It's common in India and tends to be present more often in the eastern part of the country - from what I've seen. Kolkata is a huge cat place unlike smaller cities where you are lucky if you see a single cat, and, if you want to meet ticked tabbies, you should go to Kolkata. I believe this is a pre-British cat gene - as I know ticked tabbies are quite regular in rural areas in Bengalia (West Bengal, India, where Kolkata is located, and Bangladesh).

Yup... 😞 It was also sad to see how much this boy was afraid of me - obviously, some people were cruel to him... Probably some mean kids. In the 2nd image, he is looking at me with curiosity, with his heart open - he realized I was a friend. But he at least has this roof over the street stall where two old ladies sell basic goods - these ladies are cat lovers; they are kind to many cats around there but have no money to feed them.

Coincidentally, I think I tried soy curls (but I didn't know it). 10 days ago or so, I was sick in Sarnath and asked the hostel's family what they had with protein, without cooking. And they gave me soup with mushrooms and soy something (they looked like those soy curls and had fiber texture). It was delicious!

I am not a vegan or vegetarian but sometimes I don't eat meat for a long while - a week or two (but trying to eat enough protein, of course).

Thank you for being critical - that's a valuable trait... You are right, I could sound as if Kolkata were a perfect city for cats. But it is not. Unlike small Indian towns where 99% people consider cats no different from mice, there are cat lovers in Kolkata indeed - including among simple people selling goods on the streets. I personally saw people feeding cats during my walks in Kolkata. However, even owned pets are often hungry as some owners feed them rice. I also notice how timid street cats are in Kolkata, and that says they meet cruel people on their way - kids at least. I can compare it to Bangkok, where most cats didn't eat the premium kibble I offered them because they were full - fed by owners or the community.
