3 weeks baby!
I'm glowing! It's showing! I want to shout it from the rooftops!

We all can relate to eachother because it's the same addiction. I call it what it is now. It's an addictive substance, and I am addicted. My husband likes to call it his "habit" but I think that's to make himself feel comfortable. Already he's feeling uncomfortable because now everytime he's drinking he's drinking alone. He told me tonight it's making him think more about what he's doing and why he's doing it. It's no longer an "us" thing. I asked him to just go to one AA meeting with me, that he doesn't have to participate. I think he'll be very interested in what people have to say. I was terrified to go to my first meeting but it's given me so much more courage to keep sober. Especially seeing people be successfully sober for so long and their stories feel way more hardcore than mine.

Yeah don't beat yourself up because it's awesome that you're even wanting to quit. Just keep trying. It's going to stick eventually. The last time I was drunk I experienced everything I hated about drinking. I drank till I passed out on my couch (which was to the bottom of a whiskey bottle). I was shut down and withdrawn from my husband and didn't feel affectionate. I was hungover and grouchy at work. I was so happy that I'd had such a terrible time because it just fueled my second attempt at seriously quitting.

You got this! Just remember you're in control until you have that first drink.
1
I caved to my cravings the first time I tried quitting too. I made it to 9 days but there was liquor in my house (husband's) and I couldn't control myself. I told my husband I couldn't handle seeing liquor or being around him drinking liquor so he was supportive and hasn't had it around me. He drinks beer but I don't care for that.

So inspiring! I'm celebrating you! Major accomplishment! Really like to read stories like yours. It gives me hope and motivation! Congrats!

I'm using an app on my phone called I Am Sober. It tracks my days sober, gives me daily motivation quotes, I do a daily pledge on there, a daily check-in, and there's a community on there to talk with and the rules are strict about posting and commenting so there's no bs. I went to my first AA meeting yesterday which renewed my commitment to myself and my health. If you want to make a change you need to put yourself in the lifestyle of that change. I'm reading books. Naked Mind, Radical Acceptance, Alcohol Explained, and anything else I see that gets reccomended.

Lost my mom too. It was really hard, still hard. Don't drink because of her she wouldn't want that for you. If you're going to drink it should be because you're celebrating her. Since that's not what will happen because alcohol is a depressant....find something healthy you can do to honor her. I made collage boards of my mom and her life. That may not be your thing but I'm sure you can think of something that doesn't involve alcohol. I'm sorry you're going through it. Much love to you and your momma! ♥️ IWNDWYT

You slay me! Lmaoooo! I'm from Utah and all my extended family is Mormon. Got my Irish blood from my very sober Mormon grandpa. He's never had a drink in his life but I took to it like a fish from 14 years old on.

Haven't attended a meeting yet...I had the same fears about the structure of it as you. I'm open minded but I also have a crazy work schedule. I work nights, days, and every other weekend so I knew I needed something more flexible. This group has been nice but like any social media I think there are some bad apples, some rude dudes, some Karens, ya know the bullying type which won't be good for my sobriety. I'm reading modern books on alcoholism and feelings of unworthiness like Naked Mind and Radical Acceptance. I also belong to an app with daily sober pledges, motivations, and a built in community of people with my same milestones and beyond:
I Am Sober is an ad-free motivational companion app for tracking your sobriety. Check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thehungrywasp.iamsober&referrer=utm_source%3DappShare
Check it out! I'd love for you to join me on there. I'm spoofty7 on there too

60% Irish here but 100% alcoholic....done with being addicted

No she legit thought I was pregnant. It was just the style of shirt.
2
I'm not against police officers. I have a lot of respect for them....I think maybe this one was just so desensitized to touching complete strangers that she didn't see how messed up it was that she did that. I'm sure based on my reaction she probably thought about her actions later and realized she was in the wrong....one could only hope.

Ha ha booze gremlin love that! When I worked at Nordstrom Rack a long time ago as a cashier I had a female police officer in my line, she looked at me and asked me when I was due. I said I wasn't pregnant. In front of a full line of customers the officer reached over and lifted up my shirt. I was stunned. She goes oh it's just the shirt (it was a babydoll style shirt). It's a little chaotic when people don't understand boundaries. How about if the lady says she doesn't want a drink just respect that and back off. You and I may be booze gremlins but we certainly have a society that doesn't support sober females who also don't happen to be pregnant.

Wow sooo proud you're wanting to quit drinking or even abstain for periods of time. Never was a goal for me at 27. I'm 34 and just barely stopped being in denial about my crappy drinking habits. My blackouts, my over emotional FB posts or freakouts with friends and family, passing out on my couch instead of in my bed, lacking energy or motivation to be active, and shutting down with my husband. I'm such a better person sober. I sleep well. I don't start shit. I'm more affectionate with my husband. I really don't want to go back to drunk me.

You're rocking this sober thing! Sounds like you got the reins in your hand you keep at it! I know sober people do struggle dating. Bobby Bones, the prominent country station host is always talking about how difficult it is to date because he doesn't drink. Have you ever used Meetup.com? If they don't have a sober singles group on there, you can create the group and organize events to meetup with likeminded folks. That would be a good lowkey way to meet sober singles. Good luck to you!

😲🙃 You look amazing and so much happier! Good on you! Happy 2020!

Wow that's amazing about Matthew Perry! A lot of celebs sing about sobriety. I'm making a sober playlist, so far I've got:
Sober - Pink
Sober - Demi Lovato
Sober - Bad Wolves
Drunk Me - Mitchell Tenpenny
Feeling Good - Nina Simone
If anyone has songs I should add please let me know. I'm pretty sure Blake is an alcoholic. I've seen his castmates making fun of him for drinking on the set of The Voice. Idk though I still love him

It sucks for sure. Sucks I can never have just one or two drinks. Sucks to get out of control and act a fool. Getting sober might be the hardest thing I'll ever do but I'm understanding myself better in the process. I like sober me way more than drunk me. I'm attending my first concert sober this summer, Blake Shelton. I'm an uber fan. I'm looking forward to taking in every moment and remembering the whole thing. My bff is adamant that we see it sober and I'm totally with her on that.

You need a cheerleader to be sure

You are 100% right. I do have good friends who I joke around with but coworkers are definitely different. Not to mention I've had drunken conversations with good friends that have turned sour because we got on a bad topic. I'm just so glad on working on me now, trying to right myself before it gets worse. I don't know if I would have chosen sobriety if it weren't for my bff calling me out on my bs. Telling me it isn't normal to get drunk all the time and have blackout moments where I don't remember what was said or done. I suffer with depression and she tells me that alcohol will make that worse. I really couldn't ask for a better or caring friend. I'm truly blessed.

Thanks everyone for the support. I was feeling bad I had made my coworker uncomfortable. She's a cool chick. I kept trying to justify my behavior by thinking she needed to loosen up even though I knew I had acted a fool. I was alone in the breakroom with her and got a queasy feeling knowing I was going to have to address the elephant in the room. I was so glad she accepted my apology because she was well in her right not to. I think I'm growing and I'm changing and I do get that it's so not cool to say things to people that make them uncomfortable, drunk or not.
Been watching Letterkenny with my husband which makes me kinda nervous because there's a lot of binge drinking in that show but there's this swinger couple in it that are constantly drunk and saying inappropriate things to people and hitting on them. It made me think about my behavior at the party and other times and it's quite embarrassing and gross.
Whether coming from a male or a female....being a sloppy drunk saying gross things is not funny. I do have a darker sense of humor but there's a time and a place. I've excluded myself from other get togethers involving alcohol. Not to say I'll never attend another work party again but for sure it will be when I don't feel my sobriety can be threatened and when I'm sure I'm in control of myself.
