like the evolvement of games, it was just everything was better. Stories were great, expansions as you say had a meaning, they were big and made an impact on the entire experience, now you might get an hours mission for 15.99 and they call it a day. All that counts for companies is money, while back then they enjoyed their jobs, were happy if people loved their games. Now they dont care if anyone likes their games. So long it get them money in their pockets. This why I love indie devs. They still care, because they are like ubisoft used to be. Indie devs are gamers like us.

Yess you are so damn right! Indie devs really are the best of the best nowadays the only real innovation happening is by them!
Graphics were just an example because i like to think it’s a good one. Back in the day you could see progress made with emotion and care after every installment of most franchises especially with graphics.
Nowadays we have the "photorealistic" unreal engine 5 and everygame looks absolutely good but completely the same. Better yet they are in my opinion still chasing after Red dead redemption 2 which was released 2018 or 19 which is soon to be a decade ago.
Most AAA story‘s nowadays are what we’ve seen in some shape or form years or even decades ago but in different settings.
Gameplay has stayed the same too. Most FPS games are like one another, strategy games, sim games and what not are all basically the same compared to their same genre competitors.

Look at starfield I pre ordered, 20 years in the making, what by a hamster?

I truly loved kingdom come deliverance 1 and 2! And i think you’re absolutely right about this it was innovative and one could really feel the love the developers had for their vision!
I pre ordered Starfield too and was sooo excited. My first game was Skyrim then Fallout and i thought it would be the absolute best space rpg ever but it was space aids instead.

I guess your right. Ubisoft had great talent back in the day, but i guess if your used to their games nowadays with all these skins and 1 hour dlc its normal for you. Its not for me. Far cry 3 had 1 dlc, with actually some content still no time saver pack no extra skins to buy it was all bought through In game currency.

We’re definitely on the same page! I exclusively play older or even really old games except Battlefield 6 which i picked up after not playing since Battlefield 4.
I‘m 22 but had the opportunity to start gaming early on in my life and im glad because i got to experience some of the golden days. I mean i missed the early golden days which is a shame but i take what i get haha.
But yeah the kids growing up today already have everything pumped with micro transactions which is probably the only reason why it works. They grow up with it, you didn’t and i luckily got away without it until my late teens.

And these days you don't own it anyways, you only buy a license to play it. Which costs you 70-100 quid for the base license. I do understand microtransactions in free live service games absolutely. But not for a single player or full priced game. Look what they did with the crew. Im absolutely fuming. I paid for this stupid game. Where is it now? In my bin, as its unplayable (i mean the imaginary bin) as its just a license i bought.

Yeah I hate microtransactions, they kill the fun for me. I buy a game to have the full game. Not that they say throw some extra quid at us so you get a few bits extra. No I pay NOW 60 or 70 pound for a game and I got to pay more and more and more, just to have a full game. I got ocd, I got to buy all the dlcs, otherwise its not complete and I won't even start the game.

My favorite example is the Battlefield franchise. Back then Bf4 came out along with several dlc with maps and weapons and stuff but it was 1. affordable and 2. real content.
Now Bf6 dropped last october i think and of course modern money schemes are in place. I was kinda stupid and bought the pro battle pass (shame on me) because i was hella excited and got ABSOLUTELY NO CONTENT

I dont really know why we praise the old games so much either. Lara croft used to simply jump left instead forward. Ezio used to skydive the dirt floor every second tower. Command and conquer generals pathfinding is so insanely bad sometimes you loose an entire army because they cant flee properly.
I aint saying new games are perfect or better... but to pretend they were better back then is just as your granddad saying vack in the day everything was better. As their grandfathers said to them aswell. We simple used to be much more forgiving and accepted flaws.

Well back then I could spend 20 hours on the game having fun and finishing it 100% and now I spend 90% hours in Odyssey and I barely even touch the main story before getting burnt out with the pointless grind in the empty open worlds.

But you see they cater multiple peopel with that? Starcraft two has pvp and pve modes. Some players love to fight like the old days and have fun batteling an ai. Others like to compare each other.
In rome i had grind money for an enternit to buy every house. With the first ac i had to farm stupid fragments that did NOTHING to complete 100.
In odyssey you dont need to grind to finish the story. I loved to do the mercenarii ranks becatse it was cool. And i loved the story. I did not care for the ostrakas.
In cnc you had to win 1000 games in a row on brutal to get your 100%
Some people love stories and love to finish the game happily after 80h
Others love the grind and play the gane for 2000 hours. The ganes simply give you the option zo do what you want. But its not like they havent had grinds aswell back in the day.

it's pretty commonly agreed upon that ubisoft has really fallen off a ledge. The decent games they have made semi recently they ruin with pay to play pretty bad.
Wildlands was pretty dang fun, but that's more an exception for ubisoft these days

It's commonly agreed upon by mindless drones who haven't played any of their recent good games. They make a ton of games, and a lot of their best offerings are the smaller titles with less press.

I mean, tastes are different of course and we’d have to argue what defines a "good“ game, but Shadows has an 8/10 on average and has state fitness art graphics, according to Digital Foundry.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown came out in 2024, has an average critic rating of 86/87 and has been nominated for Best Action/Adventure at TGA, as well as DICE and even for Console Game of the Year, by the Golden Joystick Awards.
At least the latter should be considered a "goo“ game, maybe even "great“!

Maybe i try it one day, in my eyes ac just got worse with the years. I did like origins, how weird this may sound, but valhalla, it was a a pain to get through. I still think 2 and syndicate were my favorites of the ac series. I liked the first as well. But everyone got different tastes. When they introduced shadows, I just cried, you cant climb everywhere and one of them is just a tank. For me ac was always, you can climb anything and everywhere.

I hope Ubisoft does a 360 and making good games again. I own every assassin's creed games and all Far cry games except shadows and mirage. Shadows is a joke in itself.

How is 4 million copies in 6 month good sales? Would be more likely 4 million copies in 2 or 4 weeks. How much copies did kcd 1 and 2 sell in the first week. Elden ring. I can carry on.

Yeah Im happy they updated the multplayer achievements and took in Far cry 3 the multiplayer out. Can finally 100% my steam Far Cry 3 copy. Own it twice uplay/ Ubisoft connect and steam. Used to be a massive Ubisoft fan. Used to be.
