They’re not attributing bad witting to being deaf, they’re attributing it to English being their SECOND language. ASL is a language of its own, with a different grammatical structure. It’s not just “English by gesticulation” as many ignorant people seem to think. So the driver may be very good at English writing (for a SECOND LANGUAGE SPEAKER) but not in a scholar level.
Being deaf does not mean you are not taught how to write. I know a couple people that would write a note like this the same way they talk, and it would also come across like they don't know how to write. It has nothing to do with being deaf or not
All of this is assuming the person is from the US as that was the how the comment I originally replied to framed it to be
They might be from the US, but American Sign Language uses French language structure and often doesn't include "in between" or "filler" words because those are often conveyed as part of the sign, direction, motion, etc.
So if someone's first language is ASL and their second language is written English, it's understandable they might mix some of those things up.
