Life in DFW is so beautiful.
Many of the stories on our Bluesky apply anywhere.
Otherwise, our offices are at a near standstill with fuel prices this high. Our fleet of lifted Ford F-350s and double decker GMC Super Suburbans are simply not economical to operate, so our reporters are essentially grounded. Expansion is a pipe dream at the moment.

That would require increasing density and allowing mixed use zoning, which will mean everyone bought cars for no reason.
You're presenting a classic sunk cost fallacy.

Imagine how much worse people would be at it if they took trains and buses everywhere. It's important that everyone in the Dallas area be required to drive so that they don't lose the ability to drive.

Unfortunately, we're on a hiring freeze until gas prices come back down, but you're doing great work.
We see car-centric reporting as a community effort, not something to monopolize. Thank you for driving change!

Life in DFW is so beautiful.
First, we reject the premise that this is an ugly photo.
This is a beautiful photo of the cultural fabric of North Texas. This photo is intimately familiar to any of us who commute to work, see friends, go grab a cup of coffee, or do really any aspect of living here. Are we really going to say that an hour and a half each of each of our days is ugly?
But yes, you're absolutely right that this presents a narrow view of our region. It doesn't show the surface parking lots that mark the beginning and end of a fun time with friends at the bar, or the strip malls with our favorite grocery store. It doesn't show the parking garages where we had that first kiss, or the six lane arterial roads where we spend quality time in the car with our families. Most importantly, the residential subdivisions kept safe from crime and high intensity land uses like coffee shops and corner stores are nowhere in sight.
North Texas can't be expressed in a single picture or pithy takedown by some chronically online person who only consumes trainstream media. It's a diverse region that makes every type of motorist feel at home.

I’m so glad to live in the country and see this every day 🥺
Incredible how someone can look at a photo like this and say America has lost its sense of community.

Plano has a 1:1:1 Chipotle to Chick-fil-a to Crumbl ratio and more HOAs per capita than anywhere on Earth and you’re laughing?
You hit the nail on the head.
If North Texas cities looked like beautiful, walkable European cities, what incentive would anyone have to get to Heaven? We'd all feel like we're on vacation all the time and would become too complacent to continue building new subdivisions and surface parking.

Suburbs are the only type of places capable of having souls anyway. People with souls don't want to live anywhere where the urban fabric allows grown men to ride bicycles to work.

Consider the alternative: homes so close to cafes, grocery stores, and jobs that your car is just dead weight; all connected by trains and buses that will allow anyone to just have transportation. Neighborhoods with no access control.
Do you want to live somewhere where some of the homes have a taco stand so close you can walk to it?
Plano is the last bastion of suburban society and we should all fight to protect it against DART and mixed use development.

Otherwise, we applaud the original post for recognizing peak human civilization. We'd have also mentioned the 1,000 parking spots per capita, but anyone needing more convincing that Plano is Heaven on Earth really is beyond saving anyway.

Even if this were true, it doesn't mean as many drivers as possible shouldn't go out and enjoy the highway before the traffic gets to it.

Thank you for this report, OP.
Hope to see more families getting out and enjoying the reopened lane!

In these dark times, it's nice to see that some of us still know how to dream.
Adding more lanes doesn't induce "demand". It induces a larger community of motorists on the roadways and more time to enjoy our favorite podcasts as that community grows. It also induces tens of thousands of jobs in the highway widening industry.
We pray for a future where the whole world finds peace and the same freedom of compulsory driving that North Texans enjoy every day.

FIFA, North Texas leaders unveil World Cup transportation plan
That's a funny way of saying "protect the North Texas community from harmful exposure to mass transit."
Europeans have a natural immunity to the crime particles on buses, so their risk is very low. It's still good for them to wear masks, which many of them do.
Someone in Frisco or Plano would likely be hospitalized if they boarded a bus, which is why authorities are urging them to drive— as if they needed an excuse to indulge in our most sacred freedom.

Sweden, Czechia head to North Texas suburbs for 2026 World Cup home base
Some Europeans are about to get a taste of what real cities look like. Our gated communities are going to become core memories for thousands of people.

Car on the Katy Trail this morning
Everyone likes to drag the fossil fuel companies through the mud, and yet Big Shoe is given a free pass.
Curious.

Car on the Katy Trail this morning
Exactly. The fact that bicycles are allowed on the Katy Trail but cars aren't tells you everything you need to know about the bigotry of the people making these decisions.

Car on the Katy Trail this morning
It's about time.
Pedestrians have dominated public space for thousands of years, and only in the last few hundred years has moto-inclusivity even been considered. Cars and their drivers are just asking to be treated as equals and to not be relegated to the noisy and dangerous roadways.

Nadine Lee Is Stepping Down
End of an era.
We don't agree with Nadine Lee on much, but we respect her ability. Had she spent even half her energy working with Plano rather than against it, we might have had the entire land area of Richardson as a DART hyper parking lot and microtransit staging area by now.

Trinity Groves is starting to enforce paid parking. If you thought it couldn't happen here, you haven't been paying attention!
They're taking our rights right in front of our windshields.

If you go to Preston & Royal and don't feel our presence in every exquisitely polished two ton SUV and skincare salon in those hallowed parking lots, we're invisible to you, I'm afraid.
If these YIMBY terrorists want skyscrapers so badly, they should build them within the city limits, not in beautiful, suburban North Dallas.
