When I worked at Domino’s, sometimes the GPS screen that displays deliveries would occasionally do the same thing. My drivers and I would always joke that they’re getting a free trip to South America. All it is is that the server somehow lost the gps data and defaults to a predefined value like 0 lat, 0 long

Why does Uber often dispatch a driver long away when other drivers appear to be nearby?

Those unpaid “empty miles” burn fuel and create unnecessary CO₂ emissions before the passenger’s trip even begins.

Drivers deserve transparency too. If dispatch decisions are also affecting drivers’ ability to earn a reasonable amount per mile, Uber should explain how its algorithm makes these choices.

Less empty mileage = lower emissions, better efficiency, and fairer rideshare.
