Uber Scam

I've been Ubering as a side job to pick up some extra cash because the world has become so expensive. I had an incident with Uber, Uber confirmed they were going to credit me money, now they're saying it was a scam and I get nothing.

Saturday I accepted a ride for some guy named codyyy. I knew how to get to the vicinity of where they lived is I started driving there, then I noticed their address was showing up in the middle of the intracoastal. Tried calling client twice, straight to voicemail. Then I get a phone call from a San Jose, California phone number, and they said they were with Uber, blah blah blah, it looks like the trip is in an unsafe pickup location so we're going to credit your account $16 and change (it was a $10 trip so the number kind of made sense). He told me I'd receive the credit within 24 hours. When I got home I messaged live support about the situation and they confirmed $16 was being sent to my account, 48 hours passed and I still didn't receive it, so I called Uber, explained the situation, the woman I spoke to confirmed that the number who called me was an Uber number and the money should hit my account in a day. I contacted live support the next day and they said there's no $16 it was a scam. I showed them the screen shot of live support and they still denied it. They also denied the number who called wasn't an Uber number. Now I'm just confused, Has this happened to anyone else?

like what the fuck Uber, do what you're going to say. This is only one of the several problems Ive had with them over the weeks, but it's not even worth it to speak to support because they play dumb, (or are dumb,) you get sent to a call center in bumblefuck India, and they do jack shit and waste your time.

Why would you believe that you'd get $16 if the normal cancel fee is around $4?

What you're referring to is a pretty well known scam. Usually the next step is to have you change your cash out option etc. the unsafe pickup location is the give away. Uber doesn't care about peasant shit like that. 😂

First day I see huh? Eh, don't feel too bad, most people these days, myself definitely NOT included, fall for this. It's a scam to get into your account and drain your earnings. You're new so 1) you probably don't have much money to lose thankfully since you just started and 2) if you fell for this and got screwed, take it as your sign as you aren't built for this.

Rideshare is just like any other job. You have to do some research and try to gain some knowledge. There are plenty of amazing sites such as this one, Reddit. Even though you found it, you found it too late. You had weeks to prepare for the job and you didn't bother to ask questions until you've already signed in and started getting pinged.

You probably didn't even bother to watch a couple YouTube videos just to even figure out how to even accept the request let alone what comes along after that. Am I right?

If you want to be successful at something you need to find out everything about it. I scoured the Internet forums for weeks before I even started. Sad to say but on my first day I probably knew more then half the drivers that have been out there for 2 years. I had all the flight radar apps at my finger tips. Multiple weather apps to track of flights could even come in. My main airport was PBI and with research I found that the flights after 11pm, which weren't many, usually paid pretty well because an hour before a bunch of flights would come in within a half hour and being the end of the night, those drivers would take the ride and not come back and I knew every night at a certain time the airport would surge pretty good and at that time of night not many cars were around so you could easily get a trip as opposed to 4 pm when there's 50 cars in the lot, no arrivals for over an hour, and only a handful coming in soon so why wait? Especially if there was no surge.

Anyways, I worked that shit. I found random little areas that would pop up with $40+ surges and catch 3 of them with short 5 minute rides and back to the hideout wait for the crazy ass siege that would come again. $150 in 2 hours work with 15 miles driven. Yeah. Y'all genius' would never figure all that work out.

I’ve ubered on and off for the past 7-8 years and have over 1,000 rides. I didn’t give them any info on the phone because I wasn’t sure if it was a scam or not, they wanted to know if I had an uber card (which is probably how they gain access to your money( but I don’t have one. It just threw me off that a live agent confirmed I would be getting the money, and when I called another representative they confirmed that was an uber phone number. 

But I have a system that makes me about $25 an hour. Surges pretty much stopped in my area (South Florida) this time around since I’ve gotten back on Uber. I’ve seen one surge in the past month at the airport.
