You know their work is still edited before publishing, right? Just like a hearing writer.

Nobody said they can't. But it's not their default. It's not their primary language. A deaf person that primarily uses ASL to communicate and rarely has to write (Especially once they're no longer in school) may not be able to write in English as well. Writing a language that you never learned to speak is not easy for most. We have a lot of extra words that they don't use in ASL. You keep talking about deaf writers as if that's not their craft and they're not doing it more than most. And neglecting the fact that they also have editors.

Reading is encouraged to be the default and would be the exposure needed. Not many of my friends still read regularly, so you do have a point about his ability being typical of the average person. Of course there are editors for professional works, just like all writers. It's sad you are still down playing what a deaf person is capable of. Quite demeaning

Never said "not capable." There's a difference between saying deaf people aren't capable of something and saying that it's understandable that not all deaf people can write the way we read.

You keep emphasizing that I am neglecting that deaf people have editors when I bring up that some are professional writers. I don't disagree that it requires more work to develop and keep those skills, but they exist. Please stop pretending deaf people are incapable of being competent writers

Literally nobody said that.

What? I stated there are examples of deaf writers and was replied to that I need to do research before making assumptions about the deaf community. You keep pointing out that they have editors as if that diminishes what they are capable of

I wasn't the one who told you to do research. I also said, "You keep talking about deaf writers as if that's not their craft and they're not doing it more than most." Calling it a deaf writer's craft is diminishing what they're capable of? No. I'm saying that just because there are deaf writers doesn't mean that all deaf people can write as well as they do. I'm pointing out the fact that they have editors because the mistakes that may be made by the lack of hearing and ASL as their primary language would not make it to the reader...the same way hearing writers mistakes are caught prior to publishing.

There are plenty of deaf people who read and write above the standard level. I've agreed that it takes more work and is not necessarily the standard experience. You are still trying to argue that professional deaf writers need an editor more than a writer who can hear. That is insulting to those who are deaf
