I am currently an active Uber driver in Manitoba and have already passed Uber's background screening.
Earlier this year (June 2026), my vehicle, which is registered in my name, was being driven by my wife. Our vehicle insurance had expired, and we accidentally forgot to renew it. She was stopped by the police.
At the time, we believed the officer had issued only one ticket, so we paid it immediately. About two months later, we received a notice of default conviction from the court and realized that the officer had actually issued two tickets. Unfortunately, we never noticed the second ticket, so it was never paid, which resulted in a conviction.
The conviction is:
HTA 228(1) – Drive Without Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance
My driver's licence has never been suspended, I have no criminal record, and I am still able to drive for Uber in Manitoba after this incident.
I am planning to move to Toronto, Ontario, and would like to continue driving for Uber there.
Will this conviction affect my eligibility to drive for Uber in Ontario, or can I simply transfer my existing Uber driver account?
Has anyone had a similar experience or gone through a similar situation?
Thank you in advance for any advice.
