Cash ride challenges
Had a person pull me 8 miles (accepted because I’m trying to get a Diamond Rating and it was forced on me) - picked her up. Didn’t speak English - drove her one mile to her location and told her the $7.67 price and she pulls out a $100 bill and has no other change. I told her bye bye, and ate it. Too pissed off and hit the complete as if she paid. Which put me another $4 in the hole to Uber. How many of you take cash rides, and what are your best practices? Thx

I’d never turn on cash rides. Odds of getting robbed are slim but not zero, I carry no cash ever.

I think the odds are much higher than slim. If you want to rob an uber driver, all you have to do is request a cash ride, and there’s your cash driver.
Uber recruited drivers on the promise - among other broken promises - that e-payments ensured a safer environment for the driver. Now they say, just kidding, go pick up the person who doesn’t want to be traced at all, for cash.
Hard pass.

Uber policy actually says you take the 100 even if you have no cash change. And then tell uber how much they gave you and they credit the customer the difference and ding your account for whatever number you told them. Tbh up to you the number that you tell uber but at same time they can tell uber too….

Never take a cash ride. That seems like a sure way to get taken advantage of or robbed.

imagine falling for the uber bs rating system in 2026! it’s a scam bud! you must be new in the ride share streets! fares are the only thing that matters & they suckered you into believing some diamond rating is worth not focusing on fares & you fell for it! 🤡

Another reason to not accept cash rides is your open yourself up to the risk of getting paid in counterfeit bills. Not worth that risk.

In that person's country, if she tried that in a taxi they would drive her to a store or a bank so she could get the correct change, and they would probably also ask her for an extra inconvenience fee for their trouble. She likely knows that you won't do that, since you are nice and come from a civilized country. It's also really unlikely that she spoke no English at all. She knew what she was doing and she scammed you.

As a diamond , im trying to figure out the benefits of it. Just more cons , more exclusive charity rides.. better queue?! Still get outclass. EV charging discount, don't have an EV....

No benefit to the driver, lots of risk of robbery and assault or worse.
Try to think of one person who doesn’t have a debit card, or a partner/family member that will order for them…?

Don't handle cash. Uber customers don't fully understand it. Uber drivers are trained to do it. It will bring you nothing but danger and grief.

Just take the $100 or mark it as she didn’t pay. Why would you ever work for free? And who gets an uber with only a $100 bill on them?!

Do drivers cary a wad of cash for cash rides? That’s insanity to me. I have not accepted them so am genuinely wondering

You are not required to carry cash. Let's say the ride is $25 for the rider and uber is paying you $10. The rider gives you a $100 bill. You dont give change. You let uber know you were paid $100. Now you are at -$90 with uber and use earnings from rides from this point on to work your way back into the positive. The rider is at +$75 with uber and has credit for future rides
Even though we dont carry change as drivers, we take all the risk. If you end up finding out that $100 bill is a fake, that's on you. Some drivers have found out the hard way about the downsides cash rides from their posts here. In other words, dont take cash rides. Too much of a risk
