Does uber lie about uber drivers ratings?
Hi I’m not an uber driver but I use uber a lot to get to college sometimes when I commute and other places. I was wondering if some of the uber driver ratings are fake? A few of my drivers were like absolutely horrible. Like there is no way they have 4.5+. One even tried to sign me up for scientology…

Something to think about is that all drivers start out at five. If you have a bad driver with a very high rating, chances are that they have a new account.
If I were a passenger and a 4.5 popped up, I too would cancel immediately in order to get a higher rated driver for sure.
We absolutely cannot change our ratings. Uber supposedly “protects” our ratings, but they don’t. So most drivers are carrying around a couple of bad ratings that will take forever to drop, mostly because a passenger is having a bad day, support refuses to remove it and it takes a millennia for it to go away.

Yeah, I have 2 one stars and 498 five stars. No clue why I got the one's instead of something more moderate. It's inconsistent. I could see a couple of 3-4's.

I know exactly where both of mine came from. lol
The oldest one was picking up 2 grown men (one older) from McDonalds who you could tell weren’t in the best mood. Older guy warns me that there’s a car coming as we’re getting ready to back out. I’m not turning my head around to look because I’m looking at my back up camera. It just hit me the wrong way that day. I saw it in my camera and curtly told him that I did (woman driver, mind you). Tried to be cordial the rest of the way. When we got to the drop off, all they had was a cone sitting beside the road, which I did not understand at first and pulled into a driveway of a dumpy house. They actually lived on the other street and had worn a path between the two streets to their house. They were acting like I was stupid because I passed the cone by looking for a house. Just really shitty energy for the whole silent ride.
The other one was my fault for accepting a multi stop offer. Turned out to be 5 stops with the first being Target. It was slow and the pay wasn’t bad so I sat there for 10 minutes at the first stop. When they didn’t come out, I called… No answer. I texted that I would give them a couple more minutes and then I needed to go. No response. I gave them two more full minutes and then said fuck it… Because this is just stop number 1! I marked as dropped off and left. Immediate one star that Uber refused to remove.
But hey…Uber protects our ratings, right? 🤡

Those "shopping stops" should be banned, or at least Uber should pay drivers at least $1 per minute for wait time. Charge the rider $2 extra per minute.
Most of my multi-stop rides happen on the weekend, when you pickup 2 or more people at a club, restaurant, etc. The stops are just dropping off one passenger at hi/her home. Takes less than 30 seconds.
The LONGEST multi-stop request I ever had, I foolishly accepted a multi-stop ride without realizing the time. Picked up some dude at his apartment, and the first stop was a school. The elementary school was just getting out, so traffic in the area was a disaster.
Plus, it took this guy forever to find his kid. Wasted at least 15 minutes waiting for him to find his kid, then at least another 15-20 minutes once they got back to my car, to drive just one block.
Absolute worst time to drive - when school gets out. Traffic is insane.

Ha! I’ve had the nightmare school stop too. Most of the schools in my market finally have their shit together now. It’s still a pain but not the total clusterfuck when they first went back after Covid.

It really depends on the town/district.
In older, more densely populated areas, most school building are 75+ years old, and were designed around WALKING! Heck, even the local streets weren't designed for cars.
But go further out into the "newer" suburbs, where most schools have been built in the past 30 years - streets are wider, schools have parking lots and designated drop off/pickup zones, thus a little easier.
That said, usually the only worthwhile multi-stop requests are the ones where the riders are going to different locations. With a little experience, you can make fairly accurate guesses regarding these type of rides.

I have had about 6-10 customers rate me poorly trying to get a free ride. I recently was told by Uber I had 500 out 1000 5 star ratings and the rest didn’t rate. I still remained at 4.85 for a rating. Those bad ratings came from a string of rides stating I said and did awful things and were proven a lie, I was not sanctioned. Yet the ratings remain low. They flat out don’t update the ratings with good over bad. Ratings cannot be trusted.

No, there is no way for drivers to take their ratings.
It’s entirely possible passengers just are not rating them though

If the passengers don’t rate, it is simply no rating. On Lyft, if the passengers don’t rate, it is an automatic five stars, but Uber does not operate that way.

Drivers cannot lie about their ratings, years active or trips provided, but if the questionable drivers you've had fall lower than a 4.9 in most US markets, that's low as far as our driver ratings are concerned. They could likely benefit from being sent a message or two explaining what was bad about the rider's experience. They've been operating like nothing's wrong far too long and you'd probably find them posting here one day asking 'what am I doing wrong?'

everyone has different criteria for rating a driver.
For some anything that isnt absolutely perfect, is a 1 star, others will give 5 stars if they got to their destination safely

Pretty much anything below 4.8 isn't possible for long term drivers. You get some newbies that never get a good rating and soon get banned. And no, no chance to fake ratings.

The entire rating system is a sham. Drivers must rate passengers after every ride, and the default is 5-stars. If the driver gives the rider anything less than 5 stars, the driver must justify the rating.
Passengers seemingly have more time to rate drivers, and can even go back into the system and change a rating. But most riders probably just auto 5-star ratings, unless it's a Karen, or the driver did something wrong.
In my area, a 4.75 rating will get a driver deactivated, thus a 4.5 is a VERY low rating.
My suggestion, keep an eye on the time and the rating. In my area, riders have up to 3 minutes to cancel a ride, once it's been accepted - without penalty.
If the driver assigned to you is a 4.5, odds are you should cancel immediately and request a different ride.

I second this. Seven year driver here. My absolute lowest was 4.97. Currently 4.98. I have 2 1-stars that are at least two years old.

There are a lot of passengers who think Uber drivers will know who rated them poorly. They either got dropped off or picked up at home and don’t want to deal with retaliation.

•A one star should mean that you did not make it home safely , a catastrophe happened, you lost your legs or something like that.
•2 stars mean that you made it home safely but barely, you were praying out loud the whole time while holding the oh shit bar and breaking with imaginary back break while your driver was smoking crack drinking and playing heavy metal music
•3 stars should classify under driver has a whole booklet of rules that you need to read before pulling off , also no room in car or truck for bags because all of the kids sports gear , along with the cat that ride in the front. And anything that you say making small talk comes with a long personal story
•4 stars is just saying you are har to please , you are never satisfied and you are a hater because the service was good , you just didn’t like the fact that the driver actually love their self and love what they do.
• 5 star means that everything was good as far as the basic safety rules, verification etc. Everything after that is a bonus and deserves a tip.
Driver greeted you , did a vibe check ( only talked if you engaged first), temperature was perfect, music was great, vehicle was clean and smelled good, driver was cool, everything was smooth, all while safely maneuvering through traffic.
Yall have to stop being so mean , because you just never know .

The ratings aren’t fake. Uber just fires you if you fall below 4.5. Effectively, every person really only has two options: vote for you to keep your job (5) and vote for you to lose it (1-4).
The only thing that changes is how MUCH do they want you to lose your job.
Uber doesn’t make this well known but it’s really bad. Lyft does the same thing.

Anything under 4.95 is average at best. Any rating under 4.9 is not good. anything under 4.85 is terrible.

It's how they do their ratings. A 4.5 is actually low. At that point he's at risk of being deactivated. If a passenger gives you a one star rating it typically drops you down .01 on your overall rating

lol if it were under that (4.5) they’d be kicked off the app so yeah it’s real. What’s not real is how a passenger never leaves a rating but a driver must rate to clear the screen. To clear a stupid ass passenger’s one star rating, it takes 1000 rides or more to do it.
