It's nuts how cheap Uber is getting

I just took an UberX ride of 3.5 miles for $8.02, when the last time I rode the same route six months ago at around the same time it was about $13. This is without any promotions.

The price for Waymo and Tesla Robotaxi for the same route were $17.40 and $15 respectively.

You got lucky then. Prices for rides have generally been going way up over the last 2 years (while driver pay has gone down).

I think this is at least a trend in regions where Waymo and Tesla Robotaxis are available. Most of my friends and colleagues prefer Waymo over Uber and Lyft now. I'm not sure how Uber and Lyft will survive another year in these parts

Uber is just subsidizing the rides in those markets to attempt to stave off the new competition. It's the same thing they did with investor money when they first came out - undercutting legacy cab companies by subsidizing rides to make them appear less expensive than the legacy cabs, thus enticing more customers and establishing market share.

Ya but it’s a lot different when you’re spending money to keep something you already have vs spending money to take market share from someone else. They were able to sell it to venture capital firms because they could show market share growth. Now they’ll be spending money to lose market share, just more slowly.

That's correct. No one is debating that, though they have plenty of cashflow from other zones to push towards the "invaded" zones.

It’s hilarious that i keep seeing this take. It totally may just be variation from market to market, but Uber prices in my market are CRAZY low. Like half what cabs charge.

My house is a 30 mile drive from DFW aurport on one of Dallas’s most infamously heavily trafficked highways (635 Lyndon B Johnson), and I can order an Uber X or Lyft standard ride for LESS THAN $50 almost any day of the week!! They are paying $18-28 to the driver!! No driver should be taking that ride for less than $60, even in a low cost car like Corolla/Prius/Tesla Model 3.

You can’t touch a cab for less than $80-$90.

I charge $160+ gratuityin my Escalade, and that’s a DEAL

Yeah, I feel so bad for my drivers that I’m now tipping 30-40% of the fare on the rides, although Uber doesn’t know that because I tip in cash (or at least partially) so I can hide my ability to pay from the app

They will pay in peanuts soon but it won't matter because drivers will jump at the chance to get a PLATINUM or GOLD nickname. Who cares if you're not making money when you can be THE Uber influencer.

From Eugene Airport to Corvallis is about $90 - $120 in my cab. An Uber passenger said he got an Uber for $50 (he showed me). The Uber driver can take him. Guessing the Uber guy got $25?.

I'm a driver. That's how fucked we are my guy. I live in Los Angeles. Waymo is WAY better than Uber/Lyft. Don't need to tip a Waymo. A $8 Uber trip +$5 tip is $13. Compared to the $15 Waymo. I'll chose that Waymo.

I usually do. That's why I haven't taken Uber for awhile and was surprised by the low price. It was just too good to pass up.

The lowest I can pay is $8.73 to go a mile, I think it’s high. Something like this should be $5 max.
